Sigelei Zmax V3 and V5 Telescopic: User's Group

I use 18350 once in a while when smallest size is important. These batteries last me about three hours. The AW 18350 is rated 700mAh while Efest claims 800mAh. I think Efest is actually more like 700mAh, but they cost less.

I mostly use flat top Efest 18500. These last me a good six to seven hours. The 18650 IMRs I got with a kit in April usually last me all day.

The Efest flat top batteries are labeled V1. The button tops are V2.

CCV usually has good pricing for Efest.

I see this Efest IMR hybrid 18650 at 2250mAh and 10 amps. Has anyone tried this? It's about 10% more capacity and 10% more cost over the Efest IMR 18650 2000mAh.

Thanks again yzer -- is there a lot less thread slop with the 18500s, and what is the difference between the button and flat tops?

Button tops permit batteries to be stacked. Flat tops cost less but otherwise they are identical to button tops.

I just tried to get tube wiggle with 18500 and couldn't get any. I can push up on the bottom of the battery cap and feel a little slack between the threads.

I prefer the flat tops. Slightly shorter and they have better venting on the positive.

Yesterday my son threw my v3 all the way down from the second floor stair rail. AGAIN.. Slammed into the trim so hard there were pieces of paint deep in the mouth piece on the odessyus. The top on the v3 popped out a little but didn't fall out, which is a nice thing. Just staightened it out and vaped till I hammered it back tight later. No damage to the 510 or anything else, amazingly the heavy oddy was undamaged as well. Love this stainless... They've both taken taken a lot of abuse already and holding up well. Lol

Yeah, pbursardo did a review. I'd like the extra power in the zmax. I'd rather not have to wave my stuff around. Good idea, just don't think the application is practical. It would be nice to do firmware updates to vape gear.

More like 3.6 or so because Sigelei has made several improvements in the V3 since it was first introduced late in 2012. The removable top cap started to show up during the summer. Sigelei still calls it V3, though.

It looks like the most recent batch feature the the Sigelei logo. Those showed up in the US during the last few weeks. The Sigelei logo first appeared on units sold in Europe earlier this year. We don't really know yet if the logo is an option picked by some vendors or if all of the new production Sigeleis have it.

You're going to enjoy it, Gato. It is a great, do it all mod. Especially good for tanks, but equally at home dripping.

I hope the logo doesn't stay. I prefer the clean look. It's appealing.

I just registered to this forum today. After throwing a few comments in the new members section, I can finally post in a thread that I've followed closely. "The mother of all Zmax threads" is an appropriate title.

I'm an owner of a Sigelei Zmax V5, and have owned it for almost 2 months now. I've managed to unlock a few features on my unit, and I'm wondering if other V5 and V3 owners can replicate it. I've found a way to view the version of my unit through the oled. I've also enabled a mode where by pressing and holding the fire button, my Zmax display the resistance of my atomizer full screen for less than a second, just before showing the battery-firing screen (output, battery life, and puff counter if menu 5 is chosen accordingly).

If I don't follow the specific steps outlined below, when I press and hold the fire button of the Zmax, I'm directly shown the battery-firing screen. This is the standard mode of operation I'm sure we are all used to.

To make things clear, here are the steps I take to view the version number and unlock what I described above.

1. Remove the end cap of the Zmax.
2. Place a battery into the unit.
3. Press and hold the fire button.
4. Screw the end cap into the unit.

On my Zmax, after holding the fire button and screwing in the end cap, the screen displays "SI V2.0a" for a second, followed by "4.0 V" for a second (the voltage of my battery) and cycles these outputs until I release the fire button.

5. Release the fire button.
6. Press the fire button 5 times to turn the Zmax on.
7. Press and hold the fire button.

At this point, "2.2 Ω" (my atomizer resistance) is displayed full screen for less than a second, followed by the battery-firing screen that we are all used to. This mode of operation continues until I remove the end cap of the Zmax. A benefit of this new mode is that I never need to select "Resistance" under menu 5 "LCD Display". The resistance of my atomizer is always shown immediately after pressing and holding the fire button. The resistance displays for less than a second, and isn't a nuisance whatsoever.

I'm curious what happens with other users when they follow the steps above. Is this feature V5 specific? How many other users are shown SI V2.0a? What other versions are there?

Looking forward to some responses.

Verrry interesting, Deckacards. Welcome to the group!

In a nutshell... Doing this operation does much the same for V3. It also set both of my Sigeleis into default settings for VV. I had to reset both to display power upon firing, VW operation and RMS. After checking the version info I released the button, let the display go out, removed battery cap and did a normal boot-up. Then I reset for power display on firing, VW and RMS.

Interesting! This is the screen I kept getting while trying to fire it. I had posted wondering what it was. It was related to my negative losing contact in the tube threads. Now I know what was happening. The battery ground was broken at the threads while I was pressing the fire button when contact was restored it went to the soft version then I had to reboot and reset all my settings. It does work..

I have - siv1.5a

However on my v3 the screen is locked to resistance I can not change it to anything else.

I kinda wish I got the v5 because I like the screen better.. Particularly useful to me is the puff counter since I use a stainless odessyus tank and can't see my juice volume.

ried it on my V5 and got the same exact results. upon placing endcap on it read my battery voltage as well as "si v2.0a" now i really like the ohms being displayed before on each press because then i can set the LCD display to something other than ohms but still get a reading every time.

it also reset my settings to factory defaults.

next time i take the battery off it takes it out of the "display ohms every button press" mode and returns to normal while saving my defaults. i kinda wish it kept the defaults through the original procedure while in the "display ohms every button press" mode, but i guess they combined the features to also be a hard reset of the device. if i had to label this procedure that would be it: hard reset with bonus features of version/batt check & ohms every time (OET <--lol)

not sure how it works but i think that should be placed as a sticky somewhere or something i think every zmax owner would be excited to try!
