After taking the above pic, I decided to break it down for a look inside the VapeShell. As you can see, it doesn't have to be a perfect build in order to have a great tootle vape. Seven wraps 30ga Kanthal on 2.0mm. On the VapeShell, this comes out to approx 1.89 ohms because of the long coil legs. Were this build in say, something like a Kayfun, it might come out to maybe 1.7 ohms or so.

Dimensionally, the VapeShell may not be the ideal choice for this build. "Lots" of leg power loss but quick ramp up and cool down. And the Muji cotton wick is rather long but wasn't persnickety installing. I had to hold the coil in the center of the VapeShell with tweezers while tightening the coil legs to keep the coil from deforming.

Initially I tried the largest MTL insert (.5mm) in the build but found the airflow slightly too restrictive and there was a bit of coil pop when fired and vaping. So, I settled on the smallest standard insert (2mm) and that provided the best airflow for me and all but completely eliminated coil pop.

I can't speak to flavor since I vape non-flavored. I'm all about the nic and tobacco cessation. This build provides a draw and production experience similar to, if not the same taste as, the stinkies.

So what off the shelf coil does this build compare to? ... 1.8 ohm Aspire nautilus. My favorite store bought coil ever. Since I can closely replicate the Nautilus performance in the VapeShell, Ima happy tootle camper :)

Looking for recommendations of good place(s) to get Nautilus coils from. I need both types...the screw in ones and the press together ones/bridges. Any assistance would be appreciated. Running lower than I’d like after a major stock up over a year ago!

I have always ordered my Aspire BVC Coils from here. Aspire BVC Cotton Replacement Coils 5 Pack - 2.1ohm

I know they also have the nautilus coils, also but I have never used or ordered them. I did look for them briefly, and got confused.

I took me a bit to realize that you used to post in the saloon last year, I always enjoyed your posts. I am not sure how long you have had the billet box, if it has been a long time or you just got it, I don't remember. I do remember we missed your posts over there, good to see you posting anyway. It is probably just me being slow to notice.

I don’t know if it’s a CrapaTalk issue, but the pictures in your post are just red X’s...

It is a Tapatalk issue. From what I recall basically anything that is uploaded from a device doesn't show up anymore... Everything looks fine if you view from browser obviously

Cranked it up to 6.4W today as the build settles in. I too was shocked at the low wattage I'm happiest with on this build. For instance @ about the same resistance and using a comfort bridge while running a 1.8 ohm Nautilus coil, I'm happiest with about 7.6W. Both this build or a Nautilus are such a smooth, cool vape. Nice. If your vape is a warm to hot throat hitting lung filling cloud formation vape, this build or a Nautilus may not work for ya ... and that's okay, I guess.

EDIT: And still sliding up this evening as the wire and wick settle in. @ 6.8W and it just keeps getting better. ... and now 7.4W ... seems just about right :)

6.4 W, holy crap! I can't even tell you the last time I've seen a wattage so low.
I'm usually at about 15 Watts with tanks and a 1Ω spaced coil but yesterday I decided to try someone different. Pulled out some 28g (usually using 26) and built work the same wraps and spacing, about 1.8Ω. Also put the biggest mtl insert in vs the smallest of the standard ones. Still at my 15 Watts but trying to see if I get some more life out of this build because my 26g 1Ω I'm replacing coil about every 5 days (about 3ish tank fills) cause it's gunked so fast and dry burning isn't doing well for flavor for a rewick. I'm using pony on acid for liquid, so that may be part of the issue with coil gunning up so quickly.

Initially I tried builds with 24, 28 and 29 kanthal. Worked 'em into 5, 6 and 7 wraps (maybe one or two at 8 wraps) and both open and closed wraps on 2, 2.5 and 3mm core coming in at .4 to 1.8 or so ohms ... and everything between 7.6 and 24 watts. Must have built close to a dozen contenders, maybe more, before settling on the 7 wrap 30 kanthal for tootle splendor. There's a learning curve with the VapeShell as with MOST any new deck, to find your personal sweet spot. Don't give up, I almost did. It's there.

EDIT: Oh and finding the right airflow insert is crucial. The 7 wrap 30 wouldn't have worked for me either if I hadn't gone from the .5 MTL insert to the smallest standard insert (2mm). The variables with the VapeShell, wire, wick and inserts, are almost mind boggling. I'm sure there are other builds I'd be happy with but haven't nailed them ... yet. Just going to enjoy this 7 on 30 for a bit. Nice one :)

I am also using 30 gauge, currently a 8 rap on a 3/32" bit. I am using the largest of the MTL inserts, then using the plastic thingy to fine adjust. Getting it wicked right is a bit tough though, got to have enough so it doesn't flood, but not too much that it blocks the flow. :|

On this STX Doggystyle (good luck finding an original Doggystyle 2K16 by Animodz) ... I have 6 wraps on 3mm and using 24 kanthal. Vaping .65 ohms @ 16.8 watts. Weird thing is that tootle vaping is just as smooth, cool and good as if I were using my 7 on 30 VapeShell build or an off the shelf 1.8ohm Aspire Nautilus coil ... but here's the catch ... ONLY on THIS Pico and ONLY with that narrow bore Molehill Mountain Art tip (tank air is wide open). Yeah I'm picky like that LOL. Life's too short to settle for a bad vape HA. My point? ... just have to find what works.

So after a couple of days wick and wire settling, looks like 7.4W on the VapeShell with 7 wraps of 30 kanthal on 2mm is right in the pocket ... 7.6 from time to time maybe. Still @ 1.89ohms

Anyone else got a smooth low temp quick ramp and cool build for the VapeShell, please share !!! Thanks :)

Quick question. Can stainless steel coils be used with the rev 4 60w boxes?
Out of the box, no for temp control. There's only Ni200 settings.

No present for SS. You'd have to get it connected to escribre to set it up for temp control.

But SS works in wattage too, just not gonna be temp limited.

So it’s unsafe to use ss316 without temp control?
I’m a mtl person,so I wouldn’t be going below 1.0 ohms or above 20 watts
Nah, it's fine to run SS in wattage mode. Way more stable than titanium or ni200 (which both of those should only be used in TC)

My experience with SS is mostly in TC, I gave tried in wattage but personally didn't care for it because it tends to be hotter. Plus you're gonna be dealing with fluctuating resistance, not by much but it's not recommended for chain vaping because of this.

What ya got that you're looking into SS? Or just that your preference? TC that is

Can stainless steel coils be used with the rev 4 60w boxes?
Absolutely it can. It comes with the 3 standard Material types. SS316, Nickel and Titanium. If you go through the different Profiles (wasted) you'll see like No/low/high Preheat and woot. Those are your 4 TC profiles. Go to any of those 4, and change to your SS or whatever.
