Sure you can. Problem is, the world then produces a better idiot
Fact is, we can't completely idiot proof everything
I'm like Robin, until I came here I didn't know anything about battery safety.
Everything I own runs on batteries--I carry a GPS on my person all the time--a GPS locater plus a couple of radios--a cell phone and a laptop in the truck and I don't know what all else.
I used to grab a hand full of AA's and AAA's and just put them in my pocket loose. Along with a pocket full of change for the Timmy's drive-thru, a pocket knife and maybe a couple of 30-30 shells.
I guess I've just been lucky I haven't set myself on fire--I guess the good lord must look after us fools and drunks!
Did I mention I work as a safety officer on a logging crew?
Was supposed to have a team meeting today to discuss 'slips and falls'.
I think I'll change the topic.
People like this are why you can't buy a cup of hot coffee in the US without a warning label on it. Maybe I'm special, but when I order a hot coffee, I have the suspicion that it is going to be hot.

Lol
Me too.
And opening said cup of hot coffee over my crotch to add sugar and creamer, while sitting in a car, is double-straight jacket padded cell crazy.
In 100 years aliens will find a copy of "Idiocracy" and think it was a documentary.
I dont want to live on this planet anymore.....
Looks should have nothing to do with what you think of somebody, it makes you look low saying that.

In all honesty though I dont believe this happened. 1st i dont believe somebody would just happen to have 2 unwrapped batts let alone 1. 2nd this just happens when youre around and not the whole time he had it in his pocket before you were there. An unwrapped battery would of most likely shorted out in his mod. I cant believe somebody would be that stupid and ive met tons of really dumb people.
Good story though.

A safety meeting on my job usually lasts about 15 minutes and everybody hates them--especially if your discussing something like 'slip and falls'.
I changed the topic today to battery safety and the meeting went for over an hour.
My crew Iam happy to report are way more knowledgeable than me. Of course they are used to jump starting big logging machinery some of which have 24 and 30 volt systems. It seems everyone except me has seen very big batteries vent, burn and even explode.
I guess the double AA and Triple AAA batts I use for some things aren't too much of a problem but the Lithium 18650's and such are a completely different matter.
Anyway it was a pretty good meeting and I got 4 of us on the crew now who are into vaping and a few more thinkin about it.

What seems like common sense to me is apparently NOT for some.
Common sense to me says that anything which stores energy and has an exposed positive and negative terminal shouldn't me thrown into a situation where said terminals can come in contact with something conductive.
I'm all for battery safety, and I know where vaping is concerned, battery safety can be a confusing subject.....but come on. Isn't this common sense? Or am I being too critical of those who aren't considered "mechanically inclined"?
Fact is, we can't completely idiot proof everything. There will always be that one person who's stupidity challenges all reasonable explanation, no matter how simple you make things.
I do so agree with you.
My vape gear is just like tools........they aren't show pieces. Never have been into that. But that doesn't mean they aren't tested, cleaned, and working properly.
The ONLY time I ever had a problem with batteries was from a vendor here who threw 4 "loose" batteries into a padded envelope and mailed them to me, jangling around inside the envelope, with zero protection on the ends. When I wrote that I was unhappy to receive this package, not to mention that it went on an airplane to get to me, the vendor tried to "school" me about how lithium batts weren't all that dangerous like I thought.![]()
@roxynoodle: ONE DAY this company WILL get sued, and I will be on the side of the person who is doing the suing.
It did occur to me to report them to their USPS carrier, because they are putting personnel at risk IMHO shipping that way.
Lately I've also had glass bottles shipped to me not in a box but in a thin bubble envelope. 30ml glass bottles.
It's pretty sad when the customers have to teach the people they are buying things from how to ship their products.
