25.000 was THEIR number thinking it might be too high for us to obtain.

We need to send a load-and-clear message to them by keeping this
petition in front of everyone all the way up till the closing hour.

We reached THEIR number .... NOT OURS !!
Keep it going !!!

We will NOT go Silently into the Night

Excellent advice, Petrodus. Let's keep bumping this, mindful of the fact that next time the number to reach will be significantly higher.

They have already announced that they have bumped the required # of signatures to 100,000. We got in just before that.

GREAT NEWS! -- We now have 25,244 signatures on the petition and it is still going :)

Thank you to everyone who has helped in this effort!

Keep Signing it..... The More, the Better and more impact it can have! :)

The amount needed (25,000) was for any and all petitions, not just this one.

My guess is that they raised the required amount because they are seeing too many petitions being
created and many are very unreasonable (e.g, Death Star petition, Change the National Anthem to
the theme from My Little Pony, etc.). Also, our politicians have already have so much on their tables
that they simply can't address every single petition being made, so the higher number would also keep
the response amounts lower.

It would seem that there is no real requirement for posting a petition and any thought/issue, no matter
how real or goofy, can be made into a petition.

A huge thank you to Smokey Joe or whomever else at ECF posted the Alert on this website's home page urging folks to sign the petition to the White House.

I suspect that ECF alert generated at least 95% of the 25,000 signatures on the White House petition. And I suspect that at least 95% of ECF generated signatures were submitted by ECF members who have never visited this legislation news thread.

I also suspect the previous alert on the ECF home page (urging folks to submit comments to the FDA on Section 918 by Jan 16) generated at least 80% of the 5,365 written comments that were submitted to FDA).

Once again, many thanks to ECF for mobilizing these online campaigns to keep e-cigarettes legal and affordable.

I've tried to sign the petition a dozen times and the page freezes. I can't refresh, and get the following message: "www.whitehouse.gov is not responding". Is anyone else having a problem?

No problem here, but sometimes using a different browser can make dynamic pages work properly.
