Smoking is allowed...but vaping isn't [college campus]

Was the university ever mentioned? I thought most in California were completely smoke free...
Woah, intense story haha..Here in minnesota I am dealing with the same thing with my school. There were kids running {Other Stuff} through there vapes and had to ruin it for everyone =(

In reverse order. Someone sees vapor pouring out of your car window, calls the cops about your car being on fire. Cop comes, you all have a good chuckle, nobody is fined or arrested. I've been sitting in traffic behind a couple of friends blowing clouds in the car, and thought the exact same thing. (except I already knew what it was.)
vaping in your room and a smoke detector goes off. I've set mine off in my house several times. My girlfriend has set them off a couple of times while cooking as well. They aren't tuned to vapor... they weren't singling you out. They did what they are supposed to do. Again, no fines levied, and nobody even said anything about it.
The only part of this that even warrants mentioning is the first part where an RA told you it's not allowed. Did you ask to see the rule for yourself? Did you take the time to look it up and see if it actually exists, and what the parameters are? Have you spoken to someone with some actual authority about it, or just your peer group here on the interweb?

From kindergarten to post graduate schools, one is more likely to find a person with a rational thought process in a residential mental health facility than in the offices of any educational institution.

Even though I have No great love for some School Administrators, I don't like hearing Blanket Statements like this. Because I have worked with Many Individuals who are Extremely Dedicated and Professional in what they do.
This type of Slight in akin to saying All Judges are Egocentric Dictators prone to Capricious Actions. Which both You and I know is Not True.

Honestly I think you're isolating yourself needlessly - check the rules of your institution I sincerely doubt it specifies no e-cigs in the smoking area. when the RA asks show her a copy of the rules and be done with the BS.

Ahh well, I can't please everyone all of the time. I stand by my statement and you may stand by yours. Kids suspended for holding a pop tart shaped like a gun; colleges requiring atheists may be members of Christian groups; speech codes, examples of educational irrationality are rampant. I know the individuals are very dedicated to what they do; I sometimes wonder what they are doing, it doesn't appear to be education.
Have to agree with what others have said: find the rule in black and white.
