I should be looking at FT a little more often. There is a new modification to the flat top top cap that I haven't seen before. Done properly this could help eliminate the unsightly gaps between the top cap and some atomizers.

New top cap: FastTech Forums

I had to slot my flat top...I used a carbide burr on a pneumatic air pencil. That new top looks good, but the ever-so-slight taper on the old flat top matches my carto tanks..:)

I *really really* like those new top caps, but there doesn't seem to be a way to make sure you get that kind rather than the usual one with the very slight bevel. Maybe they just got tired of all the moaning and whining about the flat-top not being *really* flat...?

But that new top cap, if it's the new standard, definitely shortens the time before I'll be getting another sigelei.

You can always call or email vendors to ask. I called Desert Vapes two weeks ago to ask if their new V3s had metal buttons. The person who answered was happy to look at one and answer my question. Yes, their V3s have metal buttons.

Yeah, I've seen that, and yes, I think that may be my best option, if I do decide to go for the gunmetal v5. I mean I already have a sigelei, 2 vv3s and an ARO Winder, so I'm not exactly hurting for mods, so that may be a case where the savings actually warrants the long wait and I wouldn't be standing on my head in impatience, given the other mods I already have.

But I'm still hoping for either a gunmetal vv3, or a gun-metal *look* wrap for it, which is why I keep dithering about the gunmetal v5.

Andria

My V5 gunmetal is a couple of months old and the bottom tube that screws in & out is showing some wear. A lot of tiny scrapes and one big scratch, either from keys or maybe carrying two mods in one hand. Also the the gunmetal finish is mirrored, so fingerprints and juice do leave marks. It looks great out of the box, but i find it needs frequent cleaning/buffing compared to my stainless V3. It's not a concern but maybe something to consider as i can imagine my habits won't change and if the finish has started to wear it will likely continue.

The standard brushed stainless steel has it's advantages. No coatings hold up as well as steel. You will notice that hardly any Provari fans post photos of their older coated Provaris.

Left: Two month-old V5 fitted with 1100mAh 18500. Center: 15 month-old first generation V3 fitted for 18350 with tall battery cap. It still works fine. Right: Second generation V3 fitted with short battery cap for 18350. This one is seven months old. All are the standard brushed stainless steel finish. The brushing on the oldest Sigelei is more coarse than the finer finish on the V5.

You will find a couple of scratches and nicks on mine, especially on the bottom of the battery cap. I carry mine in the same front jeans pocket as my wallet. The keys go on the other side.

Yes, I've heard this about this kind of finish, when I was drooling over the gunmetal vamo. It might be a consideration, but I really do want a gunmetal mod, although I still would prefer a gunmetal finish or wrap for a vv3. Because of the wear problem, the wrap might actually be a better option. Maybe I should email jwraps and suggest a gunmetal vv3 wrap. Alternately, I might get a black vv3 and see if there's anything I might be able to do to modify it to a softer gunmetal instead of flat black.

For what it's worth, that metal button, isn't metal. I have one. I though it was metal, until the shiny plating started turning copper color, and now the white plastic is showing around the edges. I was very happy when this one showed up with the "metal" button, but now I kinda prefer my two others with the clear plastic button.

That one got a chuckle. Hey, I'll keep an eye out for any changes in the "metallic-looking" button. Mine hasn't shown any sign of changing color. How long have you been using that Sigelei and who did you buy it from? We saw some people getting them last fall.

Yours is the first report of a "vanishing metal" button on this thread.

I just had a look at the metal button on my V5 and the plastic buttons on the V3s under a 14x jewler's loupe. No sign of wear or discoloring on the metal button. There are thin scratches and pits on the face of this button making me think it's not steel but a softer cast metal. Machining grooves can be seen circling around the sides of the button.

On the plastic buttons I can see a circular pattern on inside of the button face. This looks like a dart board without the radial lines. This must have been left on the inside of the button by the casting die. Otherwise the face is smooth and without pits. The plastic button sides are perfectly smooth with no marks.

Great post yzer !

When their provaris break and have to go in for service I'll still be happily using my v3. :)

It's finish is still like new. 510 is perfect, overall it's just been working great lately. Seems its gotten better with age.
