When I was a kid, we all rode bikes...everywhere. We went on road, off road, built our own Evil Knievel ramps at the bottom of hills to jump as far as we could, crashed often, went way too fast, didn't pay attention much to traffic signs and many times, put more people on one bike than belonged on one bike. No one wore helmets (except the special kid down the block who always wore a Green Bay Packers helmet in Bears country. No one cared, we accepted him anyways) and, with the exception of someone who knew someone who knew someone who knew someone, no one got a brain injury. Then they came out with bike helmets...for the children. To save them from brain injuries.

Now fewer kids ride bikes. They sit indoors playing Pro BMX on XBOX and have that indoor, sickly look of POW's. We've done an awesome job of protecting the children from sunlight, fresh air and exercise.

Because we need to keep them safe from the evils of E Cigs.
Perspective.
No problem allowing them to purchase extremely explosive liquids, with extremely combustible fumes that cause cancer, and allow them to fill sealed detonation devices every day.
We tax them on purchase of the liquid as well.
Every time they fill their tank at the has pump.
We teach them to do this at 16 and cut them loose on society.

But e cigs ?
Think of the children.

I have a 7 and a 17 year old. I have been vaping for about 2 years. From my perspective, I tell my 17 year old he cannot vape... when he's 18, he can do what he wants, but until then, I cannot condone it. I have thought about what would happen if I did catch him... With illegal substances, he would be seriously punished. With tobacco cigarettes, they're not allowed in the house (they never were, even when I smoked). With vaping, I would take it away, and give it back to him when he does turn 18. As far as my 7 year old goes, I told him that ecigarettes are like a type of medicine that keeps me from smoking. he knows to stay away from them, and not to touch an eliquid bottle if he sees one. All my eliquids have childproof bottles as mandatory. Do I vape with my sons around, Yes and no. I do vape, but I don't vape close to him. In the car, I abstain or lower the wattage way down.

I vape close to a 6mg eliquid... which is low. I usually prefer single coil, .6-1.0 ohms at about 15 watts. It's not a cloud chaser, but it does produce a decent amount of vapor. I rarely see vapor in the air, so I believe their nicotine intake is pretty well close to nil. I never have taken my child into a vape shop and never will. My thoughts are... if you can keep your child away, then by all means do so. If I feel so addicted that I need to vape close to my children like in a car, then it's an addiction that I don't need to have. Whether or not it's safe is irrelevant.

just my :2c:

The wife and I have vaped around our kids at home, in the car, etc. for 5 years now and the kids never cared. They are just happy we quit smoking. The bonus is they never get sick anymore, whereas before we started vaping they were always bringing home some kind of crud every other week from school. IMHO I think it's from the antimicrobial/antiseptic properties of the PG. If it's good enough to put in hospital air fresheners, It's good enough for my house.

Kids don't care, unless someone told them otherwise. I remember the day's when i was a little boy and my mom would sit next to me in the airplane smoking a cigaret. I have no memory that i ever complained to her that a cigarette stinks. I can't even remember thinking that it stinked.. it didn't at the time, it was normal....

This is just like the 'blowing clouds in Walmart' debate.

I personally don't vape around my children, never will. Just like the old analogs.

For the ones who say that "they don't have kids but if they did" that they would vape, wait till you actually have a child and half of ya'll will change your mind.

Smoked around my child; he's now about to celebrate his 27th b-day, so I reckon he survived it. I'd vape around him too, even if he was half his current age.

I think that in a country where genital mutilation of newborns is widely accepted and practiced, at parent's discretion, it looks hypocritical and out of proportions that the government would be interested in overseeing food flavor sticks that adolescents occasionally use at parties.

Amen to that!!! I told those idiots at the hospital that if they got any wild ideas of cutting off a certain part of my son's anatomy, I'd be back to cut off some part of theirs! And also, if they stuck a pacifier in his mouth, I'd be back to stick something in theirs that they definitely wouldn't like! I am TIRED of seeing 3 yr olds with pacifiers!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Intactivism rocks. Great analogy!

Leaving intactivism alone.... the notable fact is that it was decided to be Parent's Discretion not the Government's one. Yet when it comes to strawberry flavor suddenly the Parents can't have any saying. Something's really amiss.
