I am a trainer for a company based in Dallas providing call centre software. I am of course based here in Australia and typically train right across the APAC region, particularly Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, India & Thailand. Absolutely love what I do. Prior to that installed Avaya phone systems, before that, 10 years in the music industry as a sound & lighting tech and before that I made a living making cakes and desserts. Quite a varied career path, but definitely interesting.

These threads always end up being a great read. It is quite interesting discovering what other people do for a living :)

I am a Registered Veterinary Technician. I work overnights in the ER/ICU (Critical Care) at a large multi-specialty hospital. I can't smoke on the floor obviously! But I do stealth-vape on my breaks in our upstairs break room. Since all the admin people are not there at night no one bothers me :) It's so so nice to not have to take 10 min out of my 30min break to run outside and smoke. I've also stealth-vaped in the bathroom a few times when I've had a particularly stressful night and just needed a few puffs!

Wide range, but there seems to be a disproportional number of IT people floating around. I wonder if that's because IT people are more likely to be on forums in general, or if the whole gadget aspect of vaping tends to attract IT people...

Anyway, mark up one more. I'm a database administrator in healthcare. I work in a hospital transplant clinic, and we handle heart, lung, liver, and kidney transplants, so I'm around lots of compromised patients. I hated smelling like smoke around any patients. My co-workers (all healthcare pros, not IT people) didn't like it, but it was the patients that I really worried about smelling the smoke on me. Very glad to not have to worry about that anymore.

My office is away from patients, but we're dealing with a physical space crunch (we're growing quickly), so I work in close proximity with two other people, just outside the big boss's office door. I asked if the people immediately around me minded, and I demonstrated it. They said they didn't mind, so I vape at my desk. Never got official permission, but did check with those immediately around me.

Every once in a while I still step outside, for social reasons and just to get out of the office for a few minutes. No one has said a word to me about it.

I also learned that one patient was allowed to vape by the nurses in his room. There's no official policy either way, so if the doctors and nurses are ok with it, patients have been allowed to do it.

I know that some of our in-patients have been given the inhalers from big pharma, so I don't really see a difference...

Hmmm... maybe I should change my location, just so I don't draw unwanted attention to myself or my hospital... Oh well...

Ha - just had that exact thought right before I came to your post.

lol! Interesting observation. I'd say yes, you're going to get more IT people on forums and yes, IT people love to tinker with stuff.

I'm a nursing student and since I started on my e-cig during the summer, I am not sure how it'll affect me once classes start up again. I know a few of my former professors would have been completely supportive and allowed me to vape in class. One of my past professors will be getting a packet of information from me in the fall because she wants to have her son try e-cigs.

I'm a mostly stay at home mom due to several relocations (DH is Chem Eng), formerly in investments and trusts/estates, professional idiot volunteer, clean model homes for a local builder and sell foodstuff with a direct sales company.

Oh - and I vape at home INSIDE which is huge to me - I've never smoked in our home. DH (never smoked) doesn't even mind if I vape in the car with him. I'm on time more often now too, because I'm not saying "let me finish this smoke first"!

I too am fascinated by the different backgrounds found here!

PS: Punkflute - I'm in your neck of the woods!

I'm a veterinary assistant. Sometimes we get so busy with appointments, surgeries, and emergencies I don't get a break. When I smoked analogs, it made for a pretty rough time on days like that. I had to steal 2 minutes between appointments to suck down a cigarette as fast as I could. Then I constantly worried about how I enrolled being in a small exam room with clients.
I'm able to vape at work freely. I don't do it in front of clients or in surgery. Its made a busy work day so much more bearable and me not so cranky. At least if I'm working through my lunch break, I still get my nicotine fix.

I climb stuff. Telephone poles 4 days a week as a system tech for a large communications company. Mountains, routes, and peaks the other three days. (Also throw mountain biking into the mix as well) Been vaping and completely off tobacco since February this year. The transition from tobacco has been a nice life changing event for sure.

No wonder we get along, I used to hit a few sticks in my day too. I spent 25 years with the phone company and various cable construction companies. I then fulfilled my life long dream, spending my last 10 years working on a commercial fishing boat in the Bering Sea out of Dutch Harbor. I am now retired and a Manny for my grandkids and spend most of my time on the computer doing genealogy research and lately testing all the PV's I can afford to buy. lol:vapor:
