We oughta print some up that read "I read the whole Darwin thread and all I got was this dang T-shirt and a Mazzola soaking". Maybe make a special blue one for ski
Well, I got some "DFD" but had to write many long and detailed posts to get it! But no tee-shirts as of yet (and yes, I have read EVERY post - all 10543 of them). :p

 You referring to Drew's blue Darwin? I meant a blue T-shirt, though I know ski's lusting after a blue Darwin, too (or does he already have one, I can't recall) ;-)

We don't want to go there :p Trust me. I am sure some type of search would pull up the pictures but I am fresh out of drool so I have no desire to see them at the moment

The Proto/Beta Testers all got them. NB, Angus and Muttsrt being the best known. And naturally Drew has one. Then there are a few testers that I just don't know or remember. NB would know,
But let's just say that NB only disperses information on a need to know basis. And obviously...we don't need to know!

Quick question for all you experienced Darwinians:

What is the battery life like for you guys? I had read initially that I should expect 1 - 3 days before needing to charge. I took mine off the charger around noon yesterday and it was discharged again by 11pm. I'm running a 1.5 ohm DC carto tank at 9 watts (3.9 volts, 2.3 amps I think). Is that normal drain? I am a really heavy vaper, but I was expecting a little more than 11hrs per charge.

11 hours using LR gear is certainly within the range of normal. LR, Dual and triple coils all pull very high amps (see your screen). High amps draw is analogous to high RPM in your car = low gas mileage. Using standard or higher Ωs gear uses less amps is more similar to running that same car on flat highway using cruise control = lower RPM and higher gas mileage (longer batt life per charge cycle). I run the 801 cartos (2.7-2.9Ωs) and vape between 8.4 thru 9.5 watts. This usually draws around 1.7 or 1.8 amps. On a super intense vape day, I could run a Darwin to cut-off somewhere between 12-15 hours. If you are using LR gear, your amps draw may be closer to 2.5A.

Of course aggregate button time is also a contributing factor too. But there really is no reason to use LR gear on Darwin. LR gear is designed to simulate/imitate high voltage vaping (which uses standard to higher Ωs) but while using low voltage. Using standard and higher Ωs gear, you can still get the same watts as LR gear but use way less amps and get longer batt life per charge. Another advantage to using standard and higher Ωs gear is that it gives you access to the lower range of the watts scale. Remember, Darwin technology cannot reduce volts below 3.6 volts - it DOES boost but cannot reduce voltage below that threshold. So, if you use a 1.5Ωs atty/carto and Darwin cannot push less than 3.6 volts (same as all others) -> you cannot vape below 8.64 watts (and this uses 2.4 amps = fast batt drain). You can vape ABOVE that number but even if you turn Darwin down below that number - Darwin cannot circumvent Ohms LAW. Meanwhile, using 2.8Ω you can vape that very same 8.64 watts and be using only 1.7 amps (30% less batt usage). But with the 2.8Ωs you CAN turn Darwin down and actually vape the lower watts scale. For example: 2.8Ω at 6 watts would pull 4 volts and use 1.4 amps.

Additionally, I would discourage people for relying on those 2 and 3 days of batt life posts. It all depends on many variables - mostly amps draw and aggregate button time. But more importantly, as has ben posted, running Darwin batts to cut-off on a regular basis can have negative impact on your batt life per charge cycle. it is much better to charge these batts before the device runs down to cut-off. I charge mine each and every night while I sleep.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I guess the 3 days drain time was just a misconception.

For me, the most important feature of a mod is to last me from the time I wake up until I go to bed. Anything beyond that is fluff because it'll be on the charger overnight regardless. It's disappointing that the Darwin cant keep up with my vaping style, but not altogether surprising.

I wish i could find higher resistance short steel cartos that are dual coil. I just really like the flavor and longevity I get from DCs better than single coils. I may give the singles another try with the Darwin, though.

Anyway, at least now I know. Thanks again!

jmlott - like NB I run mostly 2.7ohm 801 cartos on my Darwins. If I used one Darwin I can drain it in about 14 hours. Keep in mind though that my day includes MANY button presses and about 8-10mls of liquid. So the average vaper should easily get a full day using standard resistance atty's/cartos. Happy vapes

So umm, wherever the "please let me test stuff" list is at, I would really like to be on it ;) Or just let me know what needs to be contributed  Just kidding, I know it's a pipe dream

Yeah, it really is subjective based on what you're using and how much you vape. I can get 2 full days if I'm using CE2's only (about 2.8 ohm and running at 5-6 watts, 4-5ml of juice per day), but only one full day with 1.5 dual coils (I run those around 10 watts). I'm perfectly fine with one day, myself, since I just charge it overnight ;-)

You can get higher ohm dual coils, Drew stocks them up to 2.5 ohms, but they will only increase your run time by a moderate amount (maybe 20-25%) since you'll likely still be running them at high watts

I run 1.7 ohm dual coils at 8.5-10 watts and get at the least one full day. Lasted 3 days when I was sick this past weekend ;P wasn't vaping as much as usual tho. I try not to run the battery level too low though - its usually on charge overnight every other day and plugged into work van if I notice it low.

Well, can't think of a better place to make my post # 666

I just ordered one of those new dual coil attys to check out. I honestly don't know what to expect from it, but I guess I'll find out soon enough ;)

Gotta hold off on ordering any more new toys now, though. I'll be heading down to NC on Monday and I'd hate the thought of some lonely unopened package waiting around for me all week while I'm gone
