I hear nothing about batteries being killed by em, but I hear a lot of cautionary talk.
Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems like , Yes, it will shorten battery life, by dropping ohms, (which is a given) but , No, I've not heard of out and out failures.
Unless I'm not reading it right.
And , again, I'm running duallies on 510 standard mini batteries. It's running one batteries life short (after ~2+ months , running time is deteriorating) as I expected. It is a testing I was planning on, and to this day I haven't even had a shortie battery just belly up on me.
Think of it like this....
Lets take a short walk slightly off topic, but to a point that is still relative.
How often does an iPod, cellphone, or laptop, or even a car battery blow up?
Fortunately it is pretty rare. The industry tries to over-rate things and give us some room and safety features in case some part of the battery fails.
When it does happen however, it's usually very nasty. People and property do get burned...badly.
There are indeed reports of people getting hurt by devices like these...all of them. In most of those cases the user did something they weren't supposed to do with the battery at some point (maybe not even knowing it). Then there are even some extremely rare cases where the user did nothing wrong....the thing just failed.
To willingly use an underpowered battery over and over again, despite all warnings, when there are other sensible options, is playing a kind of Russian Roullette game. The probability that a battery might eventually blow up in your face and take out some teeth, a jaw bone, or an eye goes up exponetially.
So yeah...you can walk into a Casino and put all your money on double 0 every day of your life, and eventually you will indeed win a big fat pot. The big question is...how much did you loose along the way.
If you've ever seen one of these batteries vent before....be intentionally set off, or totally by accident...you'll think twice about taking chances with them. 510 batteries are pretty well designed for venting, and we hope the odds that one venting while you're sucking on it are slim to none...and that even if it does it'll do little more than singe some hairs and scare the mess out of you.......but just know, it is very possible it could hurt you, or someone you happen to be standing close to when one goes.
I'm glad you found cartos you like....they barely produce vapor at all for me when I put one on a small battery....a regular carto works better for me on small batteries...but if you like it, more power to you. I still advise that with your choice of battery (and I do appreciate your reasons for wanting to stick with a mini), you could find a similar (or even better) performing carto to the dualie for that battery for much cheaper that wouldn't pose all the risks.
For browsers of this thread....if you really want to get your money worth from a dualie....get a passthrough, or a big battery designed to let them do their job. They are worth the little extra cost then...when you realize what these cartos can really do at a good steady 3.7v or more with enough C rating on the battery to truly dump what the cartos are asking for in terms of amps/current.
