I have been wanting to try ecigs to quit smoking for some time after several quit smoking attempts. I am a pack a day smoker and just cutting down is a struggle for me. I have been trying to save up for an ecig but always seem to need the money somewhere else. I was very fortunate that my sister sent me a blu ecig but I can not seem to get any satisfaction out of it. The vapor seems alright and I feel a throat hit some of the time (would prefer more) but I have to really really pull on it. After doing this for awhile I feel kind of tired of it and still really want a smoke. I'm using the strong cartridges which only go to 12 to 16mg of nicotine I think. Could it be that I need a higher dose or are some people just not able to make the transition? Was it hard for anyone else?

Turn around...
It was hard for me also. You have to fight the urges for the first couple of weeks. When you want a cigarette, vape instead. Go to walmart and try the mistic. They are cheap and have 18mg nicotine that should help. I started with mistic. You can also refill the cartridges with your own juice. I now have a volt x2 and looking for mod.

Thanks for the advice :) I'm not really picky about how it looks if it will provide relief for my craving. I feel like I need something strong that I don't need to puff on so hard lol

I had the same problem you had, I wanted to kick the analogs, so I purchased a Blu, hands down it was the single worst purchase I ever made. I felt that it was a complete waste of money, and returned to the analogs. Fast forward 6 months, I was ready to start again, but this time I researched e-cigs more. I found the eGo-C, purchased a custom starter kit from a local retailer here for $29.99 (Battery, Clearomizer, Passthrough Charger, and 15ml bottle of juice), I used it for 5 hours, and never went back to real cigarettes again. However this has also gotten me on a new habit, Purchasing PV's, Tanks, Carto's and Juice flavors (Oh the Flavors).

I am currently using a SmokTech Zmax V2 with SmokTech DCT-U 6ml tanks with 1.5ohm Carto's, and to top it off I have about 20 bottles of juice (Watermelon, Watermelon-Green Apple, Menthol, Black Cherry, Orange Tangerine, Pineapple, Cherry Limeade, the list goes on lol).

The throat hit is determined by the nic %. The higher the % the more throat hit. Sorry the Blu isn't as good as you would like, and I to understand the money isue. The Device is the big initial investment, so check around, ask here for advice, and search for good prices so you wont regret another purchas.

Next will be refilled cartos or juice to fill your own tank, cartos, rebildable atamizer (RBA), or cartridges. This can get costly too. Trying to find a juice you love takes some time. There are a few out there that it seems most often is acceptable to everyone. Bobas comes to mind, as does ry4.

DIY is a great money saver, I spend less than 10 cents a day on my DIY juice. Tales some time to get all that in order tho.

Keep in mind that the money you would use on smokes will come back to you in the long run. Some people here can spend alot, and I enjoy there fun, but sadly I have to play it tight on the wallet.

Higher PG has a bigger effect on TH i do believe.

I've not used a blu & I'll let others advise on hardware and liquid.....
but in general you don't want to take hard drags, softer and maybe longer drags might help.
also, there is no rule on how to quit the cigs. I vaped and smoked for the first month or so, some people drop cigs immediately and others do like I did. when I wanted a cig I vaped a while and then if I still wanted the cig I had it. the number of cigs I smoked went down every day, almost magically :)
count the cigs you don't smoke, not the ones you do :)

good luck, you can do it

This.

PG (propylene glycol), VG (vegetable glycerin) are the main ingredients in the e liquid/juice. Propylene Glycol (PG) is mucho thinner. PG produces more of a “throat hit” than VG does, which simulates the feel of smoking more.

I think for every option out there for quitting smoking, there's a solution for everyone, whether it be nicotine gum, hypnotherapy, cold turkey, e cigarette etc. I was a pack a day smoker, and quit immediately after receiving my first e cig. In fact I changed all my ejuice from 15mg to 10 within the first month, so I don't think the nic strength has much to do with it.

Out of EVERYONE I know that has attempted vaping as a means to quit smoking, only the ones like myself who have a technology background or are mad on gadgets took to it instantly and gave up straight away. All those I know that do not have a passion for technology are back on the cigs.

I feel your pain on quitting smoking. I can't recommend hardware, as I'm still a newbie, but I can share some tips that helped me lower my cigarette consumption considerably. The trick for me is to just allow myself to have a cigarette when I want it. I find the more I deny myself a cigarette, the more I think about it, which in turn leads to me giving into temptation and smoking more cigarettes. In about one week, I went from smoking over 2 packs a day to smoking just 5 a day and it's getting easier to cut down as time goes on. I find myself thinking less about cigarettes and more about how much I enjoy vaping. Just don't get discouraged and keep trying until you find some hardware and juice that you like. This is honestly the only thing I have ever tried that made cutting down cigarettes tolerable. Hopefully soon I'll be done with them completely.

It may take you some time and some failures to find what suits your taste, TH and vapor. But just keep with it.

Try a disposable (or a starter kit (many recommendations on the forums), if thats not suiting your needs, try a cheap VV (like ego twist) and grow from there. There are many other options out there when it comes to what battery suits what you need.

Now the fun part.. Flavors.. you will be playing alot of guessing here... So many flavors to help you get what you need. You may be a fruit person and not know it.. or a candy person.. or you may just like the tobacco flavors. If you aren't sure what will suit your taste buds i recommend looking at places that offer sample packs (from sample prefilled carto's to sample of e-juice where you can fill a clearo or tank)

Whatever you do, just have fun experimenting with different flavors, set ups and all. If you don't have fun and open your mind to new flavors and all, you may easily give up and go back to cigs.

If you ever need help there are many people on this forum that have been in the same boat as you and they will help you stay off the cigs and help you find what suits your needs for vaping.

good luck and i hope you find what you are looking for :)

Something that helped me too is to vape more than one flavor every day. The tastebuds don't go dormant that way also. If you can afford it get a couple of eGo batteries and use them throughout the day with different flavors. Good luck, as it has been stated, don't obsess about wanting a cigarette and not being able to have it. Go ahead, light up, and one day you will gag when you do.

I am still struggling to completely quit the analogs (real cigarettes) but I am vaping more than I was before and smoking less analogs than I was...my problem is still trying to find a juice I can "all day vape" ( I am apparantly very sensitive to tastes either to strong or a flavor I cant stand etc) I also started with the blu disposable and then I ordered a volt kit and it is better but then I tried a friends ego and I have never wanted to go back to the old cigarette looking style since then...I have to tell you there is something magical about pressing that button and not having to suck so hard to get vapor. also a big lesson I learned from the folks here in the last couple of days is that you need to slow down your inhale on an ecig as soon as I sucked less & slower & longer it helped out a bunch. My recommendation is to go with a cheap ego starter kit I got mine locally with 2 batteries, 2 atomizers & 5 cartridges for $38.00....there may be better deals out there I am sure but all I know is I am to the point that I feel like I want to be done done done with real smokes so I said the hell with it and bought it. All I can say is keep with it and it will happen it is hard to find what works best for you. Example: I started this whole process before my buddy even knew I was doing it so I introduced him to it and since he bought the ego kit has hasn't had a analog in 5 days and he was just done smoking the real cigs...and that was on juice I thought was nasty. And here I am 5 days later still smoking analogs (although a lot less) and wishing I was like him. But some of us have to struggle more than others to get there and some of us it just comes natural. Just keep at it and try different juices and different set ups and you will succeed.

Welcome aerin555, I am just south of you. As so many others have said it is a process and different things work for different people. I was one of the lucky ones I guess, I actually started with the ePuffer Colibri which is cigarette like - just to see if it would help me cut down on the over a PAD I was smoking.

I love smoking and have been doing it for 46 years - so I actually did not have any intention of quiting. However, with the Colibri I was down to 3/4 cigarettes a day and actually finding that I enjoyed it more than the real cigarette. I then found ECF and started reading and reading and reading some more. :?:

Great information and support lead me to ordering two eGo Twists, some better ejuice delivery thingys and some better and stronger ejuice. I went with 18mg to start - but with my next order I went down to 15mg. The best part was with the better battery (I started with the 650 mAH) as they were smaller, I decided to just not smoke anymore. It has now been six weeks and even when I am with smokers - I do go out with them - they smoke and I vape.

I have definitely spent almost the same amount I would have if I was smoking - although it doesn't look like it in my signature - but since I did not buy any cigarettes in those 4 weeks when I first started - as of right now I have actually spent $170 less than if I was smoking. The tough part is putting out the money all at once - and of course I have ordered more juice delivery clearomizers and 2 more batteries to have backups for my backups.

I still cannot believe I am not smoking - still have 5 packs of cigarettes in the freezer - just in case. Anyway - that is my story - just know that for everyone it is not this easy. I have had a few small challeges, ejuice in my mouth, leaking clearomizers and once no batteries charged - but I figure since I have made it this far - I actually think I can do this ;) If I can help you in anyway - please let me know. I think for starters though - getting a better ecig with some choices in delivery and juice will definitely help you on your way.

Good Luck  and keep trying.

High PG, Higher Nic, and low resistance cartomizers/atomizers/etc definitely make a big difference. Like others have said, the beauty of PVs is quitting the way that is comfortable for you - whether that means still smoking a few cigarettes or not. There's a big difference between smoking 5 cigarettes a day and smoking 20. You can do it : )
