I have been salivating over the Spire since it was introduced. I will pull out a V5 board and replace the V3 board that is in it. Still too much money.

We've been "salivating over the Spire" since YOU MADE US salivate over the Spire VapieDan! :sneaky: Thanks a lot! ;)

V5 guts in the Spire would definitely be first-class! (no offense to the already excellent SS build on the V3/V5 intended.)

As recompense for your evil transgression to this Zmax forum, I propose that the responsibility fall on your shoulders to keep the rest of us informed when the price on the Spire drops to something more reasonable. ;)

I think we bought the V5s with the SS button from Desert Vapes in the spring of 2014. They were not advertised as being anything special, we just got them on the luck of the draw. There don't seem to be many of these around. Some of the Spires had SS buttons. I'll bet sigelei had some of these buttons left over from Spire production and used them up on a batch of V5s.

Yeah, I remember that. As far as I know, you and I are the only members of the forum that have ever mentioned getting their hands one of these. It's a shame really because these are tough and look great. As we've said before, they should have made all of the V5's with these SS buttons. The chromed plastic 'power symbol' buttons just don't hold up well. My spare V5 has one of those buttons, and the chrome shows slight wear already and I've hardly used it (just from rolling around in my pocket). If I ever crack that V5 open to slap a spacer and an Omron switch in it, it's getting a clear button from a 1st-gen V3 that went bad a little over a year ago.

I don't know if any of you have Sig's carry for the zmax but I have 2 and have found them handy.
Sigelei E Carry - WhimWhamVapes.com

Thanks for that link for those Sig carry rings aikanae1. I just bought 2 in SS. I've been looking for something similar for a while now. I just hope they don't force the top cap to unscrew too much. I already unscrew my top cap until it meets the bottom of my topper, so as long as I don't have to unscrew beyond that with the carry ring, I'll be fine.

My top cap screws all the way down as if there wasn't anything there. Fits perfectly on the Zmax but on no other 22mm mod that I have. They are kind of a mystery that I catch myself wondering about, usually procrastinating doing the laundry or something. But the fit is uniquely for Zmax somehow.

The used ones were from SanJosse. I'm curious about which ones he's selling. He might have additional parts too.

I know someone in another thread who just had their Spire die on them. Serious about putting V5 guts in one?

Aikanae1, thanks for the extra info on the Sigelei carry ring. Now I'm a little worried that since I unscrew the top cap to meet the bottom of the tank, there might be some slop in the carry ring. I guess I'll just have to wait and see when it arrives and try it out. Maybe an o-ring under the top cap will help if the carry ring moves around too much in my thread gap.

If the individual on the other thread with the non-working Spire is willing to sell it to you cheap, it should be relatively easy to swap the bad circuit board with a V5 circuit board (since the Spire uses a V3 circuit board). If for whatever reason you're not interested and if you don't mind, put me in touch and I'll be happy to make them an offer on it. ;)

Sigh.....What the Zmax series could have become.

Elevator v2 DNA 30 Mod by Cloud Mods

No kidding. Sigh.

Seriously send them pics and links to the site. Sigelei won't hesistate about borrowing designs if they can make money at it. I've seen 'em do it. We could have a V7 within a couple of months. Get five hundred people to commit and pay in advance and it's for sure.

I know Kanger used to have a blog post requesting customer designs. I think most chinese manufacturers get a good portion of their ideas from anywhere they can.

I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing. By top cap I mean the cap surrounding the ego/51O connection. That wouldn't have anything to do with battery. I think your talking about the actual tube?

If you don't have one with that removable ring, the carry won't work.

Calling all Sigelei detectives! This one baffles me. Listed as a V5 telescopic. However it looks like a v3 mini. Any comments?

SIGELEI Z MAX V5 TELESCOPIC VV/VW APV MOD

The 1st photo where it's standing up, it seems like the image is squashed down a bit making it appear shorter. If you look at the other 2 photos where it's laying down in the foam, the length looks like what you'd expect from a regular V3/V5. I could be wrong, but that's what it looks like to me.

I thought the difference between V3 and V5 was in the menu system and the seller doesn't state which menu. I'd ask the seller how many items were on the menu system. The instruction sheet should say.

The matching atty looks good. Wonder what it is? I usually see those sets with protanks.

Yeah, the menu would be the right way to verify it's a V5 just for your peace of mind.

Not sure on the atty, but probably a protank variant. As you said, that's what we usually get with these kits. If you're going to ask the seller to check on the menu, you might as well ask about the topper as well. Don't be surprised if they don't know either (reseller).

It's not a protank. Those were curved shaped. I'm suspecting maybe a metal nova or dct tank at the low end and at the more interesting end would be an unknown sigelei atty. I don't remember any made to match but ya' never know...

I left a mssg for SJ asking what Zmax's he's selling. My hunch is whatever they are came from one of his custom group buys. He went over those proto types with a critical eye. He hasn't been online since ...

I found the person saying their Spire had died and pm'd. Haven't heard back. Once in awhile I remember things right.

I'm not sure where we are getting our wires crossed (I don't remember saying anything about the battery?). What you and I are calling the "top cap" seems to be the same thing (the cap that you can remove that surrounds the ego/510, right?).

Maybe I'm making too many assumptions and that's where the confusion is coming from. My impression is that the carry ring has a small protruding lip that goes around the inside of it that keeps it positioned between the tube and the removable top cap. Is that correct? If that's the case, then all I'm saying is that if I normally unscrew my top cap to meet the bottom of the tank, then that thread gap between the tube and the top cap will be larger with more exposed top cap threads. So all I'm saying is that the carry ring might flop around in that larger thread gap. I hope that makes more sense. Maybe the mechanism that the carry ring uses to stay on the tube is different than what I think it is. If so, please set me straight.

The carry is on the outside of the tube. It's not imbetween anything. That's the mix up. That protruding lip is decorative, where the ring for the carbinger is formed. You'll see. No worries.

This one is pretty simple. The photo shows a Sigelei Zmax Mini with anodized red tube. It is a standard Sigelei Zmax Mini that uses a single 18350 battery. Two 18350s and a charger are included. The eBay listing mistakenly identifies the rig in the photo as a V5.

Sigelei used the "V# designation for the V1 (discontinued), The non-telescopic V2, the telescopic V3 and the telescopic V5. There was no V4 in accordance with Chinese numerology customs.

Sigelei never used the "V" designation for the 18350-only Sigelei Zmax Mini series. There were some Sigelei Zmax Minis that used tube or battery cap extensions to fit larger batteries but these units were limited to custom orders only (like some group-buy Minis).

I have never seen a Sigelei Zmax Mini with the ninth menu setting for the cell phone charger or the V5 dual line OLED firing display. Mini and V3 shared the same menu systems and firmware versions.

All of the rigs above (except V1) eventually incorporated common design improvements that included one-piece SS eGo/510 connectors, removable top caps and firmware upgrades. None of these improvements resulted in changes to the Sigelei model names.

Uh not to be rude but I'm pretty sure I'm to blame...

Get this,

an American company has cloned the zmax v3...
looks like the same board and chip maybe. The big bonus is an integrated air flow controler. A little bit fancier looking for more than twice the price of the sigelie, and a claimed extended warranty.
