From unattended e-cigs exploding in cars overnight to pre-teens vaping in class, there seems to be an ever growing number of anti-e-cigarette stories out there - and many are really starting to push the realms of credibility with even non-vapers calling them out.
These stories do however change public opinion about e-cigs, making more people who don't know much about them think they're a really bad thing.

So we've set up this thread for you to post links to these types of stories when you find one that just doesn't sit right with you. Let your fellow vapers know what everyone else is being told about e-cigarettes.

The best bit of disinformation I've received this week came from online retailers when both my Amazon and PayPal (and subsequently eBay) accounts were suspended for selling an atomizer. PayPal feels I represent a security risk by selling the newish Rocket atomizer for less than $140 since that's what a Kayfun costs, and Amazon doesn't allow the sale of ecigarettes or related items on its site. Neither does eBay while we are on the subject, but that wasn't reason enough to remove my listing, so they got PayPal to do it instead. Apparently these retailers have been won over by the propaganda machine, and have begun spewing it themselves, despite the hundreds if not thousands of e cigarette starter kits, mods, and atomizers sold by (preferred) members of both sites. Shame on them. The war has begun....let the profiteering begin.

Here's one from Huffington Post ( there's probably a few more there as well, they seem to be on the Big Tobacco bandwagon.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/03/electronic-cigarettes_n_3818941.html

I found that clip to be favorable to Vapers. Doctor Steve favored the e-cig. and only mentioned that the long term health aspect hasn't been determined yet. It almost seemed like he wasn't allowed to give his true opinion on "e-cigs"

The rest of the post's were pretty slanted against us for sure.

I recently have taken a couple surveys abut vaping from this site: The Electronic Cigarette . figuring that the more input the better. Unfortunately the surveys seemed slanted more to the possible negative aspects about vaping and not the positive side. It felt more geared to proving they were bad then to get unbiased documentation about vape. They never asked the right questions to formulate a true understanding about what vaping represents. In the comment sections of both surveys I took, I came right out and told them this.

Great idea!

"Maria Azzarelli, the tobacco-control program coordinator for the Southern Nevada Health District... fears e-cigarettes could reverse the public’s views about smoking. "

As more young people get down with e-cigarettes, health officials

I would like to know where she got the data for this claim: “People who may have never used a tobacco product are now using e-cigarettes,” Azzarelli said.

Then, Susan VanBeuge, a nurse practitioner and assistant professor at UNLV, is paraphrased as saying: Much of the advertising around e-cigarettes seems to target youths, VanBeuge added.

I haven't seen too much or any ads or placements of the sort referred to...

The article just goes on with these things, along with the usual "there's no research" and "there's anti-freeze" ... but the worse is that this Azzarelli person actually claims tobacco cigarettes could be safer than e-cigs: "No one can say right now whether e-cigarettes are a healthier alternative to cigarettes..."

:D

I love the anti-freeze story... It's trueish but its so over blown lol. Microscopic amount in 2 brands out of an Asian factory that also manufactured ... Wait for it.... Anti-freeze!!!!!
But propylene glycol is used as antifreeze. No much for common automotive antifreeze, but very common for "RV" antifreeze to winterize fresh water lines, toilets, etc. So there's more truth than fiction that we're inhaling antifreeze.

That's why DruidPriest said trueish. PG is used for that, but when it is stated by the media or FDA it tends to be alarmist, and not explain that PG is used as antifreeze in potable water systems,is safe for human consumption, and is used in many everyday products that people use such as toothpaste. It always seems to be stated by the media and the FDA as if since it is used an antifreeze it must be poison.

There is also WATER in anti-freeze. Should we say that everything that has water in it has anti-freeze in it as well?

Not sure if this qualifies, but I'll post it anyway.

I'm sure many of you are familiar with, or at least have heard of, the new game Grand Theft Auto 5. Well, the GTA series is known for taking things to the extreme and poking fun at just about everything imaginable, and generally you are not supposed to take anything seriously. It is satire at it's core.

Well, there is this product in the GTA5 universe called "The Electro Toke System" and is described as an electronic pipe, which is used to vaporize hard-drugs into, as they describe it "harmless water-vapor". I personally find it hilarious because I know the reference, but at the same time realize it might not be doing the ecig world any good.

There is an in-game fake website you can visit, which I have screen-capped and posted as links below (there is offensive language and some crude product descriptions in the website, so I don't want to directly display the image). There is also a radio-ad when you are listening to the in-game radio, and I crack up every time I hear it (simply because I am an ecig user and know the satire reference).

Here's the main page of the website:

Here is their list of flavors:

You gotta hand it to Rockstar for their creativity and wittiness, but as I said... it could reflect ecigs in a poor light as well (maybe... I mean those that play the game know it is satire).

But its supply and demand. There are many people choosing PG free liquid blends. That is why they offer them. People have freedom to choose analogs over Pv's if they want, so let them choose PG free liquids as well. Let facts and research speak for themselves. If nobody buys it, there will be no profit, hence people will stop selling it. We should not let one ingredient, bring down the whole vaping movement that is still a healthier alternative to analogs.

Agree with the last part but vaporizers for that "other" tobacco have been around long before e-cigs. Just sayin.
