I have the classic SX350 and is very solid

I have confidence in doing the update without battery, observing the procedure.

It happened to me not being able to do the update, then I erased SXI, I clean the registry with Ccleaner and then I re-install SXI and after the update works.

It surely comes from my PC... but it manages ;)
as already said by Technonut not to do the update with the LINK function
It is necessary to remove the battery, it is more safe... less risk of crashing

In France some it makes smoking their SX and it's still working

Soon my SXmini will be there :)

Since documentation is scarce, is pass though ok for this device?
It seems to work fine, but Yihi has not answered my inquiry as of yet
Would be great if they could add an on line documentation/FAQ for this device

I asked Yihi put online documentation in pdf

but as soon as I got mine I'd me to go faster ;)

YiHi continually refers to their "software" and I've been calling it "firmware." If it is indeed an integrated circuit or EPROM/flash-memory based firmware (which it pretty much HAS to be for the device to retain settings the way it does), then updates could be irreversible. But again, they keep saying "software" and it's rocketing my nerd OCD clear off the scale.

I keep thinking, "Dude, just roll back to version 1.0!"

LOL! I had similar thoughts.. I just have a lowly A+ certification though... Have you, or anyone else been able to pull up the version info using YiHi's instructions?

News - Upgrade Valuable Book

I can't seem to pull it up.... Strange that the issue displays it, but I can't see it at all...

I've been passing it through for roughly 9 hours a day, 5 days a week since I've been bringing it to work (which has been every day since I got it) and no problems to report.

Ah! Fellow CompTia alumni, then! They still had questions for Win 3.1 on that exam when I took it.

I was able to confirm the version by removing the battery, holding down the fire button, and reinstalling the battery (continually holding the fire button for about 5 seconds before the screen popped up).

I received mine years back after completing an upgrade / repair tech course at my local Vo-Tech.. I used to frequent the AnandTech forum back in my overclocking / phase-change days... Hence, "Technonut".. ;)

Got the version info now... Thanks! :)

I have to be honest why I probably had so much trouble upgrading. I doubt it is the untimely death issue others experienced. I am running devils canyon with a ton of stuff in the usb ports. if it were like ivy bridge with an average amount of stuff it would probably be fine. as it is I have problems with 5 printers and 3 scanners communicating lol. I have a usb hub with the ground pin lifted and that worked like a charm finally. sorry for nerd tech but I mean it is probably safe to upgrade any of them because I surely would have killed it by now. I guess there is no way to know which are the bad ones. well, until it is too late that is.

oh edit, I am using a phase change chiller right now lol. sure beats a peltier or water. <that's just for technonut haha.

i don't think the firmware upgrade is what is causing the issues, with mine, it happened once before upgrade, displaying "SX350mini V1.2" after i left a battery out of it a couple of days, i tested it again and it functioned normally. so during this i installed the upgrade. few days later same thing happened again except "SX350mini V1.3"

Mine came in a day early,so I got it yesterday. Really loving this thing and impressed with the quality of it - I expected that the chip would be an upgrade from my Provari, but the chinese fit & finish might be a step down. Not the case at all. Extremely solid build, no rattles anywhere, and steady power wherever you set it. It's got a nice heft to it and fits well in my hand. The fire button is perfect - clicky enough that it's tough to fire by accident, but super short throw and soft enough that it activates immediately when you push it. Now I just need to replace the black lemo drop with silver to match.

Mine doesn't say SXmini on the outside, either, and it shipped with v1.3 firmware.

Anybody else turn the screen flip off and set it to your preferred side almost immediately? It's sensitive enough that walking with it in my hand or vaping it can flip the screen over.

Looks sweet with the Lemo, regardless of the color.. :) Yep, I set my screen pretty much from the beginning..

The Chinese can make great quality devices.. The SXmini proves it in spades.. :) Off-topic, but I have a Chinese shotgun (H&R Pardner Pump), which is more or less a clone of the Remington 870.. The Chinese version actually has a milled receiver, the Remington does not, and is VERY good quality. There's glowing reviews all over the net on it.. Cost under $200.00 new, and I am comfortable depending on it for a home-defense weapon. Hasn't given me any issues after 500+ shells through it..

It's really cool as an example of how creative they are with little details, but it takes a fraction of a second to auto flip. I always look at it the same way, so I locked it to "left" where I use it so I don't have to wait that fraction of a second if I've jostled it enough to go to the other side before I look at it.

I really like auto flip. I change hands often. I hold it so much my hands go to sleep! the provari is not a match for anything today really. good quality but old technology. I would say the fit and finish is even better on the sx mini. that means it sets the new benchmark. figures the Chinese would make the best one. the problem is when us companies look for the cheapest labor possible. I am not sure I am ready to trust my life to a $200 shotgun though but I don't doubt it.

I do like the 5 settings so when I am heating a new coil I have a 20 watt ready
I did notice that it does not hold the 3 power options per setting.

If I choose standard-it sets all 5 presets to standard, and the same for the other 2 modes
Not a big deal as for my dripper at 50+ watt I like the power mode.
I guess it's a safe guard, so I leave at standard and adjust as needed

Quite frankly this is one of the features, now that I've experienced it first with the IPV and now the Mini, is going to make it really hard for me to look twice at any APV that doesn't support it. I generally have half a dozen or so toppers primed and ready that I like to swap around, all with different wicking capabilities, nic levels, and flavors (I DIY almost exclusively these days), so it's incredibly handy to be able to lock in different wattages for each one and recall them with a few clicks.

Am I spoiled rotten or what?!

I know what you mean. My SX350 has 5 memory banks and it is a very useful feature. Nice to quickly and easily change your wattage settings when you go from your Kayfun to an Orchid topper. In my opinion, Evolv would have been far better adding memory settings to the DNA 40 and left out temp sensing for a future chip. Having step down, accurate power delivery and memory banks would be an awesome chip, errr, like the SX350.

I'm curious as to what's causing this issue and how long it took from the time of purchase. Was it an overnight thing? Was it charging overnight via usb? Was it the update that caused this? Incorrect update process?

I have one from the first batch and it's working flawless for weeks. I've only swapped batteries instead of usb charging. I vape on it just as much as my rdna 40. The sxmini is my cloud machine for clouds and dual coils. I usually keep it at 60 watts in powerful mode. The rdna is for my lower wattage single ni200 coils.
