The prices in the classies isn't inflated, its Evolv and Nhaler who have a price that is more than fair when you consider that you can get $300 for a used Darwin, imagine the price point they could set for an unused Darwin.....

Thanks for the well wishes guys, Brandon promised me I'd have it back by the time I go to Hawaii.

jkmtwo, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that. Any time a person asks more that they paid simply because the supply can't keep up with the demand IMO, they are gouging people. Not saying that the Darwin isn't worth it but I will do without before I pay an inflated price or a higher price than the vendor is selling them for. I see this happen all the time with many popular APV's and tanks. Just my opinion.

In some ways it is reasonable to inflate the price, especially if it's brand new or in like new conditions. For used out of warranty Darwin's, I don't feel it's a great idea to try to inflate it. Also, if the price was high enough to provide more production in the future, I'm definitely going to support that. Not so much for an out of warranty pv. That's just my personal view on it. Not saying the Darwin's aren't worth it, I'd just rather support the company than someone who got their money's worth and doesn't need it anymore.

Yes some people in the classy's do try to get way more than original price on some APV's and tanks. I wonder if these are the same type of people that wait in line for the latest and greatest gaming system, must have Christmas toy, etc and then run home and post it for sale at $200 - $300 over retail??? Now on the classy's I can understand someone factoring in the cost of shipping on their original order and tax if they paid it but to ask for more than 10% over original cost on a unit is gouging. The problem is that there are people who will pay it.

Anybody ever heard of baseball cards? You could have purchased a Hounus Wagner card in like 1900 for a fraction of a penny, Wayne Gretzky bought one like a decade ago, for like $100,000. Who buys a house and expects to sell it for less than they paid?

Also, the classies would not constitute price gouging, price gouging is what goes on at your local mall at an ecig kiosk, here people buy crap from a vendor at an outrageous price, and they can do this because of the ignorance of the consumer and the fact that their competition is at best at a minimum.

What happens in the classies, is an individual buys a product, a rare product, and sells it for more than he paid, often times selling it with in moments because 1. The market dictates that this is a fair price, and 2. An educated buyer knows the device he or she is buying.

Vendors, manufacturers may disagree, they may not like it, but they are the ones, the only ones who can end it, make more of your product. Evolv has been churning out the kicks over the past couple of months, what happened? A couple of months ago, if you put a Kick up for $75 it was gone in minutes, now, it will sit there for days.

Yeah, I agree. But I also do understand there are a lot of people and parts in putting together a quality device. If it was one person pumping these devices out, I would agree that it's overpriced, but it's a company with many people who need to get paid for their contributions. So the price for Darwin's are justified. I'd understand if the Darwin's costed twice as much and in turn kept production pumping devices out faster, but the downside to that would be not very many people could afford that. I just wish I had one already.

If an item was an out of production, never to be made again item, it very well could be considered a collectors item and could be worth more than the original selling price. I do agree that if supply could keep up with demand this topic wouldn't even exist. I know of sereral suppliers that are watching this and will never sell to the people that are doing it again.

And for the record, this was never directed towards Evolv or NHaler. I think their prices are fair and would do business with either in a heartbeat.

Yeah same here, I was just venting about the some of the classified's Darwin's. I'd pay double for a Darwin if that would help production, but last I heard, the hold up was from parts in China. If an increase in price would help get that stuff produced in US to help reduce downtime, I'm all for it. Yeah... I'm that desperate! lol!

You are correct, I know Jonboy has said that he won't be selling to anyone who has done this, as is his right to do so, btw, he is also working to make sure that there are more of his tanks in circulation. But, coming from the other end, as someone who has never engaged in this sort of thing, but has bought stuff at above retail, I can see why someone would do it, to be fair, I think the market is about $300 for a Darwin on the classys. I don't see that as an outrageous price, the ones I find annoying are the guys who slap a $400 price tag on their Darwin but mask it as "I'd rather trade", when there is an option to trade only. Especially when you know they just bought it a week ago from another member for $300.

this has definitely happened twice in just the last couple of weeks! saw the aforementioned 'trader' just buy for like 320 and slap a 500 price tag on there! so ridiculous; but it seems like the classified regulars are pretty hip to this shadiness...

and i do agree with a lot of the folks on this thread--ultimately, as an informed consumer, it is the buyer's choice to either pay or not pay the seller's asking price.

I don't see why it matters personally. If I wanted to sell my Darwin for X amount of dollars and someone is willing to buy it at X amount of dollars, where is the harm in that? Yes they are in production, but they aren't able to keep up with the demand. Whether it's considered gouging or not, that's between the buyer and seller. But that's just me.

In the classies, the rules seem to indicate that you must put a price on something, whether it's only for trade or not. Putting a high price tag on it is going to help weed out all of the people wanting to buy it. Could you imagine how many PM's you'd get if you put a Darwin up for retail price and were wanting to trade for a genesis mod? lol

It's supply and demand. Darwins have proven themselves to be excellent devices, and their scarcity drives up the price to those willing to pay it. It makes me sad however, that people perhaps want one for a rare status symbol? Just use them, that's what they are best at.

In very general terms, usually a piece of used equipment is worth about half the price of a new, assuming constant supply. If it later is unavailable, and time has proven it to be outstanding, the sky is the limit, or whatever the purchaser is willing to pay. Darwin is a little young to be considered a classic, but whether it's cars or guitars, a classic is something that defined things that came after it. A 1959 Les Paul guitar is considered one of the best of the best. 30 years ago, they were still "good guitars", but you could buy them for cheap. Now they are only owned by rock stars and collectors. There are plenty of guitars that are as good or better, but the '59 made a name for it.

Darwin *is* being a game-changer in vaping. Someday an early signature Darwin may be quite valuable. In the meantime, they are just hard to get right now. I hope the drought is over soon!

My cousin's dad had an original gold top les paul but sold it due to the paint cracking, which from what I understand happened to all of them eventually. I think that was a few years before 59, but they sure are valuable now. But about the Darwin thing. If someone were to offer me $400 dollars cash right now for my Darwin, I'd decline. It's just more valuable to me than that. It will take lots of money to get me to sell something that I love and want to keep. lol

I'd pay $300-$350 for one with a warranty, but not one out of warranty just because if it craps out, you're s.o.l. I was close to buying one, but the custom powder coat wasn't my favorite color. While I was thinking about it, someone here mentioned there would be some coming "in a week or so," so I decided to wait.

That being the case, I'm tempted to get 2, so if I go camping or something I'd have an extra one to use.

This is a valid point. Darwins have been in production for close to 19 months now. When buying from C'fieds it makes sense to verify the original purchase date as a means of determining how long is left on the 2 yr warranty and 1 yr on the batts. If the seller cannot verify the original purchaser and purchase date - good idea to pass on it. Also, a custom powder coated is out of warranty because it was opened. Remember, opening Darwins voids the warranty. sorry, didn't mean to be a Darwin Downer!!

Happy 4th Darwinia!

I damn near bought that one.

And no, you do not have to put a price if you only want to trade, I traded a Lavatank a week or so ago and didn't put a price, I even said anyone offering to buy would be ignored, period. If someone has close to 60 feedbacks on the classies, they should no that. When you do your ad, all you have to do is when the drop down menu says "for sale" "for trade" or "for sale or trade", all they have to do is click "for trade", and you don't have to put a price. Putting "for sale or trade" and then slapping a $500 or $400 price tag on there is spineless in my opinion.

I don't even have a problem if they want to get that, its cool, just for gods sake have the stones and be real about it.
