I do not understand what you are asking. if you mean what the coil is. it is about the same. other than I got ripped off bad on some pre-made coils today. still about the same but these lasted like 5ml. they are pretty close. usually within .03 ohm if that is what you were asking. I am not sure joules is the same as watts. that is probably why the sxm takes less. it can't be that big a difference. it could be powerful plus is way more preheat than I have set on the dna. not sure why that is. it's strange. I would not think it is that big a difference. now I see what you were thinking but it is about the same ohms. I have no idea why it is that big a difference other than possibly the preheat. 43 is too much on a .25 coil on the sxm but I can push 80 on it on the dna. have no idea but I get what you were thinking.

Yeah - I was just wondering if when you lock in the resistance on the SXM it reads pretty much the same as the DNA. But if it is as close as you say it sounds like that idea is out the window. :-(

I got it. 3 times locks, 4 times menu. that is silly. have to try not to lock it before you get into menu.
I do not understand why 43j is burning my coil but the dna I can put 80w n it. sensor is on.
Actually it is 5 times menu. Why are you using 43J. .03ohms is right at the breaking pt for how low the SX will go correct. Try 400F 15J and if it were me I would put another coil in and try to get above .065 Wait I read more so now your resistance is .25 is that on a nickel coil or Ti? I guess I'm lost are you using NI200 or Ti

Ok - just got my replacement SXminiM - updated the firmware and now to do some testing....
    • I mounted a tank with a SS430 build I was using on my Reliant, set TCR to 138, locked in the resistance and left the compensation at 23C and gave it a go - somewhat a weak vape.
    • Switched to Ni mode and mounted a Ni tank and after realizing that my room was really 65-68F I figured the compensation ought to be 18-20C? Result? Way more vapor than what I'm used to seeing on other Ni mods.
    • I tried lowering the compensation temp, I tried rising it.
    Questions:
    1. the compensation temp ought to be the tank/atomizer/room temperature right?
    2. last I recall the 'sensor on/off' related to gravity only - did they loop something else in?
Funny, a new mod and firmware upgrade and I'll have to relearn how to tweak the thing all over again. It is like it is a completely different mod.

yay! I managed to get the upgrade on mine on a macbook air using VBox and Windoze 8.1. A few dicey moments and I started to view the SX as a rather attractive paper-weight at one point but all done and working well!

edit: yes I am feeling pretty pleased with myself!.....and the boost functions work now!! ooooh yeah!!

it is upgraded. I am using ni200. yes, these coils suck. I did not build them and not what I asked for either. I am at 400f. 15j? seriously? it will just putter at that. it needs at least 35j to get going. strange on the dna I am at 460f and need like 80 watts on these coils. I am not trying to make it rain. it just needs that to really get anything. yes, these coils suck but not shorted at least. will have to do until Tuesday when someone can build me better coils. I am disabled in the hands. that is why I type so poorly. trust me, my mind could build claptons all day but my hands will not follow. so at the mercy of whomever will build for me. I am getting like nothing out of these darn things. no fault of either device of course. when I had nice .1 coils they rocked.

My SXM that I had pre-ordered back in February and received in April from Varitube had bit the bullet just a day or two before the new firmware came out. It just started acting weird for about 2 days and then just died. What a bummer but I had been using it every day and giving it a good workout and the paint on the silver / grey was atrocious. It served me well but since it was still well under the 1 year warranty I contacted Perry of Varitube via PM to see what he could do for me. He gave me his address where to send it back for exchange and I shipped it out to them. Varitube had a new silver / silver one in the mail with 2 day shipping and back to me with only about a day in the shop.

I have been using the new one now for a few days with the new firmware and loving it again. It was so lonely and felt like I was missing something for around 10 days while it crossed back and forth across the US. I just can't say enough about the quality of customer service I received from Perry and Varitube. Very professional, no questions asked, and as prompt as one could ask. Didn't even have to deal with Yihi directly at all.

So from my experience paying a premium price for a quality product with a great warranty was worth every penny. I just saw the review of the new DNA 200 products that were just reviewed by Busardo and of the 9 quality mods he reviewed, only the Hcigar VT200 had a 1 year warranty. Most of them had 90 days and even 30 days for the Vero which costs $260.

So a big thumbs up for Perry and Varitube and their quality of service! I see they are now selling the SXM for $179.00 with the ML still on preorder for $199.99. So even after using the SXM for over 6 months now, with a few firmware updates, this mod is still holding its own in quality vaping and features despite all the new stuff that has come out recently.

Just wanted to pass a Thank you to this thread.

Tried to update to Yihi's 2.32 several times and got locked with a warning not compatible with SX Mini. Upgraded to 2.23 then tried and same issue.

Worked back through the pages and found v2.32 with TCR link and decided to give it a shot.
    Now running v2.32

Not into all the technical stuff like most here, but it is nice to fiddle if needed and the update alone seems to have smoothed out my setup. Vape at same settings is noticeably nicer.

    Thanks guys/gals?!!!!

I am kind of sorry actually vaping has gotten so technical. this is 2015 though. you need a masters to use a microwave oven now. just the way the world is now. I think you all know how old I am. when I was born only rich people had electricity in their residence! it has been an interesting journey. even though now I program c# and vb I like vaping to be more like smoking an analog. it is not and that is fine too.

it is cute to see someone walk in a vape shop and state that they are interested in quitting. I am glad though. that is the underlying goal here. I just hope the complexity of some of these does not steer any would be quitter away. okay, that was a run on sentence. still remember 2nd grade too lol. seriously though I am glad no one here ever called out on my lack of punctuation. it is just too difficult with one working finger. just not into dragon though. I mean it has trouble with my accent.

on another note these coils are bad news. can't wait to get some new ones Tuesday. they fizzle out with a 3rd battery left. I bet that explains why they require this power. probably a partial short but not enough to trip the safety. I know it is these coils. I don't need any advice on this. just some good coils. I was baffled at first but everything worked fine until these. I normally have someone build me a .1 ohm ni200. they work plenty good from the right person. the last ones I got from someone else. obviously he messed up. although I find clearos and tanks even worse. I posted about premade coils but was just trying them again. in a pinch probably better than these. clearos have come a long way too though. just not a good rda. actually I hope I can get ti or ss Tuesday.

How did you get the USB to work with the SXM? I have a filter for the DNA200, but when I put the SXMini in link mode it doesn't show up in the USB list.

With NI200 I use the same coil as Ti. I use 28awg 5wrap spaced 3mm about .07-.08 ohms and run it at 390F 14J. To me .25 is a pretty high resistance for nickel YiHi did recommend .065. If you have some wire 26 or 28 build a 3mm 5 wrap coil and give it a try. Mine worked really well with that but I switched to Ti still same build but about .27ohms. I haven't tried the NI200 mode on the new upgrade but still that is really high for an NI200 coil. I just looked it up and with NI200 that is 27 wraps at 3mm to get that resistance. Are you sure it is nickel.

never heard of coil master. ill try googling it. my hands are really okay sort of. i am just shaking like mad. i decided Tuesday i will take an extra ride to a friend that builds multi braided claptons. you should see these. i was just wondering should i get ni, ti, ss or what? he has stock on everything. i would ask him what is best but he will say up to me. problem is i don't know! i do know i will go less than .1 but not less than .03. i do like high wattage though. i could never use 15 joules. at .07 i go to like 35+ joules. it is not kicking it down even.

yes, these are certainly ni200. this guy just does not know what he is doing. i am going to someone else. these coils honestly suck. i do not think he even aimed for a resistance. i can see these are very poorly made. like i said probably a partial short but not enough to trip the protection. these are just very bad. i will be all set Tuesday. if he makes me 10 coils i am set for a while. he will not take money from me so i am bringing him a gift card. amazingly the guy that made these 5 bad coils did take a twenty from me. not a close friend. no big deal.

i probably could use the coil master. id rather just get fancy coils from my friend. not lazy i would just prefer nicer coils if i can obtain them. i can get it for in a pinch. i do not even consider myself disabled i can improvise to about any task. claptons would be pushing it though :(

You can purchase spools of pre-made clapton and twisted wire.

so if I am using ni200.065 ohm and room temp is 70 degrees what should the compensation be set at? Is there some basic guidance on when and how to use this? Thanks
21-22C is about right. 21.1111C is the exact measurement for 70F degrees. 72F is 22.2222C.
