Well according to the date on my last post, it's 2011 here, but I do live in a home built in 1950, with mid-century furnishings, and we go on road trips in our 1966 Plymouth Fury, so you aren't too far off. It was a beautiful night at the drive-in tonight.
Our nearest drive-in movie theatre is 25 miles away, and then the next closest is a little over an hour's drive from where we live. That one only charges $2 per person for a double-feature of first run movies, and it still plays the old intermission trailers with the juggling popcorn and leaping hotdog. It's a beautiful sight. We go frequently during the season and even plan our road trips so well be staying the night in towns with a drive-in.
A lot of people don't realize how close they live to a drive-in. If you are interested you can go to this link:
Drive-ins.com - Drive-in Theater Database you can search by state or zip code for the drive-in theatre nearest you. I use the zip code search; be sure to click in the OPEN circle to only find the drive-ins currently in operation; in other words, the ones that have not closed for good (although they may be closed for the season). You can also look up ones that have closed by either searching for ALL, or just CLOSED ones. Each drive-in has its own page with contact information and they usually have a link to the theatres website. I use this site all the time.
Btw, if you go to one, be sure to visit the concession stand; thats really the only way they make money to stay afloat. They hardly make any money from ticket sales because the movie studios take the majority of that. If we dont want all the drive-ins to disappear, we have to go and support the concession stand. I love watching movies under the stars.
