So the UK has banned smoking in cars that are carrying children (under 18's)

Make what you will of the ban (preferably in another thread)

What I find interesting and positive is that they DIDN'T include e-cigs in this new legislation!

The enlightend approach is to make ecig restrictions less harsh in order to encourage people to switch. What should happen on college campuses that want smoke free grounds is to not include ecigs in the new restrictions specifically to encourage the smokers to pick one up for when they are on the campus. A percentage of them would end up quitting, a real benefit to their time at college.

I have a couple of part time employees who smoke. I'm going to tell them I merely prefer they don't smoke when I'm paying them and I'm providing free vaping supplies, devices and liquid for use at work. (I'll even require that they must leave the devices at work.) I just started DIY. It works out to 2.5 cents per ml so the program is affordable. If it doesn't work I haven't lost much.

It's been the law in California for years.

OK, but my point is they have made the decision NOT to ban e-cig usage in cars with children.

I think it's a positive sign that the UK doesn't feel the need to bundle e-cigs into this law relating to smoking.

Wonder when there will be a law that you can't drink in your home if you have a minor child.

Give it time. There's someone somewhere who thinks that would be a logical step in the right direction. I will just continue with my philosophy when it comes to the government and their socially influenced useless laws,"Try and catch me."

Wish that was a law...would have made my childhood a whole lot better!

No it wouldn't have. Someone gripped by alcoholism wouldn't have stopped because of a law. I'm sorry that you had to go through it but looking to the government for help in that type of situation wouldn't have made a difference.

Look at people who use drugs around children, they're all doing something illegal but don't care because of the grip of their addiction.

I woudl submit that may be a case for selective parenting. No offense of course to you. Sad part is you would not be with us. I firmly believe not everyone is suited to parenthood. Just because one can have a kid doesn't mean they should.

My wife is/was a teacher. It is amazing what some of these parents do to their kids.

Raises hand. I decided a long time ago that if I have trouble keeping my life straight the last thing I should be given is control over another one. I don't consider myself a bad person just not parent material, but people who know me would emphatically state that I would be good at it. So I split it 50/50 I will raise beings in my life but they have paws and drink and eat out of bowls on the floor. :)

Hey man much respect for that.

When you come from a 12 hour day at work and your wife is sitting on the couch with a glass of wine and tears streaming down her face. When asked what is wrong, she finally opens up that one her students was punished by her mom. The punishment was having each finger used to put out the mom's cigarette butts. One would figure the state woudl step in. Nope. Not sure which is more useless the state government or the federal government.

BTW.. my brother in law made the same choice as you. He doesn't have the patience for kids of his. I do have to say he is great with nieces.

That's horrible. I'd never hurt a child but even that's not a "go-ahead" to have one. I would never break my arm patting myself on the back, but I'd like to see this world if more people shared my opinion of looking inward and then deciding in a "come to Jesus" meeting about how good of a parent they'd actually be.
