The top cap on V3 is removable just like the V5 on all V3s made since late last summer. There are other upgrades to V3 that come with the removable top cap including the one-piece stainless steel 510/eGo threading and new firmware. If the sigelei Zmax is not telescopic it is a Mini or a V2. Both are still in production.

Here is how to tell the difference. The new production V3 (and V5) have a steel flange visible between the main body and the top cap. My new V3 purchased in November 2013 is shown on top. My first generation V3 purchased in April 2013 is on the bottom. The screen on that one was slightly crooked from day one. New V3s and V5s made since last fall also have the sigelei logo laser etched on the tube below the fire button and may have CE etched on the battery cap. The very latest V3s and V5s have metal fire buttons. My new production V3 was made just before the laser etched logos came out.

I just got a V5 a few days ago, and LOVE it. I must have an older version even though the site I bought it from said it was the latest, since I don't have the etched logo on the tube.

Don't worry about it. All of the V5s have the removable top cap and other than logos, all are new production. It could be a slightly older production unit or it could be recent production but the vendor didn't order it with logos. Sigelei offers vendors some choice in orders including kit items, finish and I suppose, logos too.

Thanks to those suggesting to use noalox on the threads, I picked some up today (with me and 2 store clerks searching for it in lowes) and it does make quite a difference. I think I was over tightening before applying noalox, as tightened till had no play or wobble, now added noalox to the threads, it is a lot smoother and don't need to tighten as much to lose the wobble/play, I was surprised how much of a difference it did make.

I just got mine today from varitube. I love this thing, I should have gotten a mod a long time ago. Big step up from the ego's I was using before. I'm using it with a Kangertech Aerotank with 2.0 dual coil at 12.0 watts and its vapetastic, no gurgling, no burnt taste, just clean vape. I love it!:vapor: here is a couple pics next to my ego's. Are the V3's still being produced? I checked Desert Vapes where I got my V3 and they said the V3 is no longer available. The V5's are not in stock, but the V5's are on order. Personally I don't need the USB charging bit, so I'm sorry to see the V3's to go if they have been discontinued. They are the perfect mix of form and function :(

I got mine from varitube for 74.95 for the kit. Tinkering with it since I got it, it seems that the control board is threaded into something or held into place by something other than glue. I took my finger and pushed and twisted as hard as I could on the bottom of the board and it would not budge, so I think they took into consideration the complaints and made a sweet mod. It is really solid if I do say so myself. I also have the 18650 in it at the moment and torqued it down as much as I could(I know not smart but I had to see if it was junk) and the display didn't budge. I think they built a winner this time.

The Sigelei Telescopic V3 weighs 3.7 oz. It measures 23mm in diameter and 100mm long with 18350, 127-130mm long with 18650. I have no experience with the Smok telescope and can't provide a fair comparison of the two for you. However, ECF has seen fit to give Smok "Max" users their very own forum here.

You should be able to get the Smok info from the link above. We are mostly Sigelei users here but you never know, someone here may have owned one.

Somebody has must have experience with the SMOK and Sigelei Zmax Telescope's. Are they identical in weight/size ect...
I already provided the Sigelei V3 info for you a few posts back. Three lengths are given for the Smok Telescopic Zmax: 101.5mm/116.5mm/131.5mm (18350, 18500, 18650). Smok lists the weight as 142.3g+75g(box). 142.3g is 5.02 oz. Maybe that weight includes a battery.

Does the sigelei have a 23mm diameter?
Yes. That's what my calipers say, too. Here it is with an IBTanked 22mm XL tank on top. You can't tell that the tank is 1mm smaller in diameter than the Sigelei. If I knocked that over on the table (which I have done quite a few times) the tank won't make contact with the desk.
