Toto: They are not for everyone but my kids and I just love them. The taste shocks at first cause it is nothing like peanuts as we know them.....then they just become addicting. They have to cook for a long time in very salty water...in the crockpot they cook for hours. Not nearly as long on the stove top, but still a long time. They are cooked in the shell and they absorb the salt as they cook. There are plenty of recipes online cause they are so popular in the south, and in my opinion, southern food is as good as it gets. And you probably wouldn't screw them up...you just keep tasting them until they reach the consistancy you like....some like them really mushy, but to me that is over cooking them. I like them to still be just a little firm. Like Pokey said, they are great with an ice cold drink.
