I've tried everything I can think of, everything I've read about, redone all the basics three or four times. I think it's the chip, gosh darn it! Now here's where I like the ease of repairing a Provari which I had to do a month ago. $65 and back in a week. I don't know where to begin to get this thing working. I'm quite reluctant to send it to Germany, or the moon, or wherever. I'm seriously considering just dropping $210 on a new one and having a lot of spare parts now. Possibly buying another The Eye, as it's a heck of a good APV, or maybe waiting for the P3. I can't wait though, I'm down to four top line APV's and I feel exposed, naked and bereft. I need another APV like NOW! I've using the Semo and Eye with two Provari backups and a third Provari, that the missus sometimes uses. I know it may sound odd to some, but I know exactly where my comfort zone is on my vaping INSTRUMENTS, and I am ONE SHORT, atm. That's just me. Too each their own. If you can't relate to this, don't flame me please....it's just me.

I stopped counting a year ago when I had 30 and realized that I didn't need more than a handful of good APV's. I've sold almost all of them, but I did have a need to know about what worked best for me initially, and I did discover that for myself. However, I do have a minimum now, and I just reached it.

Changing that chip is painless. Didn't pbusardo get one fairly easy? It doesn't sound too far fetched for them to get one to you.

Probably not, but I already have a brand new one on the way to me as I write this. I even considered not replacing it, as the new Taifun performance is considerably better, numbers wise, but about $100 more, too! So, I did what I usually do in times of need, I ordered a backup, and then I can take my time figuring out how to best fix this one, and feel better because of it, and, in so doing, ruled out another Taifun Eye at this time. Still waiting on the P3. If it's even close to the Semo/Eye, I'll buy a couple right off the bat. The fact is that you can't beat their quality, reliability, warranty, repairs and service. I bought the Semo because I wanted the best VW device out there, which it was, at the time. It's not any longer. Still, a place in my heart for it, so re-ordered a new one. :2c:

My appetite to experience the depth and breath of vaping compels me; the curiosity to perfect and share the efficient use of these discoveries with others overwhelms all prudence and resistance. Then again, why are you here exactly? I would say you love cooking, as I do.

:D

Good luck.

Good luck.

I hear 'ya bro. Frankly, I was relieved to find what worked for me, as I felt driven to search until I did find the happy vape place, and it took a good year to do so. When I started building a single, simple micro coil in my kayfun's, I stopped trying most other builds as well. The only real change for me has been switching from kayfun to taifun. I have a dozen drippers and only use them occasionally to taste test. As you know, I switched my interest from coils and hardware to juice making. I'm just at a happy place in my vaping. I like regulated devices, taifun, micro coils, KGD, and a lot of different juices. I feel like I can rest now, if you know what I mean. I have found my personal Nirvana. You've been a big help to me, my friend, and I appreciate it! :toast:

Bill, this may not help and you may have already tried this, but have you done this: Without an atty attached, go to wattage/voltage setting and set it to the lowest setting, replace atty and try firing it? And/or switch from VV to VW (or vice versa)... As I remember, when that error hits you cant change the setting with an atty attached? I cant remember....

You could also remove the chip and visually inspect the "springs" on each end that connect the battery top and 510 to see if anything looks "wrong"...

You could also try removing those metal plugs with the white delrin from each side, so you'll actually make absolute direct contact with the chip connectors...

Last, is a little noalox on the threads, which I doubt will resolve that issue...... but its a good idea to do IMO...

Knowing your a veteran, I'm sure you've already covered all the bases and maybe the chip has finally gone south on you :( I think you can buy the Nivel chip as a replacement part, however AFAIK the Semovar chip has those aforementioned spring type things on each end, as I remember they are only on with a screw so may be easily transplanted to a new chip, this is assuming you got the builders version of the chip...if the chip came from (or comes from) SvoeMesto I assume it would be plug and play, which it so literally is with the exception of a single screw where the top of the battery makes contact to the control head.....

The E3 error code never goes away. Take battery out, replace: E3. With head, no head: E3. It's gotta be the chip. Maybe it can be reset somehow, like at the factory on their equipment, but not in my hands now. I have a wood shop, not an electronics shop too....so, NO GO. NEW SEMO. I'm ok with it. I don't expect them to last forever. I got a year out of it, I was hoping for two, though. I'll figure out what to do soon and let you guys know how it worked out. In the meantime, my new one will be here Monday. Unfortunately, I'll be in OK Monday, LOL! So, whatever, maybe Tuesday, we'll have to see. Thanks for the advice PG, and everyone else! Best!

~~ Intermission for thermal runaway paranoia ~~

Is it normal for a battery to get warm during use? I'm using efest and panasonic and sometimes I notice the battery tube to get warm (not hot). I'm running kayfun with 1.5ohms micro-horizontal-cottom at 7-11 watts (depending how my wicks decide to have an attitude ) and I check the atomizer and the nivel part and they seem to be at normal temperature, it really is the battery tube. I say this because of the pwm vs dc difference in approaches of the provari and semovar. Provapes have a whole page discussing batteries, wonder if anyone notice battery getting warm.

But then, not using any thermometer and just touch (while juggling the semovar and a glass of water :D ).

Edit: btw, i've blown the batteries tube of the semovar in the two directions and it has solid venting holes, even on the positive pole (goes through the chip and visor with a tighter draw though).

Would you be kind enough to tell me what you did. I have to send a Semo for repair, and any guidance would be sincerely appreciated.

I think this is the contact info:
SvoeMesto <info@smtec-gmbh.de>

If not, just search their website for "Contact Us" I sent the first message through a contact form on their website, and was replied to by E mail quickly. The only tricky part for me was while at the post office trying to make sense out of the German shipping address and translating that to the US shipping form... I was praying it got sent to the proper place, which obviously it did. I asked the lady at Post Office for her help/opinion on which line should go where.

I dont want to scare you, It's pretty straitforward. SvoeMesto says pack and ship to them at said German address, you then go put your package in a bubble wrapped envelope at P.O. then pay for shipping and wait for your device to return... I just wish they would have sent an email or notification that they recieved it, however you could probably ask them to let you know. I didn't ask. Also I may send another email if my curiosity gets the best of me.. i'd really like to know if they replaced the chip or if they repaired it?

They did not send a return slip or anything with the returned Semo.

Sorry to hear about your E3 problems. I've been lurking in hopes that you would find a solution.

Sending it to Germany sounds scary as described, but it guess that's the best shot you have. Keep us informed as to your results, cause it may happen to any or all of us sooner or later.

I've had the same error a few times before and as you, cleaned and clicked and pressed buttons and hit it I'm my palm and just as I came close to giving up, it just majically started working.

I've bought 3 more used Provari's since my two Semo purchases...... Though I love my Semo's for the looks and light weight, the Provari's are the clear winner to me.

I've been enjoying a little vapor shark DNA 30 but only for the size. As you Know, I stay around the 3.5 to 3.7 watt arena so I really don't need more or less power, although I do like a 1 ohm coil and that can be pissy with the old Provari's at times. Lol

Good luck with sending yours off.
