Well I have been wanting to get an ecig for about a month or two now and am so confused as to the different brands. I have noticed that some nicotine strengths vary. Some have low as 4mg and mild/medium as 6mg and others have much higher strengths. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME IN FINDING THE RIGHT ONE. I have been smoking marlboro lights for 26 years and am sooooo ready to quit and have tried everything. Have quit before and gained weight. Then start smoking again. Anyway thanks for your replies in advance. 8-o

Rhonda, one of the most popular basic ones to try and start with, is the DSE901.

As for juice strengths, I smoked menthol lights a pack a day. I find that the medium strength worked just pefect for me, which is an 11 or 12 mg. I have also cut some of that down. So you might just want to start with a medium strength juice and see how you do on it.

That would be a good starting point for ya.

Rhonda--I totally concur with Lucky. The DSE901 is a tried and true unit. You can not go wrong----Sun

Just to add to what the others said, what's really helped me stop smoking real cigarettes has been using medium strength, but smoking differently than I did with real cigarettes. I find I have to vape longer per dosing than I did with cigarettes, i.e., if I spent 5 minutes smoking a real cigarette, I need to spend 15-20 minutes vaping on medium strength liquid. At first, you seem to be smoking constantly, but I'm told that will diminish.

I couldn't achieve a good level of nicotine intake with the high stuff though without feeling like I got too much in one shot (e.g., got the shakes, etc). The medium works for me now while I'm trying to quit though so long as I vape pretty much constantly.

I'm personally using an M401 and a Joye 510C, but if I had to do it again, I'd just get two 510Cs. The 401 is nice in that it feels quite like a cigarette, but the 510 produces more vapor than even a real cigarette and the throat hit is much better than the 401.

I'm using the M401 myself and really like it. I can't compare it to the DSE901 though since I haven't used that one yet. But as someone who started vaping rather recently here is what I learned from my own noob mistakes:

1. You decide to quit analogs, your chest gets tight, you can barely breath, you feel sick about the whole thing, and the stress of the mere thought of quitting is killing you!

2. You do the research, find the ecig you "think" is right for you, "hope" is right for you, and you take the plunge, but what about carts and nic strength?

3. Everyone tells you to go with a lower nic strength, but you are terrified of not getting that nic hit. Once again the terror of quitting starts to rise up in your gut as you look at different strengths. Logic tells you to listen to the people who tell you to "go low" but as you stare at your computer screen at the 8mg strength you start to think, "What if it isn't enough? What if I can't get enough of a nic hit off it?". So you decide to be "safe" and order a higher strength. ( In my case I ordered the 24mg carts to start - BIG MISTAKE)

4. You place your order, attempt to wait patiently, excited and scared at the same time, you diligently watch the mailman each and every day waiting for your new kit to arrive.....and then.....it comes!

5. You tentatively open your kit, read the instructions, charge your batteries, and wait some more - until finally the time of truth has arrived. You put together your new ecig, place your faithful cart on (in my case the 24mg) take your first hit and BAM - you feel sick to your stomach, get the biggest headrush of your LIFE, your heart races, and you don't want to touch anything with nicotine in it for at least the next 2hrs.

6. You were smart tho! You also ordered liquid - so now it's back to the boards to learn about restuffing carts. You watch the videos, read the threads, empty out the 24mg carts, take your 24mg juice and cut it down to 12mg, restuff your carts - and LOVE IT!

I know it can be scary when you are making the switch, and going lower in nic strength just doesn't seem to be right...but for me, I wish I had listened to all the people telling me to go with a lower strength.

I found that the 12mg was plenty high enough during the day, and then the first FEW days I used the 24mg first thing in the morning and right before bed...and with the 24mg I found I didn't need more than 2 or 3 hits at BEST before it was at the verge of being "too much".

Hope my mistake helps you find your way -

Good Luck and Welcome!

I read this forum and looked at older forum threads for two weeks before I purchased my first electronic vaporizer.

My first electronic vaporizer was a blue DSE901 from Phil at e-Smokey Treats - Electronic Cigarette's, The healthy alternative to traditional tobacco cigarette's. Phil is a little more expensive than some suppliers but he provides a 3 month warranty instead of 14 days, gives you two atomizers instead of just one and provides a phone number where you can call him which most suppliers do not. Like all suppliers, the kit comes with two batteries and a charger. The battery will last about 2-3 hours before needing recharged although some users report getting 4-5 hours but that has not been my experience. His 901 starter kit is $69.95 where some other suppliers will sell them for $49.95 or $59.95 but without the extra’s that Phil provides. I would consider the DSE901 a good first purchase and it is about the size of a regular 100 cigarette. (If you purchase from Phil at e-smokey-treats.com, when it asks for a coupon code, use esmoking101 and you should get 10% off.)

Many users like the classic penstyle 801 model which has a larger atomizer and cart and a typical battery charge life of about 4-5 hours. The draw is lighter, more like a straw due to having 4 holes in the atomizer and the bigger cart. The 801 is larger and looks more like a big pen instead of regular cigarette. You can also purchase a USB pass-through for both the 901 and 801, which allows you to plug into a usb port on your computer and not have to worry about changing batteries. You can then purchase a portable battery pack for the usb pass-through such as this one from Kennsington (Kensington - Portable Power Pack for Select Mobile Devices - Black - K38021) and make your usb power portable. Make sure the power pack is at least 1000mAh power output.

Most users want an e-vap to provide the “throat hit” that is most like a real cigarette (analog as we call them) as well as long battery life. IMO, the only way to get that is to purchase a manual e-vape that allows you to push a button and heat up the atomizer more before you inhale. The one that does that the best is the screwdriver (SD) from trog at: - The ScrewDriver - An electronic cigarette that simply works. It is more expensive but it just can’t be beat for long battery life and throat hit. And my experience with trog has been outstanding. I have emailed him many times with questions and he almost always responds any where from 10 minutes to an hour or so.

IMO, the only way you will enjoy vaping is if you buy e-liquid or e-juice to refill your carts instead of use the prefilled cartridges that come with the starter kits. Plus it is way more cost effective. My favorite liquid to date is the riskee and cola flavors from Puresmoker: PureSmoker.com - Your #1 Source For PV's, Parts, & Accessories!. My recommendation is to get a little higher nicotine (nic) strength because you can always dilute it with USP glycerin that you can get at a drug store for $5 or $6. I use 24mg nic strength. The highest is 36mg and there is also 18, 11, 6 and 0. I also thought I would like the tobacco flavors the best, but in most cases, IMO, they don’t taste that similar to real tobacco. I do know that some forum members love e-smokey treats tobacco flavor, however.

Hope this helps and good luck.

PS: the smallest bottle of liquid is 10ml and usually costs $9.99. In general (everyone is different) you should get any where from 5-14 days out of that size bottle. And if you purchase from e-smokey treats, he usually does 10 cartridges instead of 5 which would give you another 5-10 days of vaping. In addition, you can wash out the fabric in the pre-filled cartridges and reuse them. The fabric is simply polyester batting which you can get enough for a year's worth for about $5 from Wal-Mart.

In the beginning I have found it very tough to find answers to find somthing too Rhonda. There is alot of personal opinions that you can read for days. The best way would be to go to the cigarette review Videos and look at specific models and then it will be easier to make a decision. Good luck!
