I know cigarettes are bad for books and paper. That's basic. But, I've never seen anyone discuss the longterm effects of vaping in the vicinity of books.

For instance, I am a comic book collector. I have a very large collection of books, all bagged and boarded. However, cigarette smoke has a habit of somehow MAGICALLY getting through all that and damaging books if you smoke. However, I was just sitting here all gloved up rereading some old greats and wanted a vape. I can't help but wonder the effects of PG and vapor on comic books/books/paper in general. Does anyone know?

*Side note: Anyone ever tried using a saber touch (touch sensitive button) with gloves on? LOL. I have been licking my wrist and using it instead*

well from what i've read on the chemical composure of the vapor emitted from a pv is that it's about 98% water. the vapor does dissipate rather quickly, and if you are keeping your library sealed i wouldn't imagine that you're exposing your comic books to much. i'm inclined to believe that the vapor emitted from an average pv doesn't have much potential to alter the entire climate of whichever room you're in by a significant degree.
i don't know a lot about conservation of paper, but there are a few basic conditions that help preserve paper. a quick google search provided this page:
Preserving Works on Paper: Manuscripts, Drawings, Prints, Posters, Maps, Documents - Collections Care (Preservation, Library of Congress)
i know it's not specifically adressing the effects of chronic vapor exposure to your collection, but it at least provides an ideal standard and allows you to decide if your vaping habit significantly alters these conditions.
i love comic books a bunch as well, but i would vape while reading them. i mean, you're already handling them. i just wouldn't directly exhale into the book.

I'll check the link. I don't handle any of my books without gloves (at this point, it's not for their protection but because it adds to the hobby. Almost like refilling a carto or something is almost enjoyable.), and I have many books in a glass case which is pretty much airtight, so I'm sure they'll be fine. It's the masses of other books which have nothing but a bag and board to protect them.

When I do read my comics I like to take them to the couch and read, and that's where the vape comes in.

i was about to comment on the gloves thing. they kind of strike me as odd because i've entered environment controlled areas to handle books that were centuries old and we've never had to use gloves. we did have to wash our hands and be careful not to touch other things as much as possible though.
like i said those other books are still exposed to their surrounding environment and i would worry about dust and such much more than i would vapor. especially if you read them on the couch without a book stand etc. :p
do you live in an apartment? depending on the size and set up of your home there are other activities that definitely will affect the preservation of your library such as cooking, bathing, etc.

The gloves is just purely a thing that started when I was young. Became a bit of a tradition. Now, the comics don't feel right in the hand without them LOL.

We live in a decent sized home. I picked a room far away from the rest of the house for the comics, as that room will see the least of.. Well, everything. I guess when it comes down to it, I just wanted to make sure that the vapor doesn't wreck the good books =)
