Zivipf in Germany now carries certified grade 1 and grade 2 titanium.

Hi Tony. Many thanks for that. I paid a small fortune for my 24g on uk amazon. Ordered 10m of 28 and 30g Gr1 - came in around £10 including tax and delivery! Very cool!

Sounds reasonable, I was just worried if it was a potential safety issue or something like that. Funny thing is the USB port on my mini feels like it's probably the most solid USB port I've had in ALL of my electronic devices, not just ecig devices.

Indeed the USB port is much more firmer than those found on any of my VFs. Charging through USB usually done via a power bank in my case and I have never replenish the power via direct wall charger.

Also about the USB port not being used. It has been known for quite some time that it just is better to not use the USB port on the mods as it is supposed to work in a pinch but I would never use it as a everyday thing myself. Especially when its quicker to just swap out battery's that are already charged on my smart charger that actually is quite a bit safer. Also yihi is smart in doing this as I myself building mods especially know how the USB port is the weakest link. I have had one of my own sx350 builds I gave to a friend have the metal USB port snap off the USB board when he was charging it and it fell over and it snapped off. Luckily with the sx350 they sell replacable boards that are pre-wired up so it was an easy fix to solder on. Some mods are not so. The USB board is actually attached to the sx350j board and is not seperate at all so if the USB snaps off the board then they would most likely have to replace the whole chip unless there is a way to resolder on a new USB port which I doubt. I had a friend also have the same thing that happened to my sx350 happen and his USB snapped off his istick 20 watt and I took it apart for him to see if it was fixable, turned out they had it directly attached to the main board in the istick as well. I personally am not going to risk loosing my sx350j upgradability to charge it a unsafer way. Because if the USB snaps off the board, the mod will most likely still function but you will be stuck forever on the first firmware, which apparently isn't that bad but I like the fact that they can update the watts and change things to the users liking. Also you would be forced to charge battery's the correct way at the point anyways.

Has anybody even considered using plain old graphite powder?

It's conductive, it's non greasy so it won't attract dust and it will make any thread ridiculously smooth.

It's the stuff you use to make your zipper and key lock work again?

Only downside is that it's dark grey in color but who looks at the threads anyway?

I charged my battery through the USB port last night and all seems fine. Did yihi give any reason as to why they don't suggest charging through the port? I did it the whole time I had my ipv mini 2, I'd expect a device that costs almost 3x as much to be able to do the same. The battery cover is kind of a pain to get on and off, but I guess that's mostly due to the threads being a little "dry". I'll look into some of the suggested lubes here.

The manual (yes I did read it eventually) says usb is for charging (500mA) and for update. At lest the online version. No idea where this myth about not using it for charging comes from! Anyway it is slow but not so bad and the port is indeed very solid.

I say use a dedicated charger at night and the onboard USB if you're outside in the middle of the desert and you forgot your spare battery at home :)

I used it once to se how well it worked. Doubt I will bother in future unless your scenario happens and the desrt location has a wall socket with USBV adaptor! lol.

Yes this topic has been hard probably due to the nature of electronic communication it's sometimes hard to convey information. So when someone says it's "Not suggested" or "not recommended" somehow that gets turned into "You cant" so for clarity here's the snippet from the online user manual pg. 8 that's brought this up several times in the thread. Also unless they've recently updated the manual the one I downloaded a couple days ago on pg. 13 indicates 450mAh charge.

mixed messages though...!

Lol, I suppose it could be looked at as mixed messages.

But when an auto dealer says a car will go 0 - 60 mph in 2.2 sec doesn't mean you'll be starting off like that from every stop will you? :) Or that they would recommend you do so.

The simple is it's there if you need to charge off of it. But they want you to be aware of the shorter warranty period and be careful not to misuse, damage or wear out the connector as it's mainly there for software updates.

Found something strange. I wanted to test the USB port so I plugged in a cable then set the link option to on and the sx mini reset itself. Once it came back up the link option was still set to off. I decided to remove the USB set the link option to on then plug in the usb cable and it reset again but this time did not come back. I had a moment of freak out so pulled the battery and replaced it and the sx mini is back to normal.

It seems to charge just fine so not thinking anything is wrong with the USB port itself.

Can anyone else give the link option a test to see if they see the same behavior?

I have tried the built in USB charger and it works fine but I prefer to use my XTAR XP4 for all of my batteries because it has't let me down yet and even with doing super low builds on my mechs I have yet to have even 1 18650 or 18350 go bad after using this charger for about 1 year! My batteries have outlasted everyone I know who has done similar mech builds. The only thing I can equate it to is my use of a better charger. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
