When I did mine, all I did was cut a groove into the post. The way I see it is you just need enough of a channel for juice to get up to the deck. I was and am hesitant to slot the insulator cause then I'd worry about the post not having that 'insulation' next to the 510 connection where I worry it could short.

Compared to some of the tolerances we work with everyday between conductive surfaces, there's plenty of real estate between the post and connector. Unless you drop some solder or something into the channel, it ain't conducting. If you have ever pulled the post on a Cyclone, you also know it isn't going to move at all to make contact.

Either way will work though.

Meanwhile, since I munged the 510 thread when trying to mod my Cyclone, I'm ordering a 7mm X .5 die to see if I can at least get it back in operation. We'll see if I feel like trying again after that.

Yes! I ordered the die from Amazon, but didn't notice until later that it was from a slow-boat seller. It finally arrived this week and I was able to bring my munged up Cyclone back to life.

So, while I was there, I decided to punch that post out (no threading on mine) and it worked. Thanks to all y'all who mentioned that method. I didn't want to spend a whole lot of time on it, so I chose the groovy insulator procedure - and because I like groovin'. I pressed/tapped the post back into place and forcefully screwed the wire trap screw in and out a few times hoping to spread that hole back into shape.

This thing works GREAT! Better than the factory BF version as has been said here before.

So glad I got it back into rotation - and BF modded at that! Good timing on this thread question, Mr. Spectacular.
