Figured I'd share - my Darwin and his little brother waiting for the Kick to come out!

mmm Habanero chili :)

It's interesting the way that atties and dual coils respond to the settings. Dual coils need it there for me, but an atty loves it lower.

Looking forward to throwing more at it! Making orders already

I said this incorectly so I looked it up and I believe this is the answer.

This is not my post below. I copied it from someone else.

Some people like dual coils but the technology of Darwin limits them somewhat. While dual coils are rated at lower Ωs, they are really 2 higher Ωs coils wired in parallel. They really shine on unregulated 6V. Darwin will read them at the same Ωs as a multimeter and has no way on knowing they are dual coils. So Darwin provides Regulated Power based on the Ωs reading. if you turn the watts way up, you get some power but most people that I know who like them (and have Darwins) usually use the DCs on unregulated 6V devices 9with 2x3v batts).

I could be wrong but I believe the Darwin reads dual coils incorrectly. The Darwin auto detects the Ohm rating and instead of reading 2 1.5ohm coils it reads it reads 1 3ohm coil.

Because of this you really have to turn the Watts up higher to get the same effect.

Can anyone else chime in on this?

I haven't noticed this, but I'll try it out later! Last time I looked I believe it was reading a 1.5 ohm dual coil at 1.6 and when I out it up to 12.7 watts it was putting about 4 to 4.4 volts into it. It was a similar vape to putting it on my provari and setting it to 4.2v

Darwin reads them correctly.
The watts you set is what you get.

The thing is, you're spreading that wattage out over twice as much coil wired in parallel.
It's about surface area and extra lung hit at lower actual coil temperatures.

People who like the extra lung hit of more coil, AND like a warmer vape often drive them at a around 15ish watts (that's really more like 7ish watts per coil).

Just a little chime in, to add to Credo's:
Dual coils are a different animal. If I am correct, a DC which reads 1.5Ω is actually two 3Ωs coils wired in parallel (not two 1.5Ωs reading as 1.3) so they read on multimeters (and Darwins and kicks) as 1.5Ωs. Darwin (and Kick) provides power accordingly. As Credo says - this power is getting split between the two 3Ωs coils so it is experienced as a cooler vape. I have put 1.5Ωs DCs on unregulated 6V devices and enjoyed a very nice vape. Even that is less than these coils can handle because the AW LifePO4 batts stacked for 6V have a lower max amps push and cannot really push 6V under-load.

BTW heli - that second post looks familiar. :p

My Darwin is sick :( It's one of the originals, an OG Darwin. I suppose its finally showing its age... I contacted Evolve, and within 24 hours there was an email back asking me to mail him away, and they will fix him.

It still... works... sort of... with a randomly functioning LCD and I'm stuck at either 4-5 watts or 11-12 watts. I mean to mail him off today, but my backup is a single riva battery. It will be hard to let him go, even though I'll be without a Darwin for what, maybe a week? We have such history, my Darwin and I, I feel like I'm sending my child off to school for the first time. But for a WEEK. I don't want to let him go!

I'm really, really happy about the 2 year warranty and Evolv's customer service so far. I really can't wait for the Kick to be released. I decided that I'm going to get the Kick and a madvapes Maxi Roughstack for my 'out-and-about' vape, and keep my Darwin for home use.

Once you go variable wattage, its so flippin' hard to go back. Gonna be a long week or so...
