I've been house-sitting for a friend for the last few days. She has 2 dogs, 5 cats, an iguana, 2 geckos and lots of crickets that she feeds to the geckos. I hate crickets. They jump and you never know when or where they are going to jump. Hate um!

Night before last I went to bed, read for awhile then turned out the light and just as I was falling asleep I heard a cricket. My heart thumped & my pulse raced. I turned on the light, grabbed my slipper and held it over my head like it was a club. I waited and listened but didn't hear it anymore so I looked around until I finally spotted it silently watching me. It was perched on a pillow beside my bed. I just about crapped myself. I slammed it with my slipper and knocked it to the floor but it was still moving so I slammed it again, and again but it wouldn't stop moving. By now the adrenaline was really pumping so I slammed it again and pressed down hard and ground it into the carpet. Deed was done. I kilt it. Only then could I go back to sleep.

I know it sounds silly being afraid of crickets but this one was HUGE, at least an inch long. 8-o I'm an animal lover, not an insect lover. I hate crickets. :facepalm:

OMG!!! I am sorry but that is so funny!!!! If that was a spider then yep it would be mush!!!!

I love crickets..outside in the woods, not near me! We have these big ugly yellow grasshoppers that are giant size...they will spit "tobacco" at you if you come near. I run screaming into the night when I see one!

Gross!!!!

They sure are ! They are also quite pretty if you can get past the gross/bug thing !

We have some beatles here that are very pretty but....YUCK!!!

Wow, that thing could be a pet!! lol

:lol::lol:

my son would want one to have as a pet... he's a bug kid lol he collects teh grasshoppers on the lawn in his bug box for an hour a day then lets them all go...

We used to catch fireflies and put them in a mason jar, they looked so cool!!! We let them go before we went to bed :)

Ha ha, sounds like me - I can't go to sleep with a fly in the house until I've found it and killed it. I think they get in through the doggie door.

Two years ago, San Diego County had an unusual amount of flies in the late summer - even hit the news broadcasts. You couldn't find a fly strip or trap anywhere. I don't usually use pesticides in my house, but I did find a kitchen pantry spray that I had to use. My daughter has her own housekeeping business and said that quite a few ppl were complaining about finding maggots on their floors. Eeeew, so gross. And that's why I can't go to sleep until I've checked and killed all flies (if any).
