I didn't check until after the firmware upgrade, but there was a nickel profile on the mod. You could start by just trying that profile. Set the wattage to maybe 25 and temp at like 375 and work up from there. Nickel is about the only TC wire I've never actually used.

@Wayneo and @dwcraig1 would know better,

Ok, thanks mate. I also found a very detailed post by you over in the VU BB appreciation thread on TC setup for SS. Looks like it would be about the same procedure-wise.

Btw, do you know what to set the internal resistance of the sxk BB at in escribe?

Nickel is the easiest metal for the board to accurately measure temp with and SS317 is one of the most difficult. This is attributed to how much or little the resistance changes from cold to hot. Nickel's resistance nearly doubles while SS3XX has only a slight change.

You mean how since there isn't a 510? Or how do you set the internal resistance period? The latter is more complicated to answer. But it should be the same as most BBs, so you could just use this. dwcraig1 probably remembers. What is it dwcraig1? 0.006Ω? Even if you skip setting it, you still can use it. But the temperature setting might be off a few degrees. Nothing deadly serious.

Yes, the latter. I'll just set it to .006Ω
Should be close enough for government work. ;)

Thanks

A lot of people don't like the 70 watt, but i have one and like it almost as much as the Dna version,it works just as well, although i don't use temp control,so can't say how it is for that.
1 Piece of advice i will give you on it though,is to seal the pin with silicone.A few weeks after getting mine,it started to act very glitchy, the screen would flicker,it would give me low battery messages, would shut itself off, etc. and i thought the board went out after just a few weeks.I seen stuff about juice messing with the board,so i took it apart, and there was just a tiny bit of juice on the board.I cleaned it with alcohol, pushed the pin up and sealed it with silicone, and it has worked great ever since, that was several months ago and no issues again,so seal your pin from the start so you don't have issues later.

Thanks for that tip, it seems like a smart thing to do (or at least try) right after the box arrives.

That is definitely a good plan.It is actually very easy to do,you have to be gentle with it.The way i did it was to take the back cover where the button is,and the front where the screen is both off, then gently pull back on the board while you feed the screen through the hole where the ribbon is.I only pulled it back far enough to get to the pin.You may be able to just pull the pin straight up a bit without taking everything apart though, just find something that you can get under the black bushing around the pin and pry up a small bit, then just squirt some silicone around it and push it back in,then use the boro tank or something to hold the pin down while the silicone dries.I had to pull mine apart to clean the board off,but if unused i would try to gently pull the pin as it would be easier i think.

What stuff have you used to seal the positive pin, is normal silicone ok?
I used normal silicone, but i got one that said it was low odor,it came in what looks like a toothpaste tube with a long nozzle on the end which works perfect for getting around the pin.

A follow up on my YFTK Xeta from FT that broke after 3+ months of use, I ordered it on the 4th of September and I lodged a ticket with FT mid Jan...

They replied today saying:
"We will contact the supplier to resend you the post. Due to the Spring festival holiday and the recent outbreak of Coronavirus, we can not confirm if the supplier has resumed to work. If yes, we will urge them to send the item as soon as possible. You will need to wait a longer time than usual, is it ok for you?"

That sounds promising... :)

My 70w plus Insider v2 arrived finally.

Feels like a nice device and the Rba is ok too. Good draw and not noisy, but little light on flavor and th. Also the screws like to cut 28ga wire very easily.

Now I`m trying to put sealant on the pin, wish me luck
One thing I can tell ya friend is that the Billet Box is all about experimentation. The possibilities are endless.

I should go and find my soldering gear but my skills are terrible and this is a very small wire, I can barely see it.
THIS guy across the pond has a good deal of experience both with soldering and soldering in the Billet Box. He's also very willing to help others.
