I've seen that a lot on the forums. How's the water temp on that? I've herd it gets hotter then 120f even when the heater is not used.

Starting with room temp water it will reach 50C after about 50 minutes, but it doesnt generally rise any higher that for the duration of the 99 minute cycle unless I have the water level very low. If I am running at low water levels I will go for a 45 minute cycle and then add some cold water and start it again.

I rarely use the heater unless it is for something other than juice. Really, the heater in it is rather lethargic anyway. It is a 100w heater but it takes forever to heat up if the ultrasonic isnt running.

I'll be honest guys, I feel a bit silly for not thinking of just using hot water if needed! I think I might get the one Ld3441 posted.. Seems pretty good!
Anyone know of it is quality made? Ld3441, do you have this model?

I was thinking if it's just plain heat that's responsible for speed steeping. The ultrasonic waves speed up the molecules in the water thereby producing heat. Maybe i'll do an experiment of using cold water in the uc and compare times with plain hot water steeping.

The only other thing I'm looking at now is, this one has 60 watts (which it says is powerful as others typically have 30 watts) but this one on amazon says it is 135 watts? What is the difference?

I did just order the one on eBay and I am pretty happy with my decision, but kind of curious about the wattage now..

The Amazon one is "135W including the heater" and it doesnt really say how much many watts the tranducer(s) is, probably 35w though. Actually neither one specifically states the transducer power. The eBay ad is just as vague.

This is from an early post I did on the topic:
Be careful about wattage specs, many units will say "200 watts" (or whatever) but what it really means is a "total" of 200w for both the transducer and the heater. Look for the "transducer" spec! There will be a spec for the Frequency (usually 42khz), the wattage of the ultrasonic transducers, and the wattage of the heater. The one you are most concerned with is the transducer wattage. For example my latest unit is a 3 liter 220w model with a 99 minuter timer. It has two 60w transducers and a 100w heater. I have seen 250w models which at first glance sound more powerful but that were really a single 50w transducer and 200w heater. This would be much less effective for our intended use. In our application we care about the transducer wattage much more than the heat. I find that if I start with hot water I dont need any heat at all as the operation of the unit generates plenty enough heat all on its own. shop for the most transducer power you can afford, even if it doesnt have any heat. The small cheap ones usually have a 35w or less transducer, and are also less efficient in design, ie the use of plastic etc, but they will work, it just takes longer than a fancier model.

Good to know. 122F is not bad for 99min of continious run time. 99min is quite a benefit time wise.

You are correct. I don't think getting a unit with a heater is really nessessary if you start with hot water. The only time I use it is for my first cycle and in between cycles if the water cools down.

The one on eBay doesn't have a heater - would it stand to reason that all 60w are for the transducer power?

It's a very heavy industrial transducer. I also am not sure of the wattage but I've had mine 6 months and it has worked great thus far.

Are the baskets on these removable for cleaning and disinfecting when switching back and forth between juice and vitiman c? Or are you doing the vitamin c in bottles like the juice? The one vid I have seen the guy put the vit c mix right in the basket to mix.

Sorry for the late response, I had to go to work.

Yes, I do have this model and it works great. The basket is also removable. I don't start with hot water, I just use room temp. and it heats pretty fast. After a 30 minute cycle it needs to cool a bit. I haven't checked the exact temp. I steep my juices 30 minutes on and 30 minutes off for 4 hours. I then let them sit for 1 week and they have all been great.

I am very happy with the unit I bought. YMMV

The vitamin c mix goes directly into the tank. When I'm finished I thoroughly clean/disinfect the tank.

For steeping in an ultrasonic cleaner, do you leave the bottle closed? (Iknow dumb question) Also, are the certain 'specs' I should look for in a good cleaner?
Thank you

Steep with cap on

Air with cap off after steep is done and only about 24 hours. and only if nessessary.

If you search through this thread you will find many links to good UC's. The one below is similure to what I use.
