Suggestions for a good eGo style battery and a clearo/tank?

I currently use Volt X2 batteries (3.6v regulated, not the VV/spinner types) with cartomizers (usually smok Tech 2.0 ohm)
Because my X2's seem to keep dying on me, i'm going to switch to something else that is less expensive, and if I'm lucky, will hold up better. I definitely want to stick to an eGo style battery because I don't want anything bigger. And I'm not really interested in variable voltage. I prefer my vaping to be a simple as possible.

I would also like to move away from cartomizers because I'm tired of having to worry about overfilling or letting them go dry and burning. I've tried two clearos and while I liked being able to see the amount of liquid and not worry about constant topping off, I wasn't happy with the performance of either.
Volt X2 Clearomizer - The problem with this one was lots of what seemed like semi dry hits, with a slightly burnt taste.
Volt Aspire T3 BDC - No problem with dry hits, but the flavor was muted and there was no warmth to the vapor at all. With each puff, I wasn't sure I was getting vapor until exhaling.

So I'm looking for help with two things.
First, any suggestions on a less expensive alternative to the X2 batteries? I'm thinking about the Kanger's. They are cheaper and I've heard good things about their reliability.

Second, any suggestions for a clearo/tank type system that is easy to use, and will work well with a 3.7v eGo type battery?

I've found, in my limited experience, that EVOD batteries paired with either EVOD or Protank 2 mini tanks is pretty much the best (subjectively) EGO-style vaping experience out there. EVOD buttons are recessed into the body instead of press-fit on top so there's less chance of breakage and EVOD/Protanks, being bottom coils clearomizers (aka BCC), never have dry hit issues. As an added bonus, the coils are semi-rebuildable, so they offer an easy soft intro into rebuildable gear for those looking to save money or dip their toes into that side of vaping.

Is there a difference between those Kanger tanks and the Volt Aspire T3 BDC that I tried?
They look very similar and the problem I had with the Volt version was cold vapor without much taste.
Could it be because the Volt is dual coil?
Maybe the 3.6v wasn't enough for that?

i'm using 2 Kanger Mini Protanks 2 & 2 Ego C-Twist batteries 1000mAh atm. (Matt black)
Have purchased 2 more batteries, the Vision Ego Spinner 400mAh & Ego C-Twist 650mAh. (both Stainless steel), really dig the stainless steel color to go along with the Kanger Protanks! :)

Since you are using VV batts with the Kanger tanks, maybe you can help with my last question about the voltage needed for best results.

I started off with the ego C-Twists (1000mAh) and a variety of clearos before settling on the Protanks.

To determine your voltage, take the resistance of your coil and add 2 to it. This will give you a starting voltage that you'd then adjust up or down to find your sweet spot for the juice you're vaping.

For example, let's say your coil is 1.8 ohms. You'd add 2 to that getting 3.8. That would be your starting voltage and you'd then adjust for taste. :)

Here's a pic of my old ego setup:

If you like the "warmer" vapor, you would probably be better off with an iClear 16 or iClear 30 (bigger)--not the new b models--the older style. You would also be better off with a VV (Variable Voltage) or VW (Variable Wattage) battery--VV is easier so you can "dial in" you're preferred heat setting for whichever liquid you have on top at the time. I started with Joyetech ego-C Twist batteries but it is hard to read the dial so I would suggest the Spinners, Winders or the new Kanger EVOD vv.

Another option is a couple steps up but for the same price as some of the above kits you can get an iTaste VV 3. The reason I would suggest this over the above is the pass through, universal micro usb charging, ohm reader and it will do both VV & VW. Vapingtown on ebay has a very good price & selection of colors on the either the express or starter kits. They are very reliable or you can make your own kit here:

Joye eGo Rechargeable Batteries $27.95 - battery
Innokin Dual Coil CE5 Rebuildable Clearomizer $5.95 - iClear 16
USB Charger cord - iTaste USB charger - $4.95

I would also like to move away from cartomizers because I'm tired of having to worry about overfilling or letting them go dry and burning.
Two weeks after I began vaping I had the same issue and added a carto tank. Can see the level of juice and no more dry hits/ burnt filler. With carto+ tank my cartos lasted:
dark juice- 50-60 ml
light juice- 80-90 ml
Volt Aspire T3 BDC - No problem with dry hits, but the flavor was muted and there was no warmth to the vapor at all. With each puff, I wasn't sure I was getting vapor until exhaling.
Far cooler vape with bottom coil clearos- I prefer a warmer vape that's why I use top coil clearos and/ or carto+ tank= warmer vape.
SLB was the first company to release a 3.7 volt eGo style PV (Kgo). I own and LOVE it. Kanger is also 3.7 volt. Don't own it but have heard good things.
With a 3.7 volt PV if needing a warmer vape I'd suggest single coil 1.8 ohms cartos or top coil clearos.

Any suggestions (or at least examples, so I can see what it is) for a carto tank or a top coil clearo?

These are the cartos I use with my 3.7 volt Mod and 3.7 volt Kgo. Resurrector also known as the SmokTech 1.7 ohm single coil carto. I ALWAYS used single coil- found dual coil gave a very weak non existent cool vape. I believe before you dive into buying another battery you may want to try some single coil delivery devices.
