Battery installation
-Remove battery cap.
-Install battery.
-Adjust telescopic tube so that approximately 1/2 or less of the battery spring is compressed when the battery cap is fully screwed down. This tube length will vary with each battery size larger than a single 18350.
-Screw on the battery cap.

I've never damaged or shifted the internals this way with either the short or tall battery caps. Tube wobble is negligible during normal operation. Don't unscrew the tube when changing batteries of the same size. Take off the battery cap instead.

Settings
Try these settings for starters. This will set you up for VW (power operation). V5 has an additional menu item (#9) for operating the cell phone charger.

-Start the sigelei system. 5 fast clicks and the Sigelei start message will scroll on the screen.
-3 fast clicks to bring up the menu.
-Menu Item #1. OUT ON/OFF. Turn ON if needed. This is the power lock-out feature for safe pocket carry.

Click to go to...
-Menu Item #5: LCD Display: This picks what shows up on the display when you fire the APV. You have the choice of selecting Voltage, Resistance or Battery. Select Voltage. Now the power (watts) will appear on the screen when you fire.
-Menu Item #6: LCD ON/OFF: Select ON
-Menu Item #7: Power Voltage: Select Power. This selects variable power (wattage) instead of variable voltage mode.
-Menu Item #8: RMS & Mean: Select RMS
-Menu Item #2 or #3: (Power UP or Power Down) Select a power (wattage) to start with. Try 6.5 watts.

With these settings the Sigelei operates in variable power (variable wattage) mode with power and voltage calculated by RMS. When the button is pushed to vape the screen lights up and gives the output power in watts. Remaining battery voltage shows up when you hit Menu Item #4.

These VW settings will remain in memory when you change out the battery.

Checklist for most misfiring issues

-Clean all tube and battery cap threads with a soft cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol. Also clean the positive battery contact, the battery spring and the inside of battery caps on an occasional basis.

-Apply a thin coating of Noalox to all of the tube threads. You can find Noalox cheap in the electrical department of any Home Depot. This lubricates the threads leaving a thin film of zinc behind that improves electrical conductivity between stainless steel parts. Zinc is a much better conductor of electricity than stainless steel.

-Clean off any moisture that accumulates on the 510 or Ego connections on a daily basis. Kleenex works great for this.

-Pull the post on your atomizing device if needed.

Doing these steps will eliminate problems many people incorrectly attribute to the switch button.

Sometimes the button just needs good exercise. Give it 100 rapid clicks.

Anyone know what It means when you go to fire the v3 and the screen just goes to saying sigelei for like 10-15 seconds/ locks up and you have to wait and do 5 click restart or pull the battery?
'

I've had that happen a couple times and for me it was related to a lower ohm coil. Anything below 1.4 ohms and my V2 will start acting funny...shutting off, scrolling the Sigelei name, flashing weird characters...
1.5 ohm and above and NO problems

yzer, thx for the post!!!
The display on v5 displays a battery and puff counter so that affects what one may choose to display in option 5, with power being the most obvious as you stated.
here's the instructions for Option 9 on the v5:

9. Mobile Power

To charge the mobile phone

Connect the mobile phone with the ZMAX V5 with a USB charger. Choose ‘Mobile OUT ON’, press for 10 seconds and it will charge the mobile In this period, the LCD will show ‘Warning!’ and ‘No smoking’.

To stop charging, press for another 10 seconds and separate the mobile and ZMAX V5.

Please make sure you have set Mobile Out OFF after charging. Only in this mode can you smoke.

Maybe try Vaportekusa.com

I called them today and the only Flat Top V3 Telescopic they have is the one that doesn't have the removable collar. Although that feature is very nice, I would still consider buying another one for myself if I was sure it was from the newer production line with some of the bugs worked out, such as the better quality fire button (I had an older V3 that the switch went bad on). Do all the newer production V3's with the improved fire button have a removable collar or did they make any without it? Would there even be a way to tell if it's the improved V3? Maybe the updated menu but no removable collar? Maybe some V3 owners out there can shed some light on how this version Sigelei has progressed. I sure wish there was an easier way to tell (V3, V3.1, V3.2, etc. :2cool:).

Any comments appreciated!

Post #735 shows how to spot the removable top cap by appearance. I don't know if the Sigelei switch or board mountings been improved or not. I have an older and a new flat top. I haven't torn either of mine apart to look and probably won't unless they fail. New production V3s have the black button background while my older V3 from April does not. The black background buttons showed up sometime during the summer before the removable top cap appeared.

Thanks for your input Yzer.
The "double seam" above the screen and the black background on the button seem to be the characteristics that I need to pay attention to if I want to be sure to get a newer generation Sigelei V3. Unfortunately, you can never be sure if vendors are using an updated photo to represent their products. Ah well... You pretty much have to call them to be absolutely sure. At least I can be more confident about what features to mention specifically over the phone.

Thanks again!

Now I'm sitting here like a complete nutter, listening to my Zmax for a rattle snake :D

All I hear is the juice buzzing on the resistance of my Ptank2, but I use low Watts, around 4 or 5. Even when I've had a high ohm resistance and up the watts, boff...no Rattlesnakes here.

I use by the by, a drop of VG to ease the screw on the telescope. You do need to clean the dust off, from time to time, and renew it, but it's more "to hand" than noalox, which I'd always thought was for alu joints :/ Live and learn.

Do a lot of you find the V5 with a phone charger added really useful? Out of interest? I think it's a bit gimmicky, at 10€ more. Has any one tried it?

Santa's hangouts.

A quick list of US vendors that still have stock on Sigelei Zmax Telescopic. Customer reports on this thread have been positive for all of these vendors. You may have to email or phone vendors to ask if V3s feature the new removable top cap if that is important to you. V5s have the removable top cap. Vendors photos and product descriptions may not have been updated to provide this information.

This list is accurate right now. Tomorrow may be different. Add some more current links if you have them, especially if you have good experience with the vendor.

-101 Vape. Out of stock on flat tops but have the slant top (round top) body only with 14-day warranty for $42.
Sigelei ZMAX V3- Round top - 101 Vape

-Varitube. Varitube is by far the favorite vendor on this thread. The $75 kit is not badly priced with the included extras and the 90-day warranty. Varitube also has the flat top body only for $60 and slant tops in stock.
Sigelei - Zmax / Legend

-Free-Cigs. Has V5 w/cell phone charger for $60 with 30-day warranty.
ZMax V5 Telescope Flat Top (Sigelei - Stainless Steel)

-Stormy's Vapor Center. Has the V5 w/cell phone charger for $75 with 30-day warranty.
Genuine Sigelei ZMax V5 VV/VW Telescope Mod

-Desert Vapes. V5 w/cell phone charger for $46. V3 flat and slant tops body only for $40. All with 30-day warranties.

So, I have a ZMax V5 as my back up PV. I've been using it for a few weeks as my main mod is down for the count. Now I don't know what is going on but I have noticed that if I tighten my atomizer (Fogger V3) down snug I get intermittent behavior. It's one of two things either;

1) my ZMax is running at a lower than indicated wattage and intermittently giving me the indicated wattage or,

2) My ZMax is giving me the required wattage intermittently with spikes of full wattage.

I have cleaned the threads and checked that my atty isn't shorting and that hasn't changed anything. I also have intermittent really loud buzzing, like the PWM buzz, but it's so loud I can feel it in the body of the mod. Anybody know what this is?

Yzer, thanks for taking the time to compile the above vendor list! I check out Desert Vapes website again, and decided drop the hammer on their flat top. I called them yesterday and they told me there was only one "seam" above the screen, but they may have just gotten in new stock because the page on the site specifically says "removable top" which I don't remember seeing yesterday. When I spoke to them, they did tell me that it was the black-background button though, so even if the cap isn't removable, I'll be happy with a newer production version (I don't want one with the older fire button which began to fail after a month of use).

Now I'm just crossing my fingers that it gets to Georgia before we take off to visit family for Christmas. I paid a few extra bucks for the priority shipping, so I should be fine.

Thanks again for putting in the effort to help out the rest of us! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

You might just have an intermittent or varying electrical connection in the coil that makes and breaks contact as the coil heats and cools. Have you tried to start over and re-wrap the coil to see if you can duplicate the problem?

You probably already do this, but prior to winding your coil make sure that you clean your Fogger V3 and your fingertips well with alcohol to remove any oil/contaminants to make sure you get a good electrical connection in the end. If you've done all of that and you still have the same issue, you might be forced to stay away from winding your atomizer at a resistance that approaches 1.4 ohms. Your PV circuitry might be a little more sensitive to this than others and may not like 1.6 ohms. Try 1.8 or 2 ohms and see what happens, then decide what to do from there. If your heart is set on 1.6 ohms, you may need to go to a different PV.

When all is said and done, don't overlook simple problem areas like the threads (Noalox) or a dirty connection under the spring in the bottom cap that can cause other seemingly unrelated problems. More than once I've taken care of other symptoms caused by these trouble areas.
