depends on how you count it....i used to work at a restaurant with a bar and i'd go to the bar on the weekend with mine, before you know it everyone was vaping, but i think some people went back to smoking

two of my ex gf's i had on them, she went back to smoking and then back to the ecig...not sure where she is now

my brother was on them for awhile but went back to smoking, i had a few of his friends converted too

another friend of mine was on the rail, then i showed up my collection and now he's spent a ton of his income on the stuff

i find it really depends on how far ppl delve into it, they are good with them until juice needs to be repurchased or coils start going bad, they have to be fully invested in order to really keep vaping from what i've seen....my brothers pens broke and i've seen him break tanks and totally quit for a few weeks until he goes to the local store...it also depends greatly on how ppl feel about buying stuff on-line too

Wow, this is a sore spot for me.

My brother and sister-in-law tried ecigs at my urging, but switch off with cigarettes. Some good friends of mine still smoke very heavily and I am worried for their long-term health, but they won't even consider e-cigs. Maybe in their own time, I hope.

I am not 'pushy' in any way, but I have successfully (and finally) quit through vaping, and my excitement about it is difficult to hide.
VERY, VERY frustrating, though, when you have the PROOF, but people that are close to you are not buying it......VERY FRUSTRATING!!
I have never been an 'evangelist' or anything close, but cigarettes are really an insidious EVIL and a bloody curse.

You really have a good point here. As soon as people experience a little frustration, they tend to pack it in. I have seen it also.

Yeah. I've had this problem too. Once people have to buy coils or more juice they lose interest. Just easier to go to the store and buy a pack of smokes.

18 so far. A few of them are dual. One has kicked both. I ran into a fellow vaper at a party few weeks ago. She asked if I felt ever embarrassed vaping in public. I said, does it look like it? She disappeared a few minutes and came back with hers. Before the night was over I think everybody there tried ours. I'm sort of a germ a phob but sometimes you just gotta take one for the team.

I converted my mom. She quit cig's like 10 years ago. But has diabetes and loves to have those sweets (pies, cupcakes, cookies etc). I gave her my old 2 mods and tanks, chargers and she now orders 0 nic fruity/cake kinda stuff to try and keep her cravings for high sugar sweets to a minimum. As she is human she still has some once in a while, but she has said that vaping has helped her alot to curve her cravings for sweets.

Sometimes in public, I go outside to vape with the smokers. Always a conversation starts up. I don't know if I've converted any of them, but using myself as an example... I NEVER wanted to quit.. I was one of them.. the people who enjoy smoking. I only quit because me and the wife quit together a couple of years back for our daughters sake, and after 3 years of quit, I went back. It only took one, and I always wanted one, the whole time I had quit, I sorely missed it. So I started smoking secretly, then it eventually came out. I tried to quit again and again, but apparently the 2nd time quitting is 20x harder than even the first. I felt like a jerk and a loser- I let my wife down, who still to this day hasn't started back up.

So, I know these people, they are MY people... but when the conversation comes up, I hear the most stupid excuses like:

"I heard ecigs are dangerous"

Really???? And analogs aren't?!? I hate that statement more than any other.

"I heard they aren't very good"
"heard they don't work"
"heard they are going to ban them soon"

All of this "I heard" crap just destroys me because anyone who knows psychology would understand- they've already concluded it isn't for them, without ever even trying it- just closed minds. All the logical argument in the world won't convince them. I have offered people to try mine, and a few have, but I've noticed that those with predispositions will immediately pretend-gag and complain it tastes crappy or whatever.

I try not to be the smoking nazi, I remember how much I hated them when I was a smoker, and I don't push them, but my gosh people can be their own worst enemies.

Converted? To Calmerism? Thousands.

;)

Converted from smoking to vaping? None, unless I have unknowingly influenced someone online in that regard.

I want more than anything to go out into the world and teach the truth about vaping to others, and save some lives by convincing them to use vaping to transition off of smoking. But being unable to leave my house except to walk around my yard and woods, I don't have the access necessary to accomplish such a thing.

I'm not that far in, but something that I'm consciously keeping in mind:
a.) People talking about their obsessive hobby is frequently annoying
b.) Ex-smokers talking to smokers about quitting is doubly annoying

Unfortunately vaping can compound this. I've also found that a certain number of vape shops take advantage of vapers' enthusiasm to get away with hard-selling like crazy; there are a few shops I've been to that would have turned me off permanently, if I hadn't gotten my gear from a guy that was the perfect sales-person for me in several ways. (...and I wouldn't want someone to go and get taken in by one of these. The co-worker that got me curious about vaping was convinced that you have to spend $150+ right at the start, because the shop guy sold him on it; of course he didn't stop there.)

I did talk to a neighbor that I talk to when smoking about it. He asked a bit about it, but when I offered (in a way that signaled the end of the conversation) to share what I've learned and said that I wouldn't push it like some people, he relaxed and started talking about how annoying vaping converts can be.

I don't say this to tell anyone to do, or not do anything (and certainly don't mean any offense), but it should be kept in mind that it's a really fine line between talking and preaching, and suggesting a non-trivial time and money investment. I had a financial motive for getting my first ecig when I did, but I was pretty skeptical that I would be able to quit as quickly as I did (and I did primarily because of my proclivity toward obsessive hobbies and affinity for new ways to stimulate my taste and smell). It seems like vaping is approaching critical mass, and that makes it extra important to consider how vaping (and vapers) are seen, and be careful about things like trying to 'convert.' It's taken several years to learn to temper my enthusiasm for my main hobby, and I still occasionally find myself in awkward situations where I either go overboard, or get anxious from trying too hard not to go overboard -- both of which generally happen when someone shows real interest in getting into it themselves, because it's easy to overwhelm them with info and sour the experience, no matter how enthusiastic they are.

This is a very informative post. Maybe it explains why I was unsuccessful in spreading the vaping gospel.
