So the spring is just being held with a compression fit between a "silver" screw and the brass post? How is the post being held in place on the atty side of the top cap....I know too many questions ...

I'm guessing when the #19 is screwed together the spring is compressed thus pushing the pin against the atty?
No fear of over tightening anything, should help with the longevity of the 510 thread, sort of like a spring loaded center pin :)

What's up guys? I'm new to ECF but I've been watching this thread since it started and I read through most of the sigelei thread! Anyway, I ordered a 19 last Thursday. I received it yesterday and I really like it! Ever since I began researching it though, I thought to myself "if it comes with two magnets why not just make a magnetic switch yourself?" Why has nobody done this? Alot of people in the beginning ordered it thinking it had a magnetic switch, not one person has posted a "how to" on making it yourself...easy! Take the magnet out of the top cap, get a plastic or delrin washer(just a little tiny bit thinner than the magnet), drill a hole in the washer just barely big enough so you can press fit the magnet in it...with the magnet in the switch still all you have to do is take your washer with the magnet in it place it on the neg of the battery so that the bottom of the battery is repelled by the switch. No more need for the spring I the switch and you have yourself what sigelei advertised in the first place, A MECH MOD WITH A MAGNETIC SWITCH! Haha

N9neen9N Welcome to the club (and ECF). :) I think I know where you are going with this. Have you done this mod? Wouldn't this add to the battery tube length and vdrop? Ya know magnet to magnet? Post pics and watch your "likes" count skyrocket. Man... I am all questions tonight.

Thanks for the welcome! So if you take the magnet out of the cup on the top cap and sand the cup down so the cup is more of a plate, haha, then the space lost by removing the magnet from the top would be added on the bottom...don't know about voltage drop...but there would no longer b any need for that monstrous spring

Actually the spring is part of the conductive circuit. The battery comes into contact with the cup, the cup is connected to the button, but the circuit isn't complete until it reaches the outside of the mod itself. This is why some people were having misfires unless they pushed the button sideways a bit so it contacted the switch housing. Widening that spring so it is always in contact with the housing, not just the button and the bottom of that delrin cup, helps complete the circuit when the button is pushed. ;)

A couple of folks early on had the idea of using ring magnets, one just above the button, in contact with it, and another below the brass cup that contacts the battery... If the two repelled each other well enough they could substitute for the spring in that way but you are back to square one on completing the circuit. I'm sure there is a way to make something with magnets in it work. I just don't think anyone has quite solved it yet.

Have you ever seen a macaveli hybrid...that's what I got the idea from, it's the same principal as what I'm saying here. I'm gonna make this work tomorrow at work where I have tools at my disposal haha ill let you know how it turns out
Remember what Gdeal posted about pics, please :D

Oh yeah, of course! All the pics everyone else have posted were all helpful to me, I'd have to return the favor if it actually works!

Macaveli Review 18350 Hybrid from Macavelihybrid.com - YouTube

At about the 5:30 mark of this video he talks about the switch but it shouldn't be much different and if for some reason the circuit isn't complete, I'm sure ill be able to figure something out to get it there!

I just got my 19 from exhale vapors I also got the nzonic clone top cap for the #8,#13,#19 too. Interesting that the original top cap now has spring attached to it instead of the magnet I will attach a pic if I can get a good one of it. The nzonic style top cap has the original magnet set up on it go figure. Has anyone given a thought to actually making the switch into a true magnetic one?

It actually uses the old brass screw and they tapped a new hole so the silver screw goes into, and the brass screw screws into a delrin similar to the old one except its all shaved down flat....hopefully that was not confusing

might be time to order the Nzonic clone head. So you dont need to use the spring with the nzonic head ?

I forgot to add I got my #19 on a pre order deal I saw on Vapor Joes it took awhile to get due to the Chinese were just coming off holiday and I guess Segelei was trying to address the issues with their first run? Well they still need to.work on it. I believe with the right tweaks this can be a great mechanical mod. On the upside my first mechanical a Smok Tek telescope the switch broke on me of course, and I didn't even drop it. The switch from the #19 fits on it and doesn't seem to have the misfire issue although I think that needs further testing. I don't mind doing things to make these units work cause I love to tinker and build. Still even tho these are not top of line or rather expensively made I don't feel its to much to ask that they work decently right out of the box. On the other hand the definition of the word mod does mean just that modification and we all like different set ups after all. I can't wait to see what they come up with next.

I'm not sure about the not using the spring I'm going to mess around with it and see what is what cause really first they cover a good brass contact with a magnet now they're doing it with a spring. the top cap from my #8 fits on the #19 as well so I'm going to experiment a bit and see what happens. I'll post my results. I wouldn't think that the spring is needed maybe even with a little modification it might be used to replace the crappy switch spring.

I think the only thing that needs modding is the firing mechanism i got mine vaping like a choo choo train

Haha I was wrong again, make more sence if the pin was floating, sigelei come up with some strange ones, suppose it helps eliminate battery rattle in 18350 mode, which was the job of the original magnet :)

Haha...but your idea was better.

Here the mod I would do on the new 19b if I had it....

Basically you are reversing the brass screw...Disassemble: make the top head of the brass smaller to fit the inside of the 510 connector, sand down threads. tap the bottom of the brass for the silver screw, re-insert and attached spring and tighten silver screw. Now it floats and has restrictions on both sides.
