Actually the spring tesion does not need to be great if you single wrap around the post, the spring will just keep the wire pressed against the post head. Gathering supplies to test this out.
Dan

Great idea Dan. I would love to see what parts you are getting to set this up. I have tried so many things on my Genisis and not happy with anything yet. But your idea here with springs is a great idea. I like it a lot and it will be easy and trouble free.
Thanks Dan

Nice let me know how this goes. I would think this could be done with the right sized washer, a spring, and a bolt.

as of now my plans are to use a set screw with two nuts as a negative terminal, and an O terminal with a small nut and bolt through it as a positive. I'm about done with my cad drawing. Depending on when I'm off work it might be posted tonight. Thanks everyone.

Hey what do yall think about this as an idea for a quick connect/disconnect terminal. No tools needed to connect the coil wire, just push the bushing down and wrap the coil wire around once and release. The spring holds tension against the coil wire. Could be made in any size.

Looks good Dan.

How about a tiny hole through the screw, up top right below the head of the screw.

Then you just push the bushing down stick the wire through the hole and let the bushing go.

You could wrap it around the screw also.

Maybe overkill, just a thought though. :D

I thought of that but trying too but then I thought about all the old farts like me sitting around trying to thread a needle. Not to mention trying to drill a hole in that small of a rod. I was liooking at a 1mm rod about 5mm tall. Have a request into two companies for springs @ 1mm ID, 2mm OD 5mm Long. So we shall see if I can make this :)

I think I'll try acrylic. I want it to be clear, polycarb would be expensive for the top cap. Thanks everyone. I've been beat from doing work maybe tonight I'll finish my drawing and post some render pics. Trying to see the machinist/teacher thursday.

Akya im sure its gonna come out sweet man. So many different versions of the Genisis now. Cant wait to see it when its done.

v3 of my GEN design will be a 4 piece unit. The main body, a poly tube for the main body, a poly tube for the atomizing chamber and, a drip tip cap for the atomizing chamber. This way I can pull the top off of it and gain access to the coil without pulling the whole thing apart. v1 & v2 were 3 piece designs that must be broken down to change the coil. So if I add two orings to the top section with an 1/8" gap I can slide the first piece down to the base and have the liquid chamber seperate from the atomizing chamber. i.e.

SCUBA GEN V3_2.jpgSCUBA GEN V3_1.jpg

Hope the visual helps,

BTW, I ordered 7/8 OD aluminum stock, and 7/8 OD and 3/4 ID poly tubing (Lexan), all the internal pieces are lathed to .73" and the o-ring grooves are then lathed to .64". I am using 3/4" x 1/16" FDA approved o-rings from MCMaster-Carr. The air channel down the center is a .2" (13/64") hole.

I can throw up a diagram of all the measurments if yall want.

Dan 4 piece sounds great. fantastic idea for easy access to the coil. Did ya get the tiny springs yet? if so How ya making out with it? Right now on mine i am using 18 guage syringe pieces to go thru the kanthal or nickochrome and then sliding it over the silver wire coming out of the tube. BUT its a real pain in the ..... cant wait to see what you come up with.
anyway Dan great job on your 4 piece easy to get at coil genisis lol.

That is pretty much what I have. I am using 3/4" OD 5/8" ID polycarbonate. 5/8" 304 SS 4 piece was much easier to design. Making a mouth piece that is comfortable and with the right hole size seemed like a chore. This is my pretty much finished CAD drawing. The screw is the negative terminal. The positive will be a 22 gauge solid copper wire coming up through the center with a high temp ring terminal. The terminal will have a screw through it with two nuts.

Maybe later I'll make more pics. I still have to detail it all and I haven't placed an air hole.

Only thing I see is with dual orings is when you actually want to pull it apart you are going to fight to get it apart. The first one I made I wanted the orings tight, so no leakage. Well it was tight and darn near impossible to get apart.
just my 2 cents.
