what worked for me was to find an e-juice flavor and atty that closely matches what you are used to smoking. I smoked for 28 years and tried all kinds of ways to quit without luck, but just found a juice that mimmicks marlboro very well and havent smoked in over a month now.

Hi. Would you mind telling us what juice and the vendor for that Marlboro like vape? I need some of that. Thank you.

A cousin of mine recommended Chantix as she went on it and was able to quit. However I am hesitant due to the warnings about adding to depression, suicidal thoughts, etc. I'm already not wrapped too tight and don't need anything to add to it...trying to lol about it

I was on Wellbutrin XR for a long time which is also supposed to make you lose the desire to smoke and it had no affect on me at all. It was given to me for the antidepressant part and not the quit smoking feature. It didn't help me with either issue.

betty

Bettysue, I would be very careful about the Chantix. I took it and had horrible nightmares and it made me feel depressed after a while. It took me almost a month after I stopped it to feel like myself again. The dreams are a common side effect. Talk to your doctor.

Stick with this. I am new here but from my reading and talking to others here, this can work. Remember it is a process. Nobody starts off smoking two packs a day on day one. Stopping may work for you the same way. I find distractions and making the cigarettes less convenient to get to make it a little easier. Stop beating yourself up. Give yourself time. And good thoughts are going out to you.

I wouldn't recommend the patch and vaping either.

My friend was very similar...couldn't give up analogs and started vaping on top of it...he's been analog free for a couple of weeks now by upping his juice to 30mg of nicotine and only smokes tobacco flavors and doesn't go more than 15 minutes without puffing on his e-cig.

For me the worst cravings come when I go more than 30-60 minutes without vaping, after 18 years, my brain is still wired to want a real cigarette. But on day 11 of no cigarettes (only 2 in the last 19 days), those cravings are less intense than day 1-5 and are easier to dispel by smoking my e-cig like a normal cig.

Hope that helps.

For some people its really hard to quit, it might feel almost impossible, but there are ways to beat it. I don't agree with the people here that discourage you from using patches, I had to use chewing-tobacco alongside vaping for a long time, and i think using that was my salvation. For the first 2 years i smoked 3 cigs a day, that was my quota; 1 in the morning, 1 after dinner and 1 in bed. I still smoke 1 a week now with no craving for the rest of the week. Every Sunday I smoke 1 cig, 1 pipe or 1 cigar :)

Have you read this http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/337017-inhalation-technique-e-cigarette.html

I find that holding the vapor in my mouth as long as possible helps. Variable volts such as my ego twists also worked better than the standard ego and cig look-a-likes I tried in the begining.
I don't smoke 2 packs a day anymore but I do smoke some and chain vape alot. Good luck:)

Thank you for the link. I had read it prior to buying my first kit but it served as a great reminder today so I greatly appreciate you posting it!!

thank you,
betty

how are you7 doing today? NO pressure just checking in, with another added thought to share.
Maybe as if youre quitting on a weekend you can toss out the analogues on a night after you've ined up all your fav juices and nic stregth
that works for vape...include a backup batery so you dont get stuck and start a fresh W/E morning only vape gear.

I think I am doing a bit better with the eRoll. I am not coughing like I did with my ego-c so I tend to vape longer each time. There is something about coughing and coughing that deters me from vaping the same length of time that I would smoke an analog.

Thank you so much for checking in to see how I am doing :)

Thank you very much for the great reply :)
I am not bipolar but have major depressive disorder and the wellbutrin XR did nothing for me. I have avoided asking my doctor about Chantix as the warning about it scare me off. I am afraid the risk of getting more depressed and suicidal are too high to make me want to try it.

The last two psychiatrists I went to both prescribed xanax for me (4x a day) in addition to an antidepressant but I never took the xanax as I know it can be very addictive plus it made me sleepy, even the 25mg. My psychiatrist said they wanted me to get drowsy as my anxiety level is so high I needed it. I still wouldn't take it as I am already on morphine twice a day for orthopaedic pain and I didn't want to add a second addiction. I get my antidepressants now from my family doctor even though I know I really should be seeing a psychiatrist.

I am still trying to figure out why I can be in the hospital for two weeks and never crave or want a cigarette, always turn down the nicotine patches they offered me daily but as soon as I check out and get in the car I can't light up soon enough.

My doctor has tried prescribing several different sleep medications for me and none of them have worked, if anything they did the opposite which is not uncommon for me. There are several medications that I have reverse reactions with. One example is Valium. A dentist had to pull a couple of teeth a few years ago so he gave me a prescription for Valium along with the instruction to being someone with me to the appointment as I would be too groggy to drive. I was supposed to take two pills prior to my appointment which I did. I became so hyper that I couldn't sit still. When I got in his office they told me to try taking another one, so I took the third pill which made me even more hyper. So I had to have the teeth pulled without the benefit of the Valium.

Please don't worry about the length of your reply as I found it very informative. I guess I shoudl apologize for the length of my reply to your reply...lol

thank you,
betty

Hope the eroll works for you. As a sidenote: welbutrin elevated certain neuro-chemicals that help fight depression. The nicotine elevates certain neuro receptors and chemicals. The welbutrine works decent for ppl without certain types of depression or bipolar. Also the generic welbutrin does not do the same thing for some reason. In clinical studies done in 2002, using welbutrine to treat depression or with ppl have bipolar the nicotine cancels out the welbutrine's effectiveness. Most dr will recommend quit smoking and will use chantix to help. It does not effect patients on welbutrin.

Also ask your dr for a medication with sleep. Ppl who have depression worsened by anxiety, stress and other items easily (commonly associated with pdsd) usually are not getting proper sleep cycles and this does help. I too have gone through this and am trying to quit the smoking. May see if somebody here has an eroll to try if it works for you. Having pdsd, bipolar with severe depression myself and smoking about 3.5 to 4.5 pad and using the pv and now down to 1 pad myself. Check with your medical because many do cover quit smoking assistance and these groups do have a dr to talk with yours about combining. I had quit smoking in 2009 with the nicotrol inhaler and nic patch along with a 12mg nic ecig (cigalike). I could not keep the level 1 patch going and was lowered in a generic fashion and after getting through all 3 levels of the patch began smoking again. The Texas state medicaid would not cover any further with the patch and the nicotrol inhaler was not enough nicotine.

Don't worry about ppl that act all high and mighty. I have seen that type in quit smoking groups and even in AA and NA and they always do well for a while (even a year or two) then fail and wonder why nobody helps them. Hate that type of person.

I am also going through a home course offered by RU (reformer's anonomous) (sorry about spelling) and it is helping a lot also. If I find somebody selling this course cheap, will send the link in pm for you. My pastor bought this one for me. Tried clippers and they were way too strong so I bought my own stuffer unit and loose whole tobacco and made my own. Cant do that where i am now though. Even $11 is too much money for something harmful to our body. Let us know how the eroll does. Sorry for the long reply too.

Yep, remember first time given xanax and it didn't make me tired but instead made me a zombie...hated that. Will say one thing about it - i didn't smoke as much but did light up cigarettes and just watched them burn. Lol

Ambien was the only sleep med that got me to sleep. Took it and about 30 minutes felt like I was drunk and fell asleep. The extended release one did absolutely nothing but make my mind race - did not sleep at all. Another one increased my anxiety. I now take the otc sleep aid: Melatonin by natrol. It is a disolvable type sold at Walmart. I still get anxiety but after about 15 - 20 min i get a little dizzy and go to sleep.

What we must remember is that those of us with depression use smoking (nicotine) as a medication. It helps against the depression and acts like a vice to the anxiety (same way as those smoking when stressed).

Glad to hear the eroll is helping. Just a note about chantix: yes, in a few cases were reported of increased depression and suicidal thoughts. These were all by those under-medicated. Typically quit smoking advocates with ppl who have depression or bipolar suggest having anti-depressants increased for the first month or two and then gradually decreased back to "normal" dosage. Chantix did absolutely nothing for me...like taking a placebo or sugar pill. Talk to your dr and whoever helps cover medical cost and try the nicotrol inhalers if you still have trouble. They are just nicotine cartridges put into a mouthpiece device. You just inhale the nicotine through the mouthpiece. Recommend you aim the mouthpiece towards the top of the mouth so the nicotine does not hit the throat (it is strong and burns a little). I had used that when i did not have ciggs and then used my e-cig to give the smoking feel. No vapor with the inhaler and no flavor (just nicotine flavor).

I am the same way - hospital almost no craving unless they allow smoke times and when out i smoke as fast as possible: even couple times smoking an entire 100 cig in about 1 min and then lighting another after the head rush gone. Don't know why but think it has to do with the mind - not able have any or only certain times in hospital then out is pure freedom. I am also the same way when with family cuz they not smoke so no allow smoking much. Maybe find something to get your mind into that state of thought to help with the urges.

I don't agree with the people here that discourage you from using patches

Seems like the GUM would be a better choice, you can self-administer by the mg, instead of a constant feed like the patch. ???

I tried to smoke a light cig once on the patch and got dizzy, headache, nauseous .... signs of nic overdose

Hope you're doing good today Betty. I forgot but did anyone mention trying WTA juice? Seems to work great for many people.

Betty, I use WTA juice from Aroma when i have those strong cravings, smoked 2 PAD myself before vaping. I noticed you said you are a menthol smoker.. me myself i am not.. i prefer tobacco flavors but i did buy a bottle of Aroma WTA menthol to try it once, and it wasnt for me.. i like their tobacco flavors better ;) anyways, if you would like to try WTA i can send you the bottle of menthol i have (its called P-38) free of charge. just send me a message if you want it.

I had thought I was doing good about a month ago but now realize that I'm still smoking the same amount of cigarettes.

I had a thought over the weekend of maybe trying nicotine patches to cut down/quit cigarettes and only vaping when the patch is on.

Has anyone tried this method before? I just don't know what to try next and am extremely frustrated and angry at myself for not being able to transition.

Any help, ideas, thoughts would be greatly appreciated,

thank you,

betty

Betty, Honey, please stop!
Dont use any more analogs!!!
I quit using them since day one my first nooby kit arrived.
Try that:
Order Authentic Kanger EVOD kit and juice from MTB, ask them in life chat whats the best juice for you!
Please...

Zolpidem (ambien's drug) sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. I'm having all symptoms of fibromyalgy and sometimes my sleep cycles get right. Try melatonin on a daily basis for a long time (I've been on it for at least 2 years). Unless I'm really stressed it works like a charm, if I'm too wired I get a 0,50 mg dose of Klonopin under my tongue. But what really gets me to doze off, beleive it or not, is to watch a vape video as I'm in bed. And it's no joke!

Yep, that is what I use now myself. Melatonin disolvable by natral at Walmart. Great product. Take it and lay down listening to music to help against racing thoughts and anxiety; basically not thinking need go sleep, after about 30 min my head begin to spin and so turn over and within seconds am sleeping. Usually I take about 2 or 3 when very anxious or stressed.

Dr told me not to do ambien because of become dependant on them. He kept forgetting that my anxiety kept me awake. I decided to stop ambien when i began sleep smoking again and almost had another fire in my bed. About $9 for a bottle of 30 melatonin disolvables and no need smoke at bed time. Helps with vaping too..no nic craving and now one less trigger :)

I do keep my e-cig with me at all times, I just don't think of it as much as I should :(

I just get very discouraged when I tell my husband I need clippers and he sometimes says "already?", feel like a failure :( :(

You should be so proud of yourself for trying to get off analogs. You're doing something about it, and that's GREAT! I didn't read the entire thread, so maybe you already found it, but you WILL find the right system for you, and when that happens, you won't ever want an analog again! :) Best of luck!

I'm thinking of trying WTA.

Vaping works for me 100% when sober, I actually enjoy it MORE than I did smoking!

But when I drink alcohol, normal e-juice just does not do it and I have 1 - 5 cigs. I don't cry over it as it's only once or twice a week and that means I'm down from 40 a week to 2 - 10 and that's 120 analogues less per month equals 1,200 less per ten months and it's the ones we DON'T smoke that matter.

But yeah, when drunk it ain't cutting it and hotwire needs a cpl of drinkies (not heavy) a week with the boys after work.

I tried Melatonin once but it made me feel awful. I did some research online and found a site that said if you are on SSRI antidepressants that you shouldn't take melatonin. I suppose it's like anything else in that YMMV (your mileage may vary).

The hospitals here don't allow smoking of any kind on the premises and like I said, it didn't bother me. Every year when we go visit my mother I can't smoke in her apartment and have to go outside so I don't smoke much when I'm there.

What's the difference in the nicotrol inhalers and the patches?

thank you for the excellent reply and support :)

You'll get there if you want bad enough. Snus is an awesome replacement and nasal snuff even better if you can take the stuff and all the blowing. It's hit is the same as a cigarret te. Fast. French inhale the vape and exhale through the nose. Most the nic gets absorbed through the nose. Think about that cloud disappearing into your nose. The affects are a little faster than mouth. Slow down and play with the vape. Vaping and smoking are different! I visualize licking clean a dirty ashtray or chewing up cigarette butts. Takes some of its appeal away.

I do have Fibromyalgia as a side effect of hypermobility syndrome. I never considered that it may have a part in my sleep problems. My problem isn't going to sleep, it is staying asleep. On a typical night I'll fall asleep then two hours later I am wide awake for a few hours. Sometimes I can go back to sleep, sometimes I can't.
