I notice the inside of the base on the long wicked ones at smoktek appear a bit different from that on the NW Vapors short wicked ones. Does someone have a clue on what might be different there?

Are you refer to Vision 808-eGo/vGo Transparent Clearomizer V2, 2.1-2.4 Ohm vs. CE4 Clear Cartomizer (Clearomizer) for Echo / 808D / 901 - $6.50 ?

The long wicks is for 808 eGo (the 808 fat batt with eGo outer thread - it won't fit Echo, Echo has a flat thread so this Vision 808 Echo Transparent Clearomizer, 2.5 Ohm is the one for Echo).

If you can see the base inside the clearos from the side (the base is pushed up because it need to accommodate the outer thread), it has eGo thread.

I think the long wicked ones are called ce4+. I think they were made for better wicking but I don't have any so I don't know if they are better or worse. I haven't had any wicking problems to speak of with the short wicks.

They are easy to rewick. By easy I mean on paper. It's a little figgity getting the tails tucked inside but practice makes perfect. The ones I rewicked with longer wicks, wicked too much and caused popping, guirgling and dripping down the center post. But since these have gotten better, I have not tried. There is a reason they chose shorter wicks but that shouldn't stop you from experimenting.

Only difference in taking the echo versions apart from how it's described in the video is the echo base comes off as one unit. Put it on a battery and grip as close to the metal base of the clearo as possible. Grab the shell and start wiggling.
The plastic shell is inserted into the metal base.

Those are long wicks for 808 cone threaded batteries like the Vgo and made by Vision. The other ones are made for the echos with a flat base and are brought to us from Hangsen.
This is what you wanted for you vertical mod though, right?

I think these answer my question. ...and yes on the flat base. Where's a good source for Kanthal, 34 ga., I think...3 feet plus..?

I'm still using Nichrome cause I ordered a ton of it. Boiled well, i really don't get a lot of the taste others report. The only problem is there's a bit of a jump between 32-36. 32 is low....34 makes a nice 2.0 but 36 goes straight to 3.0 unless you make a small single wick coil. Fine for echomizers but I like to double wick for everything else.

kenthol is like a step lower or higher in resistance so I've been meaning to look myself so I can get a nice 5-6 coil that's 2.5ohm. I think there are a lot of good sources on the Stardust rebuild thread. Right in the first dozen or so pages.

No echos yet with long wicks out of the box. I imagine they'll come eventually. I'm a horizontal vaper anyway. Unless I'm flat on my back looking up at the stars. Then I'm horizontal and my PV is upside down.......
But I might buy some if they came along with long wicks cause I'm cheap and would gladly rob wicks from one thing to use in another.

They are echo base but they aren't the same. Last I had, they were on par with the ce4s of a few months ago. I have a few and use them but I prefer the 2.5ohm with the whistle tip. She is a registered supplier. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/e-cigarette-suppliers-forum/270388-thevaporgirl-com-has-arrived-we-brought-free-shipping.html
Her's was the echo battery I tested. It was glitchy at first but fixed itself after a few chargings. It has a 10 second cutoff vs the stealths everyone else has that have 7 sec.

Looks like an 808 threaded chrome echo auto, it will work with 808 accessories and the carto pictured is either an echo single coil or dual coil carto, which are available at various online suppliers like: Cropduster901 eCigs, Vaporizers and Supplies , Mountain Vapor - High quality e-cigarettes, liquids and accessories. and The Vapor Girl: the very best vaping solutions known to man! (only dual coil there i think).

There are also clearomizers available like the iturbo at thevaporgirl.com the main thing is the threading on the echo is 808. Also, be very careful not to get juice in the hole on the center post.

Thank you so much! I will follow your links and add them to my favorites. I tried to research on my own, last night, and saw an echo 808 and thought it was one but this confirms it. I have been careful about getting juice in the hole on the center post, when filling, and have been impressed by the amount of e-liquid these cartos hold. It is automatic which is in stark contrast to my Riva 510 SE; I can now understand why some prefer an auto and mine works great.

Welcome!

You had the great Echo, is the LED red?
Other Echo suppliers are Welcome to SmokTek, LLC - The Better Smoking Alternative - Your source for personal vaporizers, e-cig supplies and e-liquids and North West Vapors. Electronic Cigarettes - just look under Echo cartos/clearos. Of course the standard 808 cartos/clearos will work too.

Echo carto (some called it Echomizer) is great, just make sure you don't under-filled it, 3ml is enough (use syringe if you want exact measurement, it's PITA to drop so many liquid into one).

Other than that... enjoy your Echo, hope you'll love it :)

One of my batteries I think is a 650 mah has a blue light and the other, longer battery, (a 900 mah?) has a red light. Please see my response to StartEndLife for more info. I am enjoying my Echo 808 Chrome Auto....and now I have several links to follow to see where I can but proper hardware for it. Thank you very much!
