Ive heard that steeping nicotine in heat is not good. can anyone confirm or deny. That is the reason i havnt used the heated function on mine yet.

Warmth is good for steeping and helps the maturing process. Boiling or microwaving is bad and burns the juice. Giving it a bath in hot tap water or turning on the heat in your UC for only the first cycle is good and it will remain at just the right warmth through the rest of the cycles with no heat turned on because the UC wave action will generate it's own heat. If you don't have heat on your UC just add hot tap water. The idea is to gently warm the juice and not expose it to a big blast of heat. Just don't go over 125F and you'll be fine. Most UC's don't exceed 125 on the low setting so you'll be fine. If it has only one setting it's most likly a low setting so just stick an oven thurmomitor in to be shure.

I've been following this thread for some time and I finally decided to buy an ultrasonic cleaner. I got the larger one from harbor freight. It will hold 6 125ml nalgene wide mouth bottles that I get at the Container Store for mixing larger batches of juice, or about 10 of the smaller square 60ml bottles. I will be butting my first batch of "fast steeped" juices in it tomorrow, after I finish making them tonight.
Hopefully they will steep good enough to be ready to vape on Saturday evening at the Northern Virginia vape meet I'm going to...

thanks for this great thread, and I'll be sure to let y'all know how my juices turn out. I've got two NETs, a complex RY4 variant, a raspberry-Bavarian cream juice and a jasmine tea juice made from my own home-made extract. These flavored normally take 2-3 weeks to be vapable--I'm hoping this works to make them vapable in 2 days instead... ;-)

If your really going to pack the UC full with juice give it some extra time maybe 5 - 6 hours should do it. Keep the water warm to about 125F. It should be ready for Saturday.

This is a2.5liter unit. I have 3 125ml bottles and 2 60ml bottles in it. It is less than half full, so I don't think I'll need a lot of extra time. I'm going to give it 4 hours--1 Thursday, 2 Friday, and 1 Saturday, changing the water each day, with new hot water starting each hour. I think that will work.

Test vaping will commence tonight after the 3rd hour is complete. I'll be sure to report...

Hi vikky,

I used to use 100ml plastic bottles but switched to glass after I read this:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/348635-steeping-times-ultrasonic-cleaner-part-iii-19.html#post9074232

I believe the bag, even more so than plastic bottles, might neutralize the effects of the cleaner. If your bottle caps are screwed on tight, and you rubber band 'em together so they don't tip over, you're not going to get any of the water from the cleaner in the bottles and "contaminate" the e-liquid.

Vape On.

Oh now that is something I never considered...

I'm using nalgene 125 wide mouth bottles. I guess I need to consider glass jars instead. What sort of glass containers do you use bobalex? 30ml dropper bottles or half pint mason jars?

My unit has a max of 8 minute cycles, so to get an hour of ultrasonic voodoo I run 8 cycles.

It's hard to keep track by memory with chores and phone calls and such, so I put a piece of painters tape on the lid of the USC and mark it with a hash mark every time I start an 8 min cycle. That makes it easy to keep track of how many cycles I've run and when I start a new batch I just replace the tape with a new strip...

Ok, here is my report. I made 5 new juices on Wednesday--all of which have in the past required at minimum 1week of steep time to taste right, and more to really peak.

One is a raspberry/Bavarian cream, one is made from my own jasmine tea extract, one is a really complex RY4/bakery flavor hybrid, and two were pure NETs with no additional sweeteners or flavoring.

I rand them all through 4 series of 8x8minute cycles, for a total USC time of just over 4 hours in the cleaner.

And by sat unsay afternoon, they all tasted like they had been steeping for 2-3 weeks. WOW!!!

I'm sold 100% on the idea of ultrasonic cleaner steeping. It worked like a champ with some VERY complex juices I made. The RY4 hybrid I made has 13 different ingredients, and after just 4 hours in the USC over a period of 2 days, it tastes like ti has been steeping for 2 or 3 weeks...

Every juice I make from now on will get this treatment, without a doubt...

Interesting, i did some testing with a shaker machine (100hz as opposed to ultrasonic frequencies) a while ago and found the results to be.. different. After 10 hours in the shaker the juices didnt taste like freshly made nor steeped nor anything in between but a whole other variation of the flavor. I find it great for fruit flavors because it makes them really bright, not so much on tobacco or sweet flavors. Got to get my hands on an ultrasonic thingy to see how that compares.

Is one of those little shakers for model paint and fingernail polish bottles? I was looking at those before I stumbled onto the ultrasonic idea. I have a few favors that would benefit from a little "brightening"...

It looks like my first UC. It did the job but mine had a 3 minute cycle. There was a whole lot of turning it on again and again and again ...

yeah, I hope it's not a typo. it's in the same price range as most of the ones with 3-8 min cycles, but it says it does a 30 min cycle

edit:
annnnnd I just found it slightly cheaper here, but that doesn't have the free shipping. I looked up the model number of it and it does appear to have up to 30 mins timer (even found a youtube video of it with someone setting it for 10 mins, so it definitely goes higher than 3). Some places online are charging as much as near $80 for the same unit.
