I've been looking at getting a TC mod and have noticed that they appear to run lower ohms than standard vw mods... The one I'm looking at says it can go down to 0.06ohms and the mod takes a single 18650. I'm confused as I know a single 18650 can't run a coil that low as the discharge would be far too high. I usually build in the 0.8ohm range so I'd not go that low anyway but curious how TC allows building that low.
Hope that makes sense...

ask here (link at bottom of pg.) and you will get the proper advice, yet i would feel comfortable with any name brand 20 or 30 amp continuous battery such as Samsung 25R, LGHE2, Sony VTC4 if you can find real ones.....and to be safe do not run your battery all the way down, say when your screen reading on your device reads half or a bit less (or check with a DMM 3.6 to 3.7) then exchange/re-charge.
also get your batteries and charger from a reputable Vendor.

To answer the question:

Unregulated low ohm vaping has nothing to do with running low ohm builds in Tc mode.

1. Even if TC isn't working, the material used to make TC capable coils (nickel or titanium) changes it's resistance with temperature. A 0.06 ohm coil at room temperature, might be over 0.5 Ohms when at 400F so the current draw is much lower than a simple calculator will give you because the resistance isn't constant.

2. Assuming TC is working, the electronics will throttle the output in order to keep a set temperature thus reducing the average amp draw.

3. These boards aren't stupid. They monitor the battery under load and if the voltage starts to sag too much, they will simply stop firing.

This isn't obviously an excuse to skip on good batteries but these devices are as safe as you can be regardless of coil resistance.

Can something happen? Highly unlikely but not impossible. Everything made by man can fail. However, think of this: will you stop driving because there is a possibility (no matter how low) of your brakes failing?

Amp drain on regulated devices doesn't work like amp drain on unregulated devices. Only wattage and battery charge level matter, resistance doesn't. Opposite to unregulated devices, amp draw increases with decreasing battery charge. 20 and 30 amp 18650s should be fine, though if you're looking at one of the 60w devices you might exceed the limits of 20a batteries a bit at the highest power mode, depending on the efficiency of the chip.

Thanks tchavei - exactly what I was looking for. I hadn't taken the properties of the different wire into account, I wasn't aware that it increased resistance as it got hotter. Think I need to do some more research before getting a temp control mod.
I use 30A VTC4 batteries in my mechs so would these be good for 60w TC box?
The vtc will definitely be ok.

As long as they are legit. :)

There are so many counterfeits out there that I stopped buying them and moved to samsung 25R... Until they start being counterfeit too [emoji14]
