Hey Turtle....Have you went and got a VMAX yet ? I'm guessing you have.

So I got a bit of mail today.

- 1 Phoenix R.A. -----> AWESOME !!
- 5 Phoenix Bottom coil tanks (GV) ----> Not too shaby either
- 8 Vivi Nova Mini's -----> AWESOME !!
- 8 3.2 Ω Nova heads
- 20 yds. 4mm super FAT wick

Optimo I haven't even rebuilt this Phoenix R.A. yet or even put it on the VMAX due to the 2Ω coil and on my out-an-about 14650 Epower with IMR's inside this thing is nutzzz ! I would've never in a million years thought this much vapor could be produced by a atty so small. I put 20 drops in it 30 min. ago and still going crazy strong. I can't believe I can compare this $20 R.A. to my $100+ dollar DiD R.A. as far as Vapor and the WOW flavor production. With every draw my mouth salivates. I thing is really going to go insane after I throw one of my coil/wick builds on it.
Thanks for the great tip about this R.A. .... Money well spent. Actually I didn't even buy it, my good friend freddie sent it to me out of a co-op for $5 ea. Even better. I've got to send him a real nice gift for sending me such a solid product.

Speaking of your coil/wick builds......

Sorry I'm a native and I'm getting restless :)

Actually, the opposite. You can't measure a PWM voltage using AC measurement tools. You can't use DC measurement either. :)

I don't own a Provari yet, nor have I seen a picture of its output. but, in another thread you mentioned that the Provari has filtered PWM output. From my measurements the Vmax definitely doesn't have filtered output.

With my few tests with filter circuits attached to the Vmax, I see aproximately +1v higher Vout than the display setting at 3v. It's the best aproximation I've seen to explain the excessive power at the low end. I'm far from satisfied with my results so far, but I'll nail it down.

Now I think you are on toward correct measurements. ;)

Vrms and Vavg are statistical data that do not accurately reflect physical properties of the output of a PWM pulse train. The filter circuits allow for a more representative measurement.

I have no idea whether the oscillations have any effect on the heat generated by the load.

I'll be reporting back tomorrow after I get to play around with this 4mm Fat wick and see what the best setup for this is. I've only had 3mm wick but this stuff is 3x's the size of the 3mm.

I've had the 1.5mm and bought what was supposed to be 3mm but ended up being this weird loose braded crap that kinda fell apart as soon as you touched it. I was also sent 3mm today by freddie with the Phoenix not realizing or remembering I had this supa fat wick comin in today.....I think I'm good on wick for a while now.

Any links out there for some good quality "CLEAN" bamboo cotton or 100% cotton type wicks?

Crazy aint it lol. I never expected it to be so good myself. Wait till you put a good coil in it...it will blow your mind.

Vrms and Vavg are statistical data that do not accurately reflect physical properties of the output of a PWM pulse train. The filter circuits allow for a more representative measurement..

Meters that compute RMS and AVG are designed for measuring sine waves, so we can't use them. The error on square waves can be as much as 50%.

This is just an intriguing example of a regulator circuit thats just beyond the average electronic enthusiasts comprehension, but it is by no means complex. I design circuits with PWM outputs but never for the purpose of power regulation, usually just D/A conversion with, you guessed it, filtered output.

I think folks got frustrated, because here you hold something in your hand that works, but you can't show why it does, and when you try you get measurements all over the map. One person wrote here that it is because of inferior chinese PWM lol. Easy to say, hard to prove.

I think once the Vmax PWM technique is understood folks will have a better appreciation for the device. The V3 is a nice improvement on the case design, showing that Smoktech is trying to give us what we want.

Odd,I call it superior technology

I'd agree when comparing it to an Ego class device. I'm just trying to make a point thats there's more than just one way to make a high performance APV circuit, and to a degree that the Provari solution isn't the only viable one just because you can measure / validate it with a meter.

Check out pbusardo's review of the vmax, thats the one he plugs his provari into a scope to compare it with. At least I think it is, kinda late and tired so I could be mistaken on which review but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Hey everyone!

So I'm really loving my Vmax still :D and I was wondering if the ego style threads on the CE5+ clearos will fit on my version. See attached picture.

hi,
does any one know who is selling the new Vmax (v2 or v3) in a kit. I would like to have aw batteries and a good charger.

Since you want AW batts and a GOOD charger, you are probably better off buying ala carte. If you find a kit it will likely have Smoktech or generic batts and a cheap charger.

Walmart has Peaches n Cream 100% cotton yarn or thread.Hobby Lobby also has many different kinds including some made from 100% bamboo, they also carry 100% cotton food grade cheesecloth.I am actually about to rebuild my phoenix with cheesecloth.I'll let you know how it goes

Andrew at CCV has them in all 5 finishes without the charger though but at a great price and with E-Fest batts which are looking to be better than the AW's... he just got a basic charger that will charge almost anything with four spring loaded slots for less than $20.

The Stainless Steel has ego style top and blue display.

He's helped Smoktech with the basics of what us vapers really want... being instrumental on the ZMAX particulars (or whatever name they end up with)

He also has a no BS policy and will not continue selling anything that shows to not be up to snuff and I respect that very much. And...no charge for shipping! As you may be able to sense, I really am digging their site!

So after much consideration, I think I'm going to get a DID as well as a couple of the new SmokTech vivi tanks to play around with modding myself.

How long does it typically take for a DID to ship out once ordered?

They're sending out shipments between the 10-14th this month as far as I remember

Martin...When you used the DiD on your VMAX did you hear a unusual whinning sound in the VMAX ? Also what is and where is the Kayfun mini ...or whatever that is in your pick ? Just curious....TIA ........J

I was messing around building coils on this newer knock off version of the Phoenix RA and the coil I have in it now causes the VMax to make a unusual whinning sound. What's that mean Vapn? The coil glowed perfectly even and it's positioned perfect so can't see it being any kinda short. If I put the other Phoenix back on it the sound goes away.
