It's not like their warranty is worth the cost of the paper it's printed on anyway.

Really? That's news to those of us that have already had SXMinis out of the first batch with bas black paint replaced with a new mod. I have yet to see single complaint about YiHi not honoring their warranty. Can't say the same for Evolv.

Not sure why you'd say that. Many have had exceptional warranty service that have posted in this very thread regarding warranty, mostly on paint issues. Do you have first hand experience that differs from that or are you just /trolling ?

Question for you guys if you don't mind answering. How can you tell if you have the newer model with the updated paint?

Check the firmware. Since 2.2 was released on 5/30/15, chances would be that you've received one of the newest SXM's. As long as your box was sealed, I would guess your okay. I received my all black model and it had the latest 2.2 firmware.

Bad idea to charge it directly, because the mini USB port is excluded from the warranty

I don't see how that means much of anything:
    • wears out connector insert/remove - unable to charge or upgrade FW - possible but unlikely and considering I mostly like how it functions now this is not a big deal to me
    • somehow blows internal USB fuse making charging unavailable - again possible but unlikely, unlike devices with fixed batteries I could still swap batteries - not a big deal
    • best leave device in the box as it might wear out - possible but I don't care - I bought it to USE it not to endlessly worry myself if the device will last or not
While I still think the menu system is funky, I've been happily vaping away with a fixed temp, the device has met my expectations. Now I just need to find a cooler (temperature wise) drip tip for the Subtank Mini - mine is getting warm. ;)

Well just my 2 cents however the choice is yours entirely. I do what I do because the main selling point of sxmini is the user upgradeable chip. I cannot upgrade the chip while the USB port are broken, therefore from my point of view, it doesn't make a sense choosing an option that will increase the possibility the chip cannot be upgraded easily anymore. Just my thoughts though
