The Darwin From Evolv!!!

Thanks for the replies. I'll wait til Drew chimes in with any thoughts he may have before I contact evolv. While 16.5 hours is still phenomenal in my book. It concerns me that mine is so much less then everyone else- makes me worry that I might have a battery issue that will haunt me later down the road.

N2, how much juice are you going through in those 16.5 hours? I kind of thought the same thing... my battery won't last more than 15 hours or so (7.5W on 2.7 ohm MAP, never closed.), but I use roughly 8-9mls of juice in that time. My wife, on the other hand, is lucky to go through 3-4mls a day and so the same battery would last her much longer.

never really put much thought into the amount. But a 30ml bottle lasts me about a week. So I guess that would equate to 4-5ml per day

Its really hard to calculate hourly....Liquid is better but even that is slightly subjective, due to resitance settings on cartos and attys...Higher Ohm cartos and attys actually use less power than the LR products, so its kinda confusing. Also it should charge a full 5 hours or more to get the full charge, even though the indicator may say fully charged at 3 to 4 hours I charge mine a minimum of 6 hours just to be safe. It wouldnt hurt to shoot Evolv an email as you would probably end up with a call to discuss it more if you wanted to. Thanks

Thanks Drew... I am using 3ohm cartos, and charging from 10pm til 6:30am (so 8+ hours of charge every night). I'll reach out to evolv next week just to see what they have to say. I'm so happy with my Darwin that I'm afraid they will want me to send it in to them (OH NO's!!!)

N2, definitely sounds like you aren't getting the same amount of battery life. I, like SC, charge every other night and when I place it on the charger it still has about a 1/3 left on the bar. I typically vape it at 7.5-8 watts with a 2.8 MAP.

Maybe contact Evolv and ask them about it, maybe someone else has had a similar issue?

Almost my numbers exactly too. Charge every other night, battery is pretty tapped by then. Charge it for 8 hours. I vape at the center click most of the time, which is exactly 8.5W on mine. I use a 3.2 MAP most of the time, but throw on 306 and 801 LRs drip attys here and there, for a change. I might use a second device at some points, so taking that into account, I estimate I am going a solid 30+ hours on most charges.

I went ahead and emailed evolv. See if they have any thoughts on the matter. Definitely not a deal killer for me as 16 hours is plenty to get me thru a typical day. Just concerned it might become a bigger issue down the road (I hope not)

So a little follow up to this.
this week...

Wednesday night- plugged in overnight.
Thursday- started using at 6:30am with my morning coffee. Used all day at 7W (standard carto, so around 4.7v) and usually forget to turn it off. Plugged back into the charger at 10pm- so 15.5 hours of use. It was plugged into the charger with the Darwin in the off position, no carto on it.
Friday AM- wake up at 6:30am and start vaping... What I didn't know (and soon found out) was: I keep the charger plugged into a power strip. Apparently at some point yesterday one of the cats got under the desk and stepped on the on/off switch of the power strip. So while I thought my Darwin was recharging overnight, it was actually not. At 7:30am, my Darwin gave me the angry battery.

So apparently my Darwin is only capable of 16.5 hours of use. Probably a bit more if used at lower wattage, and maybe a tiny bit more if I religiously turned it off after every vape. But there is no way I'm going to get 24-36 hours out of it like some of you are reporting.

Don't get me wrong- 16.5 hours is still awesome in my book. It just makes me question if my battery is up to par?

Also since I had to drive to work with a dead Darwin, made me realize that I really need a car charger/PT. Where can I get one?

N2rock , I am getting about the same battery life as you or less . Mine will last about 12 to 14 hr on a 6 to 7 hr charge using about 4 to 6 ml of juice . Please let us know what Evolv says .

I picked up a USB car adapter from VapeRite and a mini USB cable from Staples and I'm set for the road. While I'm vaping in the car on my way home I plug it (or my phone - depending on which is deadest) in and continue vaping. Thing is, if I'm on-site I can't vape much so by afternoon my charge still shows as full. When I work from home, with a tank on, for instance, by 5pm I'm down by about a third of a bar. By 8pm or so I'm down to half - that's starting at 7am. I could just be a nut who makes stuff up (let's be honest - I am actually a nut and I guess a lot!) but I think my battery life has gotten better since my first days with the Darwin.

No, you can run any atty you want! Thats the beauty of the Darwin! On regular VV devices it becomes an issue, but the Darwin just calculates what wattage you want and adjusts the voltage accordingly.

Nice to meet you NCVL! It's a unique device. Right now, I'm using an 801LR atty that is reading 1.7 ohms. To get my desired 8.5 Watt vape, It determines it needs 3.8V to give me that power amount. Now if I put my 3.2 ohm map tank on it and still want 8.5watts, The Darwin changes the voltage to 5.2V and then I get the same vape as that 801LR. Just an awesome device. The P is nice but it's just a VV.

Hmm....that is even better news as I have a few 1.8 ohms mini 801s . I do love my 801s but do have some 510 cartos that are real good for driving (yea, I hate to drip and drive!). I also just received some 801 Fusions (cross between an 801 and a 501 carto, long story) that I haven't tried yet, but you just reinforced my decision (although I've gotta admit that I was pretty much there already no matter what!)
