During my recent testing of the Duty Cycle in the V5, I thought about how it would be nice to stack 2 x 18650 batteries so I wouldn't have to be concerned that my crappy 18350's could handle the load and affect my test results. It so happens that today while I was searching the web for replacement parts my wife's Vamo, I came across a post that mentioned that the Vamo battery extension tubes fit onto the sigelei Z-Max threads. 5 minutes later...

Stacked 18650.jpg

Lo' and behold! LMAO! It's a hefty beast, but as anyone might have suspected, it works just fine! The battery life with my existing 2.5 ohm atty at 8 watts has to be somewhere close to 3 days! Also, in case you're wondering, I'm using 2 x IMR Efest V2 batteries (2250 mAh). Keep in mind that I'm hyper aware that these have not been used as a matched set since they were purchased (obviously), but I'm not asking for much from them and I'm not terribly concerned about it. I doubt I'll be using it like this for more than a few hours. I just had to try it out to satisfy my own curiosity. :)

As a side note, it occurs to me that the resistance in the threads over the full length of the tube is probably now a concern more than ever since there are more threads than usual. Clean threads and fresh Noalox is likely a must.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this and give everyone a chuckle (while Jeremy runs off to buy extension tubes for his V3, LOL!).

Cheers!
Andy

Edit: The full length including my Kayfun 3.1 is 11 inches (7 and 5/8 inches with no topper). I doubt anyone would mess with you on the street if you were holding this for fear of getting their skull caved in.

Lol, that's just a little too big for me. :) but would give you very accurate stacked tests.

I'm waiting for the 18350 to catch up with advances in the larger batteries. I'm about to order a set of the new 18350 purple efest. But would to see them take the next step with a little more mah and amp limit. The red efest seem to be holding up fine though. There under a much lower load in stacked config. A full day is good for me.

Don't degrade the sigelie by mixing it with a vamo. Lol

I'm needing some advice (after reading about 15 pages of this thread, my eyes are wonky....)

I'm looking for a new mod, and I'm seeing raving reviews about the Zmax family. My big question (which I haven't seen anything in what I've read so far) is regarding batteries. Can I use button-top, flat-top or either (if in stacked mode, they will both be the same ;) )

I have lots of other questions, but I'm not quite ready to babble (and I have to get back to work!)

:edit: Another question - I can't seem to tell the difference between the V3 and the V5 - help?

Thx in advance :)

If specs are too be believed the AW 18490 is a nice battery. These have the same 1100mAh rating as Efest red 18490 & 18500 but have a 16A continuous discharge rate. After 17 months of nearly continuous use two of my four red Efest 18500s are beginning to sag a little in capacity. I may be replacing all four soon.

We are talking about Sigelei Zmax, not Smok Zmax. Sigelei Zmax V3 and V5 can use both flat top or button top batteries. Use whatever you want but use a safe chemistry battery like IMR or equivalent hybrid batteries.

The V5 adds these features to the V3 but is otherwise identical to V3. Cell phone charger with ninth Menu Item to control it. OLED display shows two lines of information when firing instead of one. Current display, puff timer and puff counter.

Yes, Sigelei :) I'm looking at a pair of EFEST (red) 18350 (800maH) to get me started. Also looking at the Nitecore Intelligent Charger - I4.

Any opinions on the Mini? (Other than it only holds one 18350)

hi guys

im sure its been covered here but there are too many pages to go through lol

i have a zmax v3 non flat top

it looks a little messy, so i saw on toddsreviews he had a beauty ring (it was provari)

anyone know where i can get one from that fits without having to modify?

i dont care what brand it is, as long as it fits :)

I recommend flat tops all around. Especially when stacking, the 4mm difference helps.

Edit to add-

The biggest benefit of the v5 in my opinion is the actual output reading. It details the actual output and amps.

Downside they use a chrome plastic button . Not sure but I think they are around with the clear button that has been so good on the v3.

I kinda do both. When I was first looking at the V5 and reading the forum for opinions I seem to remember, either in this thread or another, that the V5 liked button tops better so I got the Efest 18650 2000mah button tops Later I got the Efest 18500 1100 mah flat top to use at work cause it's easier to carry.

Once I get a little ahead I'm gonna get AWs from RTD. I haven't seen an AW 18500 just the 18490 which i'm guessing are a little too short for the V5?

You can use either :) You have a telescopic right?

I'm not sure about actual beauty rings that can be bought, but on my flat-top V3 which isn't *really* flat, I use one of the kayfun rings in place of the regular top cap; it doesn't screw in or anything, it just sits there and the tank holds it in place -- but, it's just a smidge (a tiny smidge!) too tall, so if the tank you're using won't let you extend the 510 screw a little, then it won't work. My Tobeco KFL+ tanks let me extend that screw without loosening the coil block, so it works great for me.

The Mini if fine is all you want to use is one 18350 battery. I have Efest red 18350s. They are good batteries but like all 18350's are somewhat lacking in capacity. Efest exaggerates the 800mAh rating. It's more like the 700mAh claimed by AW for 18350. If you are a light vaper they may do well for you.

Or have four in a case for all day long... Like me ;)

BTW, purples are better overall. You won't notice the 100ma difference

Thank you all. I was toying with getting a Mini that is currently on sale for $23. Then I pulled the trigger on the V3 (only $45) because it can use 18650's *OR* stacked 18350's in full mode. I can also use a single 18350 in "mini (me)" mode. Since I'm somewhat impatient, and wanted all the stuff to come together, I did get the 2 18350s, but I also got 2 purple 18650s (2000 maH, I believe) I'm not a sub-ohmmer (and know I can't on this device), but I'm just looking for something to drive my Nautiluses a little higher oomph than my MVP can push. I did get the Nitecore I4 charger, and with a 10% coupon code, managed to grab the entire order for less than $100. So "Happy Six-Month Vapaversary" (yesterday) and "Happy 50th Birthday" (next month) to me!!!!! I've got some kayfun (clones) that I will be curious to see how they behave as well (I build those to about 1.8 - 2.0Ω along with all my EVOD heads...)

I appreciate everyone's input. Doesn't sound like I made too bad of a choice :)

If you'll have me, I'm sure I'll be back with lots more questions.

I got the V5 round top because it was in stock and I don't care about the topper gap. I still use ET-S and i30 as well.

I wrongly thought that the phone charger adapter would allow charging the mod battery through usb like the MVP.

I use AW 18490 button tops all day, 18350 sometimes and 18650 on the weekend. It gets a little heavy with the 18650. The 18350 lasts as long as an ego, 18490 seems almost twice as long, 2000 mah 18650 all day and night.

Sounds like a good choice, dinger. I've been very happy with my own V3!

I lurk in here a lot, just reading; there's some amazing basic support and super-techie-whiz-bang going on, all the time, all at the SAME time... which is why I just lurk alot. :D Always trying to learn something new! :thumb:
