So I just got a batch of these Tuesday, from CCV (clears), and everything said has been true... they vape great, taste great, are decently simple to fill just dripping, and are generally full of awesome. CCV was awesome with ship time, keeping me updated, etc.

However, I seemed to have noticed some very light build quality on these. Now, I don't smack my PV around a lot, it doesn't get carried in a pocket, it basically gets treated very well. I am now on my fourth one of these in two days due to cracking and poor threading.

Looking close up at the threads, it seems that they are very light and soft. These carto's sit on my eGo batts (with no cone of course) and will move a few mm in every direction, simply because they are not threading tight. Also, they seem to crack at the slightest bump.

I use a PT eGo battery most of the time, and when I lay it down, the carto sits a bit above the surface of the desk as it is smaller than the batt. I bumped the PT cord the other day and tilted the PV enough during a gaming session to put some slight pressure (no more than the weight of the PT batt and the carto together, supported by the cord) on the drip tip. This cracked the carto right at the base, and left a puddle of juice on my desk :(

The second one went when filling -- I was drip filling and giving it the thermometer shake and bam, battery connection came right out the end, and the tube was cracked right at the base.

Third one was set on my desk with the bottom in a Boge-style condom (mine came without condoms) and got knocked off onto the carpet. Craaaack!

Are these little guys just that fragile, did I perhaps get a bad batch? I'm four cartos into my 15 cart order which I was hoping I would see 30 days of use out of....

Any ideas?

EDIT:

Any idea if the ones from CCV (or any other vendor) that aren't clear are made of the same plastic? I think this would be a perfect storm carto with a stainless tube...

I had some of these problems with the clears from another vendor and my next order was for all steel DC's only!

I would not shake as a thermometer while holding the plastic side! Just holding at an angle and slowly dropping liquid as you turn for each drop gets me 57 to 62 drops in a XL DC. You can tell when it is almost full by how long it takes the liquid to get sopped up. Don't drip in the middle: it will go right through it.

My vendor sold off some of their units that came with iffy threading at a clearance price.

If I were you and I was going to continue using the clears, I would cut off the end of a cone or somehow enlarge a cone to fit on the clears... when they would get harder to hit after 4-5 days, I was taking the cone off of my ePower and within one hour or so I already had knocked it off the base.

One trick: I found that if I had a cracked one at the base all I had to do was carefully pull the tube all the way off and then put it on backwards so the crack was now at the tip end. It will eventually leak if you leave it full of juice for days and weeks laying on your computer desk as I did, but if you fill and vape at least a third they don't seem to leak on me...

What sort of juice you're using? Anything with cinnamon, sour flavours or some fruit flavours will cause cracking issues. They can still crack on their own -- most often at the top (from inserting the mouthpiece) or the bottom (torque/leverage at the connector end), but cinnamaldehydes, malic and citric acid can greatly exacerbate the problem and cause cracking down the length as well.

That's interesting to know... never knew that certain flavors would crack the plastic tubes. I was using Ms. T's cinnamon roll and sour apple candy flavors in the ones that went, perhaps that was the issue.

One was sacrificed to curiosity and explaining them to my wife, and I turned the tubes around on two of em. Working great again, we'll see if I can keep from cracking em this time.

Is anyone familiar if these in black would be stainless? Or plastic? I will get an email off to CCV and see what they say, cause in stainless this is definitely gonna be the carto of choice for me.

Yeah, those would definitely do it. The plastics used in the clear cartos are particularly prone to cracking when using such flavours; the acids and aldehydes weaken it and eventually they crack. The "uncrackable" plastic used in things like the Fluxomizer Deluxe and Vision v3s from Gotvapes don't have this problem though; you can run all the cinnamon and sour flavours through those you like.

I love these things but I hate them. Im thinking of making a tank for them but that sorta defeats the reason of using them

I have built tanks for the Resurrectors (1.7 ohm single coil) and it works great. The duals tend to leak due to looser filling. If you need help with a cheap, sturdy tank, pm me or I can post it here.

Just got an email back form CCV (wow fast response!) and they stated that their black ones are steel, so I think that's the direction I will be going from now on.

I got a couple requests for tank pics, so here you go.

The top one is a Boge carto, the bottom is a resurrector but could use a stainless steel dual coil.

Here is where most of my info and some links came from. I use two O-rings instead of one like they suggest. I also drill a 3/32" hole in the poly tube, and tap the hole out with a 6-32 tap. Then I screw in a 6-32 thumb screw (from a computer case). The screw is removed for easy filling.

There are a couple vendors selling this type of design. You can make them easily for a reasonable price and some work.

I can't recommend using the painted cartos in a tank. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I would worry about the paint dissolving into my juice. I use only the stainless steel ones just to be safe.

The black SmokTech XL's have black tape on Stainless Steel

That glue is a PITA to get off. GoofOff or nail polish remover seems to work. I heard sticking it in the freezer for ten minutes helps with removing the black sticker, but never helped me. ymmv

Easier to get the SS duals when they are in stock.

I had issues with clear ones as well, use the SS ones now and fill with a blunt tip syringe and it is filled and capable in seconds. I have 6 of them in my coat pocket all different favors. Love them

I use both the 2ml and the giant 5ml smoktek brand.

Remit.

OK, I've been using the same one since last Monday, over a week, clear 1.5 smoktech dual, with chocolate flavor, pretty dark, and it's just now starting to lose that oomph it had when I first filled it. I haven't cleaned it, just kept topping it off. I would say I got my $2 worth. Think I'll give it a quick rinse/clean and see how it works after that, or maybe just chuck it and start with a fresh one
