Its now my mission to convert you all to metric :)

Dual language is a start :2c:

I've been trying for 40-plus years, Krisma. Don't bother. A system based on the number 10 is WAY too complicated for us. We prefer to think in things like, "5,280 feet equals one mile."

Ours is MUCH simpler, don't you think? ;)

Our problem is that we teach everything based on the concepts of "Conversion." It's why we failed Metric, and why many are challenged to pickup other languages. Conversions are useless but our educational system hasn't grasped that FACT yet. We still think it's the only way to teach stuff .

Who CARES how many liters are in a gallon? IT'S ... IRRELEVANT!!!!

Soapbox, down.

Bye! :D

I was born in the UK so I was brought up with feet and inches and miles etc and there are still some things that come naturally like I prefer miles over kilometres, Yards over metres but liquids, weight and temp are all metric.

How many cubits are in a furlong? Or how many donkeys fit into a bushel? Or best yet, might you "fathom" how much "thou" would fit into a "league"?

ARRRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!

Here in the UK we are pretty much mixed up, we are supposed to have the metric system, but,

We think in Fahrenheit in the summer and centigrade in the winter.

We are supposed to use the metric system for length and weight but most of us still use yards and inches, stones and pounds.

And our road system still uses miles per hour but the highway code thinks in metres!!.

Add to that - the pubs still use pints as a measure and not metric.

Maybe in a few years when us old un's' are gone (we grew up in the imperial age) - the metric system will prevail.

Thank you, Kycap. You're now forgiven for blowing up Kat's pillar. :)

Bang..............

Thanks, Krisma. I knew I could count on you.

I weigh less in kilos than in lbs

Why do you think I prefer it? ;-)

If you'll excuse me now, I'd like to go lock my head into a vice and tighten....

Then shower and go to work. Brainless (like usual). :)

I thought Krisma was RIP too? And DarlingKat?

OMG... I've been so focused on this thread and a few others all day, I hadn't checked the "Today's Posts" all day, till now... OMG... I can't deal with that much stupidity this late at night; I'm hiding in here till I go to bed.

Andria

EDIT: sorry, just saw Krisma's post... so it's just DarlingKat who's out now, apparently...?

You and me both, Andria. I dreamt of U boats, icebergs, and Bill Murray in, "What About Bob?" Thankfully, no Maurice White in the background!
