ok so i really liked the 18350 mode of the zmax as it was small and i didnt want to over tighten the zmax on an 18490 because it might dislodge the chip inside i made a simple mod using a thin piece of copper bent it a little and glued it on the zmax's bottom now i can use an 18500 battery with the zmax fully tightend and another plus is i can use 2 18350 which really gives good flavor at 6v.

I just got my Zmax V3 today which is my first mod ever. I've read through this thread documenting the various build issues and fixes and I'm wondering: I haven't even tried this thing yet (batts are charging) but the screen is really scratched. Should I return it? For $70 I feel this thing should be fairly pristine out of the box, but it also seems like there's a feeling here that mods aren't perfect and require some "putting up with". Any input from anyone on this?

Brand new out of the box and scratched....I'd return it.

Sa Da Tay: I agree with Harplayr. You paid for a new Sigelei and you should get one. Demand an exchange. Mine arrived in pristine condition, including the display screen.

Given the number of posts in this thread about a brand new APV I'd say the consensus of opinion on the Sigelei Zmax V3 Telescopic is very good. Many of the problems listed here result from user error. Then there is the nature of public forums in general: people who are completely happy with an APV are not as motivated to post as people with any sort of problem. Many who posted regarding issues with this Sigelei never posted a follow-up so we won't how the issue was resolved.

I'm still happily vaping away with my Sigelei Zmax Telescopic.

Thanks- I just sent them an email. I got it through Sun Vapers whom I've never ordered from before, hope they have decent customer service and will swap it without much fuss.
Sun Vapers is usually pretty good about things. It's a one man shop, but he's trying hard so I expect he'll swap it out for you.

Let us know how it goes.

Well, my Zmax has been run through the ringer for a month and 2 days, now. It has handled all of my delivery devices (cartotanks, RBAs, and RDAs) in VV/VW modes and the different battery configurations (AW IMR 350, 490, and 650) without any issues.

Aside from having had to clean out the threads once, which was my fault, in order to maintain continuity, it has performed in excellent fashion. Personally, beyond the execution of build, the Zmax performs as both of my ProVari Minis do. It has been debated, but I cannot distinguish any difference in flavor performance between the said.

This is an excellent choice for anyone, whom wishes to upgrade to a budget friendly variable type device.

AW's are a safe bet and plenty dealers such as clouds of vapor etc are stocking em. I personally use AW and efest batteries, also look for high drain batteries not the protected ones.

AW IMR 18350/490/650 & EFest Brand Batteries ... Highly recommended choice

I picked some up recently at ... RTDVapor

Ok - I'm an idiot. Well, just lazy.

I just ordered one of these. Now I need batteries. Which 18650? I'm not sure what mAh this thing can handle. Button top I assume.

Will these work Amazon.com: Orbtronic Two 18650 Protected 2900mAh Li-ion Rechargeable Batteries Button Top with PCB - NEW Dual Protection Version Panasonic 2900mAh cell inside: Electronics

Any suggestions? Best places to buy? They only had unprotected bats where I ordered my mod.

Button tops are not necessary. I use flat tops in all three configurations I use (18650/18500/18350.) I haven't tried stacking 18350's yet. Personally, I find the 18500 configuration with the deep cap and the spring mod in post #161 to be the best profile for this device.

AW & Efest are the consensus best batts, but for the money, I've had great luck with the EH IMR bats from Madvapes. Coupon "memorial" for 15% off through Tuesday (28th).

It gets just a little complicated because we have seen the Sigelei Zmax V3 Telescopic flat top shipped in two configurations since this post was started.

In the first configuration the unit was shipped with one end cap (battery cap). This was the 15mm cap (see Post #34). Beginning on April 25 this Sigelei was shipped with two battery caps, a 15mm cap and the second cap measuring 10mm (see Post #37).

This where button top or flat battery top may make a difference. Keep in mind that button top batteries measure a mm or two longer than flat tops. The only difference between flat tops and button tops is the height of the positive terminal. When using a single flat top 18350 battery with the 15mm battery cap you may have to stretch the battery spring a mm or two to get good battery contact. This is not the case with the 10mm battery cap.

If you use a battery longer than 18350 like the AW 18490/18500, the Efest 18500, or the AW or Efest 18650 then you are better off ordering a flat top battery. Either button top or flat top will work fine but the flat top battery is shorter in length and will result in a shorter size for the Sigelei Vmax Telescopic (which most everyone wants).

AW or Efest? If you want to do a lot of vaping with the Sigelei Vmax Telescopic at or near the 6V limit, then buy the AW battery. If you vape at less than five volts then the Efest will be just fine for you and will cost less. Also consider that flat tops cost less than button tops.

With all battery configurations larger than a single flat top 18350 you don't need to worry. The telescopic battery tube of the Sigelei will accommodate any battery: button tops or flat tops up to 18650 button top.

and I am now a "proud" owner of both revisions. I am still annoyed by the screen misalignment but it's minor
