Now this is interesting, so my initial thoughts might be correct. I assumed those tubes were supposed to be over the coils to protect the wick and filler, and you just verified that they do fit. Now that you've done your dry burn are you going to fill and vape it to see how it performs with coils covered? Thanks for looking into this.

I put it back together with the sleeves over the coils, cotton over sleeves, filler over cotton, plastic tube over all. Filled it with juice. Now I don't know if it is because I misaligned the sleeves, but I can no longer see light through the middle of the tube. I filled the carto until it is dripping out the bottom. First hit, very good 5 second hit. Next hit, going for 10 seconds. No problem. Another long 10 sec burn, carto is now very hot, so I put on a drip tip. Fourth hit...BURN.

When I disassemble it again, I can find no actual burn marks. Usually it is on the cotton, but none here to speak of. But the smell is nasty. It seems to be coming from the coils or fiberglass.

I slip the (wet) fiberglass off the coils and do a 10 sec burn. Now I can't smell the burnt smell on it anymore. I put the sleeves back on the coils, and give it 3.7 volts. Smoke and burnt smell.

Conclusions: My sinuses are hating this experiment. No other conclusions.

Oh man. Sorry about that! I have to assume that the design then is for insulation of the wires so they don't short, not for anti-burn protection. Would you agree? Thanks for the test.

I think the burn was from the extra long hits, one after another. Something definately burned, but the cotton and polyfill were not marked. Maybe the juice. I don't know, but I ain't doing it again! that $#!+ stunk.

btw, this was the first dual I have burnt. I take 5-7 second hits, but don't let the carto get hot. I wait a few seconds if it starts to get too warm.

The fiberglass tubes form an air path though dual coil.
They may touch coil but do not cover coil (I believe your earlier findings are correct).
Cotton diapers protect poly from coil heat (thanks for sacrifice hangdude).

Sound right?

The picture of the new one looks like the sleeve is over the wiring and not the coil. So if it is put together this way, the the cotton and filler is what is wicking the juice to the coil. If this is true, then when the wicking cant keep up or it gets hot it will burn just like any other cartomizer with filler. What do you think??

Thanks for explaining, I get it now. I ordered some CE2 XLs Metal but I'm not exactly enjoying these. I keep getting a funny taste although they are ceramic and have no filller, don't know where that taste is comming from. About the ego, they do measure out at 3.4V according to my Fluke, wonder why they advertise them as 3.7V? Gonna try some of the Smokteks next. Thanks again.

On a 3.7? eGo you need to use the 1.5 ohm dual coils. The 2.5s are mainly for Pavarii or Darwin owners, and those people who run 5+ volts, but can't exceed 3 amps.

I use the 1.5 ohm duals on my 3.41 (actual) volt eGo and my 4.1 (ish) volt kGo. Both perform awesome with the 1.5.

As far es I know, they are 2.5 ML, not 2.5 Ohm.
