The idea, in device manager is to highlight the WIRED-network card, and delete it. Windows will re-install the drivers. Maybe tech support had you do that already, IDK. But if the card is not dead, a reinstall may get you network access that way too.

I have to go.

And check the cable, and make sure it's plugged into the right ports on the computer, and also (maybe a different port?) on the dsl device if there's more than one port to use. Just some ideas to try if you haven't tried them with tech support already.

I did the device Manager. It installed Tib. The computer is telling me it's not connected. 5 different USB's.

it won't connect automatically to begin with - if it's not connected then that's different from not found

if you see the new connection in 'my connections' double-click on it to get it to open

what wifi card did you get?

Windows 8.1 is not all that different. Once you get it you'll need to to a bunch of updates to get to win 8.1 and then it's pretty much like windows 7. The only real difference is the start menu (the tile organization of the start menu replacement IS weird, but i put shortcuts to all my programs on desktop so i almost never have to see it.

I agree. I have Win 7, DH and DD have Win 8 and 8.1 or whatever it is... Same difference. :)

And they have Win 10??? They skipped the 9, for some reason. How does that work?

Hallo Snails. Didn't read back--all work no play from now till Jan. 15.

Have fun!

seems a few people had serious problems with this - i picked mine (netgear) up in walmart and installation was a breeze

with your luck lately you might have gotten a bad one. have you called d-link tech support?

We have Netgear, from Best Buy. It wasn't a breeze, but it worked, eventually. Poor DH spent some time on the phone with Tech Support--and he's computer literate. I don't think I could have managed installing that beast.

Sorry, Frannie, for all your trouble. It must be frustrating as ... well, very frustrating. :(
