So this is all through my friend's shop. His lathe is old and their machinist doesn't think it will handle it. My friend is contacting another shop with automated mills. We will see how it turns out. Hopefully not too costly. If it had been aluminum, I could have made it today but because I am using 304, they said it would be too hard. I'll keep everyone updated because I might have about ten after the I finish prototyping. I have three friends who want one already so that is seven left over. I might also end up making more. I am going to PM raidy and make sure everything is ok.

I read more about O ring grooves than anyone should ever be subjected to and concluded,,,
It's just like golf. Just Grip and Rip it.
Cut, test the fit, cut some more, test again, cut more, test one more time, Damn it,, start all over.

Gummy Bear you’re hilarious. That’s funny :D

It's now confirmed: After studying many posts and knowing the history of one hard-smoking, hard drinking PGA tour member I can see now that Gummy Bear is actually John Daly using this forum as a base of operations to turn Ecig vaping and Golf into some sort of NASCAR-like events. If I see John vaping on camera this golf season it will remove all doubt.

LOL :D

My current model which I hope to have produced. We will see what happens with that.

The ones that are dimensioned are only in clear for the sake of dimensioning. I have all the pieces I just need to figure out when/where I'm going to get it made. I am using 304 SS for the center post. The only thing that I see that might be a problem is the tolerance between the insulator for the POS terminal and the O ring groove which won't be a problem if there is a hole there because I will be filling it with food safe silicone to insulate. The silicone is rated to 400 degrees F. As it sits it will hold about 2.4mL. I may have to make the center post larger which will make the liquid storage about 2.1mL.

Well I made two. The first one I made was the first thing I have ever made on a metal lathe. I made it from aluminum, used it once and started making one out of 304 stainless. I finished it today but I can't seem to get it to vape properly. It's not too harsh but it has a semi metallic taste. I believe the wick is shorting even though I oxidized it. I see small sparks from the mesh to the kanthal. Is that because I am using the top cap as the negative terminal connection and it is shorting where the mesh accesses the liquid?

I'll post pictures later.

Thanks scuba and bstedh!

Is that the same stuff used in atomizers?

Has anyone looked into quartz cloth? It is for extremely high temp situations like 2700°F continuous and above 3000 for short periods of time.

Edit: a link to quartz cloth.

Its silica cloth, silica is nothing more than all-glass fiber. Nothing special. a.k.a. fiberglass cloth with no fillers. It would work to insulate the ss mesh.

"the most common constituent of sand in inland continental settings and non-tropical coastal settings is silica (silicon dioxide, or SiO2), usually in the form of quartz." Yes, glass is silica....those are fiberglass. Fiberglass, sand, quartz, silica, sio2, are interchangeable to an extent. fiberglass can contain binders/impurities, quartz can have impurities, silica is si02.
