Not really conclusive, but...

Civil Engineering « NAMTI

While construction in Shanghai progressed, ThyssenKrupp was transforming what had only been a prototype TR-08 maglev vehicle construction facility in Kassel, Germany into a full-fledged manufacturing plant. The SMTDC ordered 15 vehicles to constitute three 5-vehicle consists. Once the Kassel plant was fully converted to mass production, it produced one vehicle per month. The completed vehicles were then shipped to a facility constructed at the end of the Shanghai maintenance spur for final assembly. In addition to the maglev vehicles and guideway stator packs, ThyssenKrupp designed, fabricated, and shipped the eight bendable steel guideway switches for the system and supervised their installation.
Ok...sounds good to me. No problem. I accept that you are right. I hope the Chinese paid the Germans and didn't steal the cars. :)

Excellent points and to my mind exactly right. One can find good and bad everywhere and labeling Chinese=bad/American=good is irrelevant to fact. I live in the USA and I let my flag wave by the front door.

And yes, you are right. I have an interest in building timepieces as a hobby...we got our big push in the industrial revolution by taking Swiss designs for watches and building them cheaper. It's sort of a normal way that a technologically backward country becomes a technologically advanced country right?

Didn't make us bad then and doesn't make China bad now. It's the development path of the worlds societies and knocking it doesn't make much sense (at least to me).

That sounds like an awesome hobby! I have a nice collection of fine complications.

I never had the desire to build a watch, but I have an urge to build a clock drive. For another hobby of mine.

I finished a free pendulum clock a while back that is (if I do say so) pretty advanced for an amateur. If you want to talk about watch and clock making sometime hit me up. I'm now in the middle of a watch that is driving me nuts. The eyes are getting to old for that and the wallet is getting too thin.

Active rectification is much more efficient with low current and high voltage as compared to high current and low voltage. Thus, if you need 160W from a hypothetical 4V battery, it's better to ask for 20A at 8V from a series configuration to input into the rectifier than 40A at 4V from the parallel configuration. One can make a high efficiency active rectifier for high currents, but the design is going to be more complicated and the component cost higher (not to mention ancillary issues, such as heat, from using twice the current in the device), so why bother?

Yozhik,

Where the He!! were you when I needed ya? You are now the "Official explainer of stuff". :thumb:

That is the trouble with technical subjects even if one has a good grasp on the concept you have to be able to put it in terms that folks can understand. :toast:

Thanks, I appreciate the compliment. :)

A bit of sad news, btw, my replacement SX Mini doesn't show up until Saturday. As much as the iStick 30W is a good device, I'm about ready to throw at the wall. The SX Mini spoiled me rotten I dare say. ;)

So I've been running the test firmware for 3 days and just updated to the released firmware. It seems to me that it is actually saying dry coil at an earlier point than the test which imo is a good thing. I did notice that if you set your resistance and flip over the device it reads a mirror image instead of flipping the text. Also it seems to do this for a millisecond on all other flips. But altogether great job yihi. Now I'm just waiting for my Boxer DIY kit!

I'm absolutely ...... with the B&M I purchased my sx m from. 1 month ago, I went to them and inform them on the paint issue and they agree to replace but was out of stock. They just managed to restock the mod and I paid a visit to them and now they refuse to replace it saying it's not an issue. I showed them my email conversation with yihi on this and they change their statement saying they only replace within 7 days of purchase. Sigh...I'm sending a complain to yihi on this particular vendor.

I'm absolutely impressed with Yihi's customer service. They have contacted the B&M to request them to provide a replacement for me. Kudos to yihi for putting an extra effort in this.

That's good

Yihi obviously care much more about their customers and reputation than that B&M do

What made me really upset is the staff's attitude. He saw my mod and said "Oh! That's very normal for the paint to chip off". I was like. .."In less than a month without any abuse or mishandling and on a mod that costs $200?" and he moved on to another excuse showing their reluctance to replace it.

I don't blame Yihi or the owner of the shop but rather the staffs that's handling the shop. Seeing how they are, I just left the shop and email yihi right away. Sadly, they are also the main distributor for yihi products if my sources are correct.

So.... Since i like to change out my batteries twice a year (Jan 1st / July 1st) I started doing some shopping. Came across a new LG HG2. Seems like the perfect battery for the sxmini. 20 Amp cont / 30 Amp max with 3000 mah.

I know they're new, but has anyone had any experience with these yet?

Would you be really kind and let me know how that goes once you get it working? I love the idea of two batteries without a tube sticking out of the hand. The more details the better, I couldn't find any info about steps needed to assemble the boxer. Specifically if there's any soldering involved, please. Thank you

Looking at the enclosure on Shapeways it appears the only soldering required would be for the 510 connector and possibly battery connections. I think overall the concept is great. It's just not very pocket friendly being at 1.54" at it's narrowest point would be like pocketing a brick IMO.

Where are they available for purchase? I've been interested in those too.

RTD Vapes although have been hearing on here the HE4 is better only 30cents diff.
I have some HE4 I picked up with with some more 25Rs recently...in what are they better than the HG2? Since they are both 20amp, I'm thinking only in terms of how long they will last before needing be swapped. I feel like that extra 500mah would come in handy.
