For not much more than the cost of a multimeter, you could buy a cheap vv tube mod like a Vamo. It has the capability to check resistance, check battery life, and it could serve as a backup device as well. Either way, you should have some way to check the resistance of your builds before putting them on the REO - without it, you're flying blind. A regulated device will refuse to fire it and/or give you an error message if you built a short into it or the RBA itself is defective/broken - the REO will simply collapse the spring, as it's designed and intended.
It's about like trying to fix a car by replacing every part in the engine until you find the defective one vs. using an OBD reader which will usually pinpoint the problem immediately. Both ways will work (eventually) and both ways will require some cash outlay, but one is a lot more frustrating and labor intensive. You can keep building blind and replacing springs over and over until you figure out what the issue is, or you can use a multimeter or regulated device to check them first so you don't keep melting springs.

So, Vapeaddikt, did the rules tell you to take the nice one out? I love cars, as long as they are 4x4 and can go on safari.
